1. The survey stated that I should drive a Riviera and that I was a Cheapskate.I find it hard to put the two together,as a Riv is not a cheap car!
Actually they said I was FRUGAL, but they both mean essentially the same thing
[ 06-24-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
 2. Has anyone experienced an oiling problem after installing new cam bearings in a 401?? I had a call from a gentleman that has 40 PSI at 1500 RPM with lifters that will not pump up.i think it is probably the front cam bearing not properly placed, but wonder if anyone else has had this trouble.
Thanx for any help!!
 3. The difference between the 2.7and 2.9 is hardly noticable. The only plus is that you won't melt the right tire.
 4. How about a left rear bumper end?
 5. The 2003 meet in Flint will have a time posted on the bulletin board where and when the DF members will meet. I will see that it happens ,as I am in the Buicktown Chapter, which is hosting the meet. I had a couple of station wagons parked near me last year ,so I assumed one of them was yours. That is what I get for assuming.
C-YA next year
Joe T
 6. I do not know if they painted them or not, but the bodies were made by either the Ionia Body Co. or Mitchell- Bentley Corp , and they shipped them to buick,so they may have given them some extra protection.

I know this doesn't answer the question, but it will give you some "ammo" if you decide to paint it. It would be difficult for a judge to disprove what you did.
Are you coming to Kokomo this year Bill?? You were parked right across from me last year in NY, and I didn't know it until too
late.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
PS I had the Sequoia Cream 40 Super convert
 7. You might also check the tire for roundness. It has been my experience that some of the bias tires built today do not have the quality control they should have. Jack the car up and spin the tire to see if it runs true. Uf it does not, you can either have it trued at a tire shop or sometimes putting it on the rear will resolve the problem.
 8. I have a copy of the tape made by john and Barb Gerstkemper fifteen years ago when they went on a trip with some of the Buick club in your beautiful country. They were driving one of Basil Keirs Buicks . It shows many unusual body styles only available in Australia. I have talked to Norm Bradford, and he informed me that there is a LARGE contingent of you Blokes coming for our 2003 meet. I hope to meet you,so look me up.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE 001
 9. Be sure you get one for your engine size! Each nail- head uses a different width intake. The 322 is 8 3/8 between hole centers, the 364 is 8 7/8 and the 401-425is 9 1/8
 10. I have used DOT3-4 fluids for years and never had a problem. Many of the older cars that were switched to silicone fluid have experienced brake light switch failures. The hydraulic switches ,after two or three years stop working, and you do not know it has happened until someone smacks you ,and tells you that you have no stop lights. My 40 Buick has never failed me in thirty years, and I use the "old" stuff.
 11. The 700-R4 has a 3.05 first gear and a.75 overdrive. The 200-4R has a 2.76 first gear and a .67 overdrive. For your high torque engine, the 200 is the better choice. There are parts available to handle all the torque your engine develops. As stated in another post, Art Carr and others make high performance parts to solve the problems. The RPM drop with the overdrive and the lock up convertor is enough that my wife will ride in the GS again. The Flowmasters were too noisy with the TH400 .I was running 3300 at 70 and now it is 2200 and the decibel level is half what it was.
 12. Car Craft magazine in the June issue did a build up of five big block engines. they did a Ford,Chrysler,Pontiac, Chevy and a Buick. When the dyno tests were done, the Buick outdid them all. the article stated that the Buick was the most expensive to build, but was the best of the lot. You can tell your Buddies that ,and see what they have to say!
 13. I am surprised that he was able to run the car on mid-grade. The compression of the engine should require 93 octane. If he ran it sucessfully on mid-grade ,he must have driven it VERY carefully to keep the pinging down. Lead additives are not really necessary unless you ARE GOING TO RUN THE CAR HARD FOR LONG DISTANCES.
 14. I live just down the road in Swartz Creek and if you give me an E-mail address ,I will send you my phone number, and maybe between the two of us we can solve your problem.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE 001
[ 06-11-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
 15. They are the right ones for your 40 Jim. I got one from him last week ,and it is the same as the one in my 40
Joe Taubitz
 16. Keep in mind that the BCA has a LARGE group that are not computer literate enough to take advantage of all the ideas posted here. If we start redistributing our costs by having too many options, we are defeating ourselves.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE 001
 17. The only real fix is to replace the unit. Any good trans shop can do it. they just have to pull the tranny and put in a new flywheel.
 18. Sid, Check with
Bobs Automobilia: 805-434-2968
Cars Inc. 908-369-3666

They both list pumps for your 58
Joe taubitz
 19. They will be setting up for the swap meet Wednesday,at the convention center, and be open for business from Thursday through Saturday. You do not have to be a member of the BCA to peruse the swap meet, but joining the BCA gives you access to all the info on Buick, and is a bargain .
[ 06-06-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
 20. When you plan a meet the scope of this one, you try to accomodate as many people as possible. Most of our Buick meets have been in July and the membership has come to expect the National meet to be in the same time frame ,so they plan on it. There are also many members that have school age children, and this will allow them the oppurtunity to join us for what will undoubtedly be the biggest Buick bash ever.
Joe Taubitz
BCA1308
BDE001
[ 06-05-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
 21. The Buicktown chapter has just received a truck load of bricks from the Buick demolition site. They are being sorted and cleaned, and will be available to the public, along with a certificate of authenticity next year at the 2003 National meet.
 22. The 455 with the problem has an aluminum rad by Howe racing (the same one I have in my street rod which runs cool as a cucumber)He is also running a BIG electric fan ,and it still heats up. I just talked to him this evening ,and he pulled the heads and had them magnifluxed ,and they are good. The only thing left that I can think of ,is a block full of debris.
 23. You probably lost a head gasket. Did you overheat the car recently? If you did,you might want to have the heads magnifluxed while they are off ,as you might have cracked one. if the engine was running good before this happened, the rest of the engine should be fine.
 24. Bakers recommendation would add more pages to the roster, and I personnaly would rather see the space used for an alphabetical index. I think the May issue is as late as you should go ,as the club events pick up rapidly in the spring. I think March or April would be better.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE 001
 25. I have two buddies that are having a problem with 455s running hot. One is in a 50 Merc lead sled, and I suspect he is not moving enough air ,as the engine compartment is FULL. The other one is the real problem. He has changed radiators ,water pump and thermostat and it still get to 230 in five minutes of driving. Can it be a cracked head ? He even pulled the heads to see if the gaskets were good (they were)Ican't believe the block is plugged ,and I do not know what to tell him.
HELP
[ 06-02-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
