  1. I just found one of those latchs in my spares. Would not have known what it was for without Dicks photos. Let me know if you need it. rex@studebakerclassics.com
  2. Yellow pine with rubber mat. per prints from museum.
  3. I'm a stones throw from Mishawaka. Just there this morning. The hubcaps are available new from John McCall. The trim rings can be had at many sources. That floor shifter boot is made by Shrock brothers. Contact me for help. rex@studebakerclassics.com
  4. What parts are you looking for? Where are you located. I'm just finishing up my 35 and in the process learned who the 35 guys are in the club and parts sources.
  5. Getting close to getting this car back on the road. I need a carburetor from a 35 commander or president. It is a EE1 stromburg. I have one from a ford on it now to get it running but the linkage is wrong. Also need a speedometer pinion. Studebaker number 185326 or Stewart warner number 78472. It is 18 teeth for a 5:09 rear end. Thanks for any help or leads. Rex@studebakerclassics.com
  6. I seen a set at the South Bend swap meet.
  7. You can get the pistons from Arias. http://www.ariaspistons.com/ and cam bearings are available. Gasket sets from Olsens. Original valves can be found or from egge. The main and rod bearings are the tough items. Don't worry about the long crank. These were and are good motors. The grapetone maroon is one of the most beautiful colors stude ever used. You will like it. Keep us posted on the progress.
  8. Dick, don't tell anyone where that's at. I'm hoping to get lucky some day.
  9. As a reference on the rarity of 1932 presidents. We in the club have been keeping records of early presidents for 35 to 40 years. There are 9 roadsters, 3 coupes, 2 convertible sedans, 3 saint regis broughams, and less than a dozen sedans. Hopefully this one can be saved or help keep the others on the road.
  10. I sold a nice rust free 32 sedan body to Gurney Yoakley when I parted one out. That could sit right on this chassis.
  11. Studebaker also had a 9 main bearing 8 starting in 1929.
  12. Dale, per our phone conversation last night, I did find the paint chips for granite gray. Studebaker also used that color in 31 and 32. I scanned them and attached. That gray is more of a brown if you ask me. I hope the scan of colors comes through. On the back issues of the ASC review that I handle for the club. I have approx 185 different back issues available going back to 1972. That should give you many hours of reading and reference material. Scan is too large to attach. i will email it. Rex
  13. I am very hesitant to contradict Quinn or the museum. I know when I painted my cars, and for customers, I did paint the cowl body color. It looks much nicer that way. I have had many 29 to 33 Studebaker presidents and all originally had the engine side of the cowl painted black. Of course the question is referring to 1928, and I have never had a 28. Info for other years after 1933, the 34 to 42 cowl was painted body color.
  14. The easiest way to do this, is for me to loan you the old wood pattern. contact me. And why don't you have a email address? They are free. rex@studebakerclassics.com
  15. On second thought I believe the pattern is 5 on 5 1/2. But mine is a 35. 37 might be different. email Tom Lewis or Jerry Kurtz. Both are very knowledgeable on 37 presidents and I'm sure would be glad to help.
  16. I've dragged some real dogs on my trailer. One time it took the trailer winch and 2 come alongs to pull a 31 with flat tires and locked brakes. Still only took 4 hours to get it loaded. My president has 5x5 bolt pattern. Got any photos of the current location? Dicks photo shows it in the open. Be sure to take the camera along.
  17. Also view this post. It shows that cross bar. You should be able to pull on that out toward the frame rails. Not the center or it will bend. http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?80178-Isn-t-powdercoating-grand&p=834754#post834754
  18. Go to Tom Lewis link to get a good view of what the front end looks like. You can pull by going around that front spring. It is very tough. Just don't jerk on it. Just the spring, not the lower or upper links. Where is this event going to happen? http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?80456-37-President-Re-assembly-started
  19. My engine and spare engine also both have dates stamped on the machined area where the manifold bolts up towards the back of the block. But they are Champion engines so yours might be different. I assume this is an assembly date but could be a machine shop inspection stamp or something. Note that 12/11/1940 is also the ship date listed on my production order for whatever that is worth. I have also found those stamp dates on motors going back to 1929. But not all motors have them. I assumed they were assembly or machining dates.
  20. If you need more photos send me your email address. studebakerclassics.com
  21. here's some photos of the 29 roadster I'm doing now. Yours should be similar.
  22. After you get the nut off you should use a good wheel puller or you will damage the wheel. I found a early snapon puller at a swap meet that works. Tom Shrock restores the 31 and many others. He might have a mold for yours also. http://www.shrockbrothers.com/steering_wheels.html
  23. If you stay with the bulb setup you can use a higher candle power bulb in addition to getting a good ground.
  24. This comes up about once a year. See http://forums.aaca.org/f149/steering-wheel-removal-1933-836-pierce-338671.html You have to get the levers and button off first. Tubes clamped at bottom of gear box.
