1. Roberta, I have a pile of mounts. C'mon over and check the stack.
JT

[ 06-02-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
2. Both cars have good dual exhaust systems ,but It could be the heads. I suggested that they pull them and have them magnifluxed.
Thanx
3. I have a 57 Buick Special on a 72 Electa chassis, and it fits well. The chassis was shortened right behind the front A arms and the body mounts lined right up. The 57 had very expensive front end components ( $200 ball joints) and the 72 chassis has much better brakes and handling.
4. It sounds to me like your heater core has sprung a leak.
5. I have owned over 180 cars ,and I can't type very well, so I pass
6. You might also check the exhaust butterfly valve. If this is stuck in the closed position, you will overheat the carb. This will result in a vapor lock which makes you have to choke the engine to get cool fuel into the carb. Even if the valve is open,Buicks will sometimes vapor lock. If the valve is functioning, and it happens again, tyr pouring some cold water on the fuel pump. If that doesn't work, check to see if the fuel lines are in the proper place ,as they will sometime cause a problem if they are not clamped to the sheet metal where they should be.There is always the court of last resort( electric fuel pump)
[ 05-28-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
7. The car should run fine on 87 octane. Lead additives are a matter of personal opinion. I do not use any,and have run my straight eight 96,000 miles without any problems, but I have talked to people that think it is imperative that you use them. If you feel more comfortable putting it in the tank, then do it. They definitely do not hurt anything
8. If headlights are you major concern, you can help them by installing a relay . this will feed the headlights without losing juice by going through the switch. You can also use a larger feed wire. The previous post also mentions higher output bulbs, and that is probably the biggest change you can make ,but then you will definitely benefit from a relay
[ 05-26-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]

15. A good rule of thumb is half the lifter travel. Most lifters have .090 and your push rod probably has a 5/16-24 thread. If this is the case ,one turn will be .040 and should work just fine
[ 05-22-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
16. A good rule of thumb is half the distance the lifter has movement. Most lifters have .090 travel and if you have a 5/16 fine thread( 5/16-24) then one turn would be .040 and should work just fine

19. Jim, Maybe I should bring the picture of you walking around with the pewter cup you won at the national in Flint in 72 or 73 on your head! We did lots of stupid things when we were young didn't we?
20. You have a great idea Roberta!! I will check with Ralph and see what he can do.
21. I am only going to be there on Wednesday and Thursday, but We should be able to hook up Wednesday night in the Hospitality room
22. I think it would be great if the people who talk on this board could meet and say Hello at the meet in Kokomo. Check the bulletin board they will have there as I will try to set something up. It can be in the hospitality room. It can be any time Thursday or in the evening on Friday, as I am going to be at rhe drag races on Friday.Let me know your preferences.
23. I am not sure of the location of the hydraulic unit, but it is probably in or under the box. You will find a rubber plug in the center.Pull the plug ang fill the unit with hydraulic jack oil, and it should work. The hydraulic unit is a cylindrical piece about 12 inches long and 3-4 inches in diameter. You should be able to follow the hydraulic lines from the cylinders to the unit.
24. A 160 will work in most instances. This gives you a little extra to work with if you get caught in traffic. A 180 is also very popular in the cooler areas of the country ,as the heater works a little better
