  1. Looking back, didn't these '57 BelAir convertibles go for around $150k before the great recession, at least at auction? Considering the devaluation of the dollar due to inflation, that's more than a significant drop.
  2. Difficult to tell without a side by side comparison, but the US Pontiac appears to have a longer wheelbase than the Canadian version, maybe to facilitate the straight eight version.

  5. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds/cto/d/surrey-1941-pontiac-silver-streak/7735789096.html A beautiful, fun car ready for summer cruises and car shows. This bone stock example of the last production run before the switch to military vehicles is in great running order and ready to drive. It’s not a freeway car, but it hums along smoothly at 60 mph. The body had a frame on restoration about 6 years ago, body and interior are 8 of 10. There is some light bubbling here and there, not visible in the photos, more to do with prep issues than rust. Everything works on this old gal, all four window go up and down easily, the door locks work, it’s a base model but has an automatic choke, inside hood release, and electric wipers. The engine is the 90 hp flat head six cylinder and starts up every time and runs smoothly. I serviced it last weekend, oil change, grease job and fluids top up. 6. There must be a reason an old car collector would purchase a '39 Plymouth, rather than this recently posted '41 Cadillac for about the same money, but for the life of me, I can't figure what that would be.
  7. Who's Pete? What's a syblings? I guess there are lots of folks out there without a life who like to hear themselves talk regardless of the subject at hand or any regard for continuity. Others are just hopelessly humorless. 🙃
  8. Everybody's wrong! Take the wheel covers to the swap meet. Go with Raised White Letter tires. 👌
  9. "He,...somehow thinks he has time to do,...eveything. His wife,..disagrees, and has tired of dropping suble hints,...so she has resorted to calling me to SELL off MOST of his stuff." I would advise caution in approaching the owner unless his wife has him hog-tied in the cellar. Nothin' worse than getting involved in a domestic squabble, especially someone else's. Check for NRA signs on the gatepost.
  10. Here are the '57 and '58 versions of the Dodge Texan. There is mention of a '59 model, but I have been unable to find any examples or documentation. Maybe someone in Texas knows. 1957 Dodge Texan: 1958 Dodge Texan
  11. I guess a threat is always a good way to quickly sell an overpriced, untitled, non-running car. Might be a good source for cheap parts in a month or two, once he digs into it.
  12. An interesting exchange from another recent post: " 1961 was the only Impala 2 door sedan produced in Impala's glory days, i.e. 1958-1975. I suppose you could consider the 74-76 Custom Coupe as a two door sedan. I prefer to forget those ungainly things, along with their contemporary C-body Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac coupes." "That begs the question, what makes a car a sedan? I thought 4-door cars were sedans and 2-door were coupes. There were Impala 2-door other years but yes, not called a sedan. Why is a 1961 2-door sedan not a coupe?" "Very confusing, the names changed over time and were coined by the manufacturer with no industry standard. During these years a sedan had a post or frame around the door glass. Two door, Tudor, coupe were equivalent. If there are no frames around the glass and no post from the front to rear then the word is “hardtop”. 2 door hardtop, 4 door hardtop, sport coupe and sport sedan." "There is nothing in the term 'coupe' which defines how many doors it has. The word has just evolved to mean a two-door car. That hasn't stopped European makers from building four door coupes in recent years.Coupe comes from the French word 'cut'. Body style naming has always been 'fluid'." Now, here we see a 4-door (sedan) with no frames around the windows, but having a rigid "B" pillar. What do we want to call this ?
  13. WOW! Talk about hijacking a post...must not be anything on TV tonight.
  14. I guess we need to establish a new classification: "RAT CLASSIC" Old and well worn is one thing, intentionally kept rusty, dusty, and dirty is another.
  15. If you promise to repaint the wheels and ditch the whitewalls on the A, go for it!
  16. This is a '52 Chieftain
  17. unfortunately, it will probably end up like this updated one:
  18. Shops in the Northwest will quote $100,000. for starters, without having seen the car. If that doesn't scare the customer away, they'll ask for detailed photos or for you to bring the car by (no "house call" estimates). Labor alone could eat up most, if nor all, of that $100k. and then add parts and supplies ...and that was for an early '30's non-running but "complete" mid-level orphan sedan (non "big three"). That's probably why common project cars aren't selling except to the DIY crowd.
  19. Here's a couple of piddlys about the Pontiac. Upholstery vinyl looks original, especially with the embossed emblems and the sunburn near the package tray, but the cloth inserts are not a factory pattern. The hubcaps may be original, but the fake knock-offs are added accessory items. No comment about the trunk mat except that it reminds me of grandma's oil cloth kitchen table cloth. The GM 1960 vista hardtops, in my opinion, appear more attractive due to the deemphasized tail fins and flat wide decks used that year as opposed to '59.
  20. Looks like Chevy was winning ...at least this battle.
  21. On 3/28, Seller reduced price to $12,000 ...and the seller is asking $15,000. for this? Maybe it's the California black plate premium?
