  1. No! The 401-425 manifold is wider than the 364 manifold. Installing it on a 364 will create mismatched ports an vacuum leaks. The 401 manifold is approximately 9 1/8 inches between the bolt holes and the 364 is 8 3/4 .
  2. The B4B has been around for a long time, and for street use ,is still the best one available. <BR>The SP1 and the Poston manifolds are not as good and the cool runner and the TA are single plane which do not work as well on the street<p>[ 05-16-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
  3. I agree with Tomsriv!! The B4B is the best all around street manifold you can put on a Buick. The performer ,although it positions the carb like the stock intake,loses HP over the B4B.A single plane intake makes Hp in the upper RPM range ,but it hurts street performance ,unless you,have a loose convertor or a wicked gear. All the info I have seen on ther Posten S-divider intake has been negative ,so I would steer clear of it.
  4. The SEMBCA (south east MI) chapter has a fine Buick oriented swap meet in Troy MI every March, and the Buicktown Chapter(Flint area)has one at Patsy Lou Williamsons Buick dealership every fall. I am not sure when as they are talking about changing the day ,but it will probably be late Sept- early Oct
  5. Your engine has hydraulic lifters ,so the knocking you experience could be either caused from low oil pressure or it could be something serious like a bearing.
  6. My congratulations!! I have six children (all grown) and they rank way ahead of my Buicks,and that is saying a lot!!

  8. Billp ,I thoght I was quite gentle in my message. It is a fact that the CCCA is a recognized organization the has been around longer then I have. I accept their use of the word" Classic" because most of the people who have been around the hobby agree. If my explanation was in any way offensive, I apologize. I have been in the hobby for 50 years ,so I am not new to the hobby end the different organizations that make it what<BR> it is today.   11. The definition "Classic" is a very overworked word. The Classic Car Club od America (CCCA) Has defined a classic as a car that was of superior design and quality from the twenties to 1948. The last classic recognized by the CCCA was the 1948 Lincoln Continental and the 1948 Cadillac Fleetwood "75" . I am sure you have a very nice Chevy ,but it is not a classic. <P>
  12. The 215 CI aluminum V8 was sold to Rover. Buick never produced an aluminum V6. There are some after market aluminum heads available for the later V6 That were used mostly by the GN group, as they like to go fast.
  13. Doug,I am just up the road from you on Reid rd. Go west from Linden rd. a half mile and look for the Buick sign on my garage on the south side of the road. I play with this kind of thing a lot, and can probably help you. Did you buy the car from Barcome?
  14. I personally would prefer the earlier date. I believe it would be cooler and the traffic situation on the fourth of July weekend is really something I would rather not contend with.I do not have children of school age ,so my opinion is somewhat selfish, but you asked. <P>PS I am glad the national meet is heading West!!   15. I do not know why they have no seals, but I have put 98,000 miles on my straight eight and it does not use any more oil now than when I installed it . It runs about 800 miles to a quart.
  16. The switch has three positions. off , half way switches the convertor,and all the way in is the tranny down shift. You can use a continuity meter to see where the different conacts are made ,and tailor the shifts to your driving style. Just make sure you don't use up all the travel or you will either not return to idle or not get wide open throttle.<p>[ 05-01-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
  17. There was originally a tab that attached to the exhaust pipe bolt . The little spring attached to the tab and its purpose was to keep the heat riser butterfly from rattling.
  18. My GS runs 13,0s so it is fairly healthy,snd I have not hurt the 200 in two yrs. I run it at the track occasionaly also. It is a 4,000 Lb. convert with a 3.31 rear axle
  19. The 200-4R will bolt up to your Buick and the 700-R4 will need an adapter. I have a 200 in my 73 GS and it is great!
  20. The 53 V8 was the first Buick with 12 volts.

  22. Tomsriv has the solution. the Edelbrock performer is a direct replacment for the stock manifold but is lighter and makes more HP. The Edelbrock B4B makes a little more HP than the Performer ,but it moves the carb forward and may require some linkage changes. The B4B has not been in production for some time, so the Performer is the easy answer.The TA intake is a single plane unit,and is more suitable for racing than<BR> street use.The Poston S divider has not been able to show any HP gain in numerous Dyno tests, so I would steer clear of it. <P>[ 04-22-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]<p>[ 04-22-2002: Message edited by: The Old Guy ]
  23. Dual quads were only an option on the 425 engine. The 364 in you 57 has different spacing between the heads,so the 425 manifold will not fit. there were some after market aluminum manifolds made for the 364 ,but no factory units.
