1. Hi Scott.
did you get my e-mail and picture of green wheel?
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 2. Hi Jim
To begin with, in 1956 Buick did not make a 264 motor only 322.
Part numbers for your lifters are 5231809, 1935 to 1955 V8.
Part numbers for your pushrods are 1343359.
1953 to 1955 V 8.
The part number 1171345 is for 1956.
Buick did mfg a Hi=performance lifter for the 53-56 V8, but had a different number, and you had to have the Hi-performance push rods with them.
Good luck
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 3. I know I have a green std, wheel, I will have to check and see if it is the wheel you need and condition. Too late tonight and too wet will check tomorrow and let you know.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 4. The parts book shows two interior blue colors, for the 1959.
Med. Blue Metallic, Duco #93094
Dk Blue metallic, Duco # 93079
You might have to look at color chips to get correct color. Usually the color chip charts will have the formulas for mixing.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 5. Hi Ted
Sold last extra air cleaner for Q-Jet, but I still have Ac filter elements for the Q-Jet.
Also have AC filters for the 2 X 4 , price is $25.00 plus shipping.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 6. There are also a few pair of Alum. heads for the 401. I have touched a pair. The OLd Guy
Joe Taubits can confirm. Story has it that there were a lot of Buick employees who were racers, Oval and straight track, and a few sets were cast in Alum. on a midnight shift or a back room. Buick never did ofically make any for the 401/425.
A couple of beers and some of these old Flint people will give up all kinds of secrets.
Jim Schilf /palbuick@aol.com
 7. Hi Bill
I take it that your body in still off the frame, make it easirer. When I did my 40 motor, I used the head bolts( i had extras to use) one bolt on the right front side and one bolt on the left rear, crossing over block. Rocker arms should be off to avoid any damage to them. A standard engine chain will be too short, use a chain long enough.
Hard part will be balancing, hope you have trans attached. Bolts should be snuged down not too tight. I did instulation by myself, went pretty easy, keep a 4-5 ft 2x4 handy just in case.
Good luck
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 8. I just noticed that I am No.7, I must have got on the form on the first day. I usually checked the Buick page, looking for parts when this form poped up. One thing about registuring on this form, I havent gotten any junk mail. This is one great Forum.
Jim Schilf / palbuick
 9. I think that there are seveal advitisers in Hemmings that repair the tank float units.
Probably faster than trying to locate a new one.
Jim Schilf / palbuick

 12. The bracket you will need is the one that mounts on the intake manifold. Two bolts holes, intake manifold bolts are used to secure, very last two hole on the driv side of manifold. Usually has a small pin that the kick down shitch mounts on, the other end of the switch has the round eyelet hole to mount to the carb linkage.
If you have this bracket then you have most of the parts to change over.
Good luck
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com

 15. I have a 66 Wildcat convt, and the trunk was painted body color, and had a material covering, along with the gray cardboard side and back covers. Cars Inc in N.J. should have spatter paint, also Eastwood prod. has paint.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 16. The linkage for the 2 X 4 is longer than the 1 X 4, you can shorten yours or find another piece and shorten it, The kick down switch is the same only you need the bracket that mounts on the intake. If you don't have this bracket, ???????????????????. SOL.
You will also have to lengthen the vac. hose to the master brake booster. And a new PCV hose line. Of course new intake gaskets are a must. Try to get all these things first before attempting to install, this will make it.. easier and faster.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@al.com
 17. Try: www.cadillaclasalleclub.org
Excellent for your cad. parts and questions.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 18. I don't think that there was any of these animals produced, with a 4 speed. The three spee on the column was a standard item with the auto trans as an option. I have only seen one anaminal a 1970 Wildcat, with a factory 3 speed on the column. It had to be a farmers car, no radio, no P/B, bench seat,
and a painted black roof, over yellow body, I think the only option was p/ Sterring. It was in a junk yard in Wisc. and had been picked over. At the time I didn't know how rare it was. I think we all have been through this, missed a very rare car.
Jim Schilf/ palbuick@aol.com
 19. I have an almost complete rear end for the 1939 Special. Disassembled, with ring and pinion gear 4.444 to 1, drive shaft and gear
set complete and assembled, have the struts,
housing and rear brake drums. This unit will fit the Century with the longer front tube, with this gear and Century would be a screamer. Come pick up for $ 75.00. Located in northern Illinois, just outside Rockford.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 20. Hi Mark
I purchased the complet exhaust system seveal years age for my 66 Wildcat, from Burton Waldron, Nottawa Mi. I got the stainless steel pipes without the resinator.
Burton's pipes were an excellent fit, no hassel to install.
No matter where you get the pipes , get the stainless pipes, for a few dollars more it is worth it.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 21. Try the Buick Farm. I purchased several trans gears for my 40, from them, price very reasonable.
The 39 Century trans is an oddball. Not too much interchange with 38 or 40, only a few gears, and some bushings.
I have a rear end from a 39 Special with a 4.444 to 1 ring and pinion. that will make that straight 8 scream. Only diffeence is the front tube is longer.
Anything else you nee for a 39?
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 22. In 1949 There were two basic series , the 50, Super and the 70 Roadmaster. The 40 series was a carry over from the 1941 special
series. The last 90 series was 1941.
Jim Schilf /palbuick@aol.com
 23. I have a set of reproduction side mount braces for the 40 buick, Special and Century Series. I purchased these many years ago to use on my car, but decided long ago not to install sidemounts. If you look closely all the holes are drilled in the frame for the side mount brackets, from the factory. I think there are 4 brackets. Price is $ 75.00
plus shipping.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
 24. A couple of parts left over from my 70 Wildcat.
Driveshaft, perfect condition, was rust and rust pitt free, sandblasted and painted chassi black, straight and smooth. should have U-Joints replaced.
Cross menber, 400 trans, sandblasted and painted chassi black. smooth rust free, pitt free.
Both pieces were from a low milage southern car.
Price is $ 50.00 each, you pick up. shipping would be quite expensive.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
