  1. I like Shoprat, am working with a family in need through my Sunday school class. We helped them last Christmas and we're helping again this year. Two under 10 children being taken care of by grandparents that can't make ends meet. Mom and Dad are out of the picture. One is a drug addict, the other in prison. Grandma was diagnosed with cancer about a month and half ago. She passed away two weeks ago. We provided Thanksgiving dinner for them and we're planning the same for Christmas along with some presents for the kids and aid for the grandfather. I'm not knocking Hulon for sending the letters. Like I said before, it was a thoughtful gesture. What would have been nicer would have been a personal thank you from each of the regions, were have judged throughout the year. Again, it’s expensive to mail all of them for all the meets. But there's another way. As a car owner, you typically drive on the show field, get your dash plaque, and the region member thanks you for bringing out your car to the meet. That's personal contact from a region member to participant. Currently, as a judge you and the other 100++ judges, get thanked at the Judge's Breakfast. Rather impersonal in comparison. As a judge, this year we had team captain evaluation forms. Near Judge's Admin, station a region member with the box to collect them from the TEAM MEMBERS not the team captain (as a team captain one might be tempted to peek at them and not turn in the bad comments on themselves). As they turn in the sheets, thank them for helping with judging that day. You could station someone else along the line for Judge's Admin to take care of the team captains.
  2. I think mine is going to happen this weekend. I have a 2001 Impala that won't release the brakes so you can drive it. Was barely able to get from my parents house to mine (7 blocks). The anti-lock brakes apply for no reason and the traction control has the brakes applied full time. Talked with some mechanic friends and I need to chase the wiring harnesses and find where it is rubbed through and repair the wires. Hate computers on cars!!! Mom's car ('66 Coronet)will be easier to fix. Find brake fluid, fix leak, blead and brakes should now work.
  3. I got mine yesterday as I was out of town for Thanksgiving. I thought it was a nice gesture but like shoprat, thought the money for postage could have been used in a better way. Wen you figure all the judges that judged this year time the postage, is a rather large chunk of change. Again, it was a nice gesture and was appericated.
  4. I have a manufacturer and an apparent part number for it, but have not been able to identify the year or the potential cars this mirror was made to fit on. Auto-Lite 2701 is stamped on the bottom side of the mount. Any idea what it may fit?
  5. .49 x 7= $3.83 x 65 issues $248.95 Plus 1pg B&W on top of that (figuring .08 x 65 = 5.20) Total 254.15 monthly $3,049.80 yearly I print and mail first class the newsletter monthly,for less than 1,000 per year. Can't recall the exact figure of the top of my head.
  6. How much of your newsletter is colored? That will make a big difference in your cost.
  7. Happy turkey day. I actually got to see some rain this morning. I had fortten what it looked like.

  9. I'm using a HP K550 with 4 cartidges. Haven't had any problems with it. You can buy a duplexer (think that's what it called to print both sides at one shot. I don't have it) The print was about $180 and the other piece runs about the same. Taking out the time to allow the ink to fully dry before printing the second side (if you don't it'll try picking up two sheets ata time), I can print 60-65 copies of our newsletter in a quite reasonable about of time. If remember correctly, all text page runs in about 10 minutes, colored, with photos takes about 30 minutes. I can time them again in about two weeks when I run the issue. As for the ink, The cartridges you have to watch prices. There are the regular size and the XL. I was at office depot and found I could buy 2 reg cheaper than the XL and got an extra ml to boot. With the XL cartridges, print 60-65 issues, (4 8.5x11 pages both sides) I use about 4 to 5 a year. I seem to be harder on of coruse black and cyan and esiest on the magenta.
  10. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I interpret this rule as having been written specifically to penalize license plate frames and logos advertising dealerships. Where would this rule apply otherwise? </div></div> Like on my Chevy II before I had it HPOF. It had a U.S. Coast Guard Aux. License plate frame and a plate that said "MY TOY".
  11. You must have been listeing to WAKG this morning.
  12. I don't believe he is looking at reusing it in the bus as much as how to seperate the water and oil to dispose of the oil. Ivan, you and I both know that they boil the water off th oil when recycling it, but the problem is the parts sotres that you drop your oil off at ain't got a clue as to how it is done and another possiblity is if they are paying per gallon to dispose of it. I'm not usre how that part is handled. It is a requirement if you sell oil that you have a recycling facility and if they have to pay, they don't want to pay to dispose of water.
  13. I'm in like Flynn.. whoever Flynn is. I didn't bother you last night because I wasn't sure if it was me (and/or the new computer) or something else. I use 2 computers (with 1 external hard drive) to do the websistes and figured this evening I'd plug the harddrive into my laptop and try it before calling you.
  14. don't forget there is more than just Hershey. Off the top of my head there is a National Meet in MD I believe in May '08. I can't remember any others without looking at my calendar at home, which unfortunately I'm not. Got to do that work thing.
  15. Good!!! I wasn't going nuts last night. I was having the same problem. Had some other things to do and was planning on calling Peter if still had the same problem tonight. I figured it must be on that end as I couldn't do anything with the NC Region or ALamance Region's sites.
  16. Dodge was still on bais in '73. Mom's Dart had them. '76 Aspen had radials.
  17. Without consulting the judging manual, I'm not saying yea or nay on the starter being acceptable. But the idea of it being accepted would be to get the 80+ year guy with his 1909 Whatever that he can no longer hand crank to start, to bring his car out to the show. I tried cranking one restored car at age 16 and could barely turn it over.
  18. Hey, in this hobby with the cost of parts, supplies and fuel, we all must have a few loose. I just figured yours fell out.
  19. No better offer. Just sore legs & taking care of my spaces. We were having fridge problems all week. I go Sat. to get a new unit installed.
  20. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">No, no. Honest Mr. Burgess, sir, I meant junk like nails and screws. Not your fine automobiles. </div></div> Shop Rat, you better collect all those loose screws you find on the roads, they probably belong to Wayne.
  21. I didn't understand it to be the bracket holding the tag onto the car. I was thinking a frame like from the dealer which I've also heard called a bracket. Sorry I misunderstood. Yes, MCHinson is right that it should be a common sense thing and not a deduction.
  22. you didn't really shake me, I was trying to point out why it isn't a good policy/procedure, etc. Sometimes I think about the things behind in this case, why you "don't revisit a vehicle that has already been judged". I'm learned to look at things from a completely opposite view when debating an issue. Like with the ten point rule deal. Everyone usually complains about the "competition". The points system works no different than when you were in grade school and the teacher used a curve to grade. If you had a smart one in the class you knew you were screwed because he/she would get a 100 (400 points)and you wouldn't. But, if you didn't have that person and the top score for the class was a 90 then the teacher marked it as a 100 and everyone within ten points (80 actual score) also got an A on the test. Then the next ten and next ten. In the AACA points system, the same thing is happening with the exception of those getting 2nd or 3rd Jr as the school teacher normal didn't use the top scoring B grade and move everyone else's score up and then take the ten points for the B, and the smae for the C. I don't understand why nobady can seem to understand it is basicly the same as what was done in school. You took the test, got a score, and the "cookies" fell where they did. You didn't "compete" against your schoolmates. Same for AACA, you get a score based on 400 as the 100, and the cookies fall were the do.
  23. Are you sure you don't ned to go back to the guy with 359 and let him defend his deductions too? A) If there were enough points that he (even the 369 car)could defend and bring the score high enough to make the the 1st place, you would be talking about issues of something being either right or wrong. If that was the case, the judge taking the points should have been asking the team captain to ask the owner for documention or have given the owner the benefit of the doubt and already not taken a deduction. Therefore most of those points were for either something known to be incorrect or condition. Maybe you need to go back and let the 380 cars defend thier deduction too. Maybe one of them should have been a 390 car. Now, you've judged that class twice, and if you're at Hershey or one of larger shows, you're now getting done in the middle of the afternoon. C) The onwer might forget his firearm saftey training. D) Why not simply give anyone who brings thier car a 1st Jr then you don't need to worry about the score, and everyone will feel all warm and fuzzy when they go home. Affter all, isn't that what we all want, everyone to be happy. E) Forgot, the guy with the 400 point restoration is now POed because my P.O.S. that would score 360 or lower just got the same award as him and I didn't out any effort/$$ into my car. But that doesn't matter, as long as I'm happy becasue I got my 1st Jr.
  24. still like my HP K550. no issues with it.
  25. If it is a FACTORY authorized (from Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.) lic. plate frame, then there is no deduction for authenticity, only condition if it is in bad shape. I was presuming Anderson's frame was aftermarket and probably should have made sure. I would make a copy of the factory lititure showing that frame to be available from Ford and make sure I had it with me at the meet. When the team captain introduces himself (as he is suppose to do) mention that you have factory documention with you for it (should really have it for all accessories to be safe) if there are any questions on authenititcy.
