  1. Thriller -Thanks. I will try and see if the guy has a registration with him that he could give me the number. I guess you can tell I don't know much! He told me it was a LeSabre. Is this the same thing as a LeSabre? Thanks for the help. Doug
  2. I also need help on the serial number - I put a thread in the BCA General section - just in case someone can help out with this. Thanks!
  3. I printed out a list of the serial numbers that a memeber put on here for this car but I can not figure what type of 455 the car has in it. It is a convertible also ( black with black top. It does have a dual exhaust too. I am wondering if this is the right year?? The tag has the following - ST74 4BP67 Y 047233BDY TR 437 AM6 19 BPNT 09C 0527 C60 879 I hope someone can help me out!
  4. Just wanted to say a big thanks to PJHeizmann for looking at the 74 Buick LeSabre convertible for me. I don't think I will buy it, unless I can get the gentleman down on price ( we will see). I am thinking maybe he was wrong about the year??? PJH - When I went to leave he said he was going back in to try the keys again and all the other keys he had in his pocket - I will give him a lot of credit - he does not give up! Thanks again, Doug
  5. PJH, THANKS!!! PM sent. Doug
  6. I have a chance to buy a 1974 Buick Lesabre convertible but I need someone to look the car over, so I don't buy something that is junk. I just wanted to ask if anyone in or around York, PA would help me out? I know it is a lot to ask, since I am not here here at all but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. I would like to get it out of the guys garage in the next week or two to look it over ( which would be on a weekend) If someone is knowledgeable about this type of car and would like to help me out, I will pay them for their time. Thanks, Doug Lwiker@aol.com
  7. Okay, I talked him down on the price of the car but I really need an expert to check the car out for me. Would there be anyone near York, PA that would go and check the car out with me and see if it is worth buying? I think it is but checking the major things out, I am not comfortable doing. Hope someone that knows about these cars and what all to look for will help me out, since I do not won't to buy something that needs tons of work done to it. Thanks for any help, Doug York, PA If anyone can do this, please email me at Lwiker@aol.com
  8. 74455 - Wow thanks for all the information! I have to ask if the different kinds that you listed made a lot different horsepower? I will be checking the VIN number out - thank you very much for that! Did you do work on yours or was it in very good shape when you bought it? Thanks again!!
  9. thriller - Your information was very helpful! I just want to thank everyone again for the replies - being a newbie with the car thing, I need as much help as I can! I am still not sure about the car but will have a good friend of mine go with me and check things out since he has been a mechanic/race car builder and I am sure he knows what to look for and check. Thanks again!
  10. Thanks for the few replies! John - Sorry about the model - yes it is the Le Sabre model in black Thriller - thanks for your opinon also! The car is very complete and no rust that I saw. I noticed that inside it needs carpet and the glove compartment door needed fixed. Other then that the inside looked very good. I tried to take pictures but where it is stored it is very dark, so they did not come out. I guess th emain concern I have is how do you check a car motor out if it has not been ran in a very long time? I kow with the vintage snowmobiles I got, I just sprayed gas in the carb and made sure they fired and also did a compression check. The guy sai dhim and his wife parked it in the old garage when they picked it up, then she got sick and pasted away and he never drove it since. I figured that a old car that needed fixed up alot was not for me and this car seems to have everything and it all looks good ( but not perfect). Would $2000 be to high for a car like this? Thanks
  11. I think I found out a few things about this car - just need to know if I am right about them. It isn't very collectible - the 455 motor has a lot less horsepower then the years before this. I just thought since I could get it cheap that it would be a good starter car. Plus I know the car will not be in the shape it is in now from where the guy has it parked. I just hate to see things go to crap if it can be saved! Thanks.
  12. I need some opinions again! I have been looking for an older car but this newer one came up. It is a 1974 Buick convertible in decent shape - it will need some cleaning and it has been sitting a pretty long time - all in all it is in great shape and would not need a lot of work. It has a 455 in it - it would need new carpet. paint is not perfect but isn't bad ( for me). I just am asking for opinions on this car since I have no clue of a value. I know it is a hard question to answer since there are so many variables to a value but I just wanted to get an idea. I hope people give me some opinions. Thanks!!
  13. Steve, Thanks for the reply. I know being a new guy and not having a antique car ( yet) a lot of people will not want to reply and I appreciate yours! The fellow knows all the parts he has, so he said he would go through, part for part and we would put on them what they are. I think I can get everything at a very GOOD deal but I have no clue what any part would even be worth. The guy does not have a computer and he is a very elder gentleman, so he said he would have no idea on what the parts would even sell for. I just don't have an idea what anything is worth! He said one item was very rare or hard to get but sometimes he is very hard to understand - he said it is a part to check front ends of a specific car - it sounded like ( don't laugh) jack strip, jock ship or something? Thanks again for the reply and I guess I will just have to do a lot of searching on the parts and hopefully come up with an offer for them. Doug
  14. I am a new guy but joined the forum awhile ago when I had a chance to get a 54 2dr, Customline Ford. With the questions I had, the members did help me to relize it would be better to find a car that runs and wouldn't take a lot to fix it. I am still looking for one but I am in no hurry. I looked at a car the other week and the guy knows that I love to sell things through by the computer. He has some parts I would like to try and sell but I have NO idea if there is a market for anything. I can get the parts at a good price in my mind with the little studying I have done. I hope someone might be able to give me advice on the parts!! The parts are all pre-war - tail lights, radios, fan belts - brake lines ( which I know are hard to match up unlsee someone has an original) flat head parts for Fords, flat head for Cadillac, 38 Chevy 3 speed transmission with reverse and A LOT of other odds and ends. Please give me some advice. I would love to get these parts and help people out with them. I DO NOT look to get rich on anything but would hate to see these parts get thrown away!! Thanks again, Doug
  15. Doug and JMAV, Thanks for the replies. I just had no clue where to turn and ask questions since I know noone who restores cars around here. I know there probably are people but noone I kow. Thanks again, Doug I am thinking it would be to big of a project for the first timer!! I just felt it would be a cheap car to buy and I could at least try things to it and if it didn't come out, I wouldn't be out that much money on the purchase price.
