  1. Bryan The sludge mentioned is the accumulation of filtered dirt in the oil reservoir of the oil bath filter. Aside from being messy to clean and maintain they will filter better and flow better than any paper filter. Willie
  2. Judd The gas tank and the vent window regulator will swap....all of the other parts are different. Willie
  3. Joe They are bias ply tubeless Willie
  4. The p225-75r15 is equivalent to the 7.60- 15 in load carrying capacity only. The diameter/circumference is smaller which will make your speedometer inaccurate. They are wider and will be more prone to rub body components and ride rougher (wider tires hit more bumps). The p235-75r15 is closer in the diameter/circumference but is still wider and heavier. I went through all this before the 7.60-15 was available as a reproduction, now with Coker's 7.60-15 tires my cars look, ride and handle well. Willie
  5. Hey Bill What are you going to put the headers on? Willie
  6. Check out Mc Vey, a Cadillac supplier: http://www.mcveys.com/ They have reproduction lids and rebuild kits for the pump. Willie
  7. I have a 68 page book: "Fisher Service News" (fisher no 10, vol 13; Buick no 4) 'removal and installation of body parts 1954 Buick riviera coup and convertible styles...40 & 60 series', includes the hydroelectrics for 100 series Skylark. Try to find this book...I can scan a few pages and post if you can be more specific with your needs. Willie
  8. Right click on the photo and select 'save" or "save as" and then put it where you have your other pictures. To place it as an avitar under your name do what you did to put the one you have there now or go the 'my home' on this site and follow the directions: edit personal info, upload your picture???,or url?? To resize I use Paint Shop Pro from Jasc software (you can download a free trial version)??.. also Adobe makes some good photo editing software. The bundled software you get with a scanner, printer or camera will let you resize but will not save as .jpg which is useless for these purposes. Hope this helps Willie
  9. Nice car Joe! I resized it to 80x80. If you like it copy to file and put on the your server of choice since it will not say on this server for long. Willie
  10. If you use 56 cam and lifters in a 55 you must use 56 push rods also to keep the over all lenght the same. The 55 cam is steel and the 56 cam is cast iron and softer than the 55, so theoretically the harder gear on the 55 distributor will destroy the gear on the 56 cam. You can use a 56 distributor or just change the gear on the distributor. This is a change over I have done on all of my 55 rebuilds mainly because the 56 parts are CHEAPER!!
  11. A few points I would like to make. Always check for parts locally at NAPA or other real auto parts stores (not Autozone)...as an example they have wheel cylinders for my 55 Centurys and they are life time guaranteed; they are not listed on-line but the store can look them up. Always use the right tool for the job, in your case you need "line" or 'flare-nut" wrenches. Never use an open end wrench to do the initial loosening or final tightening on these fittings. And please use vise grips as a last resort. This should be a steel line and nut at the back of the master cylinder so heat from a propane torch may work. Also since you are going to replace the line anyhow just cut it off as close to the nut as possible and use a six sided socket or box end wrench. Willie
  12. Welcome back! And thanks for sharing with us again. I have been keeping up with you at V8Buick.com. Maybe if they put in a General forum over there for those of us with earlier Buicks we can all leave Peter and all of his rules behind. Willie
  13. Those things look like the ones I bought for a 55 Century. they were intended to fit over the original damaged or rusted rockers...a real cheesey repair...would not work as a replacement. Willie
  14. CLICK HERE! As you can see the power windows and seat use the same relay and the top, seat and windows use the same circuit breaker. The part number for the breaker is: 14.490/4634948. The one in my 66C does not have an amps value that I can see but I would guess from the size of the wire that it would be at least 30 amps. Hope this helps. Willie
  15. First it was moved and now it's closed. We are so lucky to have a big brother looking out for our welfare.......
  16. All nailheads are very durable engines. I drove a 55 Special with 264 360,000 miles before it died. This old-tank got me through high school, college, and off road hunting and fishing. It is lacking in power compared to the 322 and later nailheads but this lack of power is probably what kept me alive! If it had been a 55 Century that I grew up with I really would have been "hell-on-wheels" Gas mileage is really no better than the 322. I am helping a friend put a 322 in his Special due mainly to the difference in piston prices and if he goes with the original 264 2bbl carb the only external clue be would the harmonic balancer on the 322. Willie
  17. I installed the lobe sensor as soon as it became available 3 or 4 years ago on my long distance driver 55 Century. 30K miles and no problems. The installation was straight forward and worked the first time...maybe i was just lucky. The idle is smoother, probably due to the wider plug gaps (0.040) I run with the Petronix. Gas mileage is marginally better (1-2 mpg), power is no different as far as I can tell. I pulled the plugs at 15K and at 30k and they still looked like new and the gap was unchanged and this was a used set of AC44 plugs that I cleaned and regapped...don't know if it is due to the Petronix or my great rebuild. I do carry a spare distributor loaded with points/condensor and tools to install. It's probably not worth it to put on a car driven a few miles a year but I would do it again on this car. Willie
  18. How about a BIG picture? edit: I dropped the picture...takes too long to load and will show up every time I post...looking for a smaller one. Still on the (under construction) web site.
  19. Now who moved it this time? Half of a thread moved with no notice? I thought the "powers that be" had gotten over that. Maybe that's why more and more people are hanging out at the v8buick forum. Jacking with the forum as you know is one one of my pet peeves! Willie
  20. Thanks rocketraider! That was a snap compared to a 55 Buick (or any 55 car for that matter). I already changed the front speakers using tips from this discussion forum. Willie
  21. Found a working clock (cheap) on ebay now I need to install. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Willie
  22. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> You are conversing with a professional in the field. How many like what their dentist says about tooth decay? How many enjoy hearing from their tax consultant this time of year? Are you just dying to hear from your oncologist right about now? It's a tough world when your dealing with hard facts, numbers, and materials. They don't give PhD's and MS's (I've got 2, by the way) in <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">opinions!</span></span> Everybody's got their share of those, most self-serving in some way. Does anybody out there really think there is a plus side to reiterating these realities for the professional environmentalists? It's not like we're keeping all of the Lincoln Navigators to ourselves. </div></div> Dave, you are a professional with an opinion (period!) I would be willing to bet that others in your profession do not share your opinion. Congratulations (or maybe condolences) are in order for all you new-comers who have chosen to take on Dave Moon. You will not win the debate in the sense that he will see your side. I (and others) have locked horns in the past and it only ends in a stalemate. The world will never be the same after all that heavy (Buick) metal rolls into Flint in July!! Willie
  23. Years ago Fusik also sold Buick parts and I still order from them on things my 55's have in common with the Oldsmobiles and am starting to order for my 76 Delta 88...really good people to deal with. Willie
  24. Still for sale. I can now get pictures if interested. You need this for a trouble free trip to Flint! Willie
  25. Too cold and rainy to play with my toys so you nice folks have to put up with my first attempts at html...something I've been watching others do for years! CLICK HERE!
