  1. UTUBE. AACA is displaying some of their cars on UTUBE and even driving them for short distances . The latest ones are a 1910 Buick and a 1928 Piece arrow limo. There is also the history of Mr. Pearse starting with making bicycles.
  2. I was born in March 1936 in a British colonial territory and grew up during the war. Grocery was rationed (ration card) Lead pencils without erazer. At school we used sand boxes and slates. The teacher told us how people in Grease were starving and they were going through the dustbins of American soldiers. Linen was unavailable because all resources were directed to the war efforts. Consumer goods were sold at black market prices. I know what hard time is.
  3. A beautiful car. The same company made the the windshield frame for y1928 DB senior.
  4. I was advised forget about vacuum motors. They are worn inside . Go to Electric . American Bosh is the way to go. Check with Sales@wiperman.com 631 587 3332 328 Harris Av, Locus Grove, Georgia 30248
  5. Any loose or dirty connection will get warm to hot. Clean and retighten all wire/cables. There is a black wire from the headlight socket . It is grounded to the fender. Clean that and the head light will get brighter,
  6. If my car breaks down first I will look for is gas. Next step is to check for fire at the contacts. If no fire I will go for the ignition coil. If the condenser is shot the ground wire from the plate to the distributor body will burn in a flash . I am subject to correction.
  7. Check out what Mat says. If the engine is running rough there may be a problem, or several problems with the engine. Worn timing gear or worn distributor shaft. cracked distributor cap, spark wires or spark plugs. Run the engine in the dark and miss firing will show up. Remove the distributor cap. Hold the rotor tight and rock the fan back and forth to reveal worn timing chain. Other possibilities could be fuel. Sometimes in the 80s GM designed a starter motor that was installed with 2 metric bolts from below going up to the block. My work mate had on of those. The starter nose was breaking every week. The starter gear was sitting too tight against the ring gear. GM knew about the problem because they started selling packing shims to move the starter about 14 thou lower from the ring gear. That was the fix. These are just possibilities. Do bash me.
  8. Frank, those are tuning capacitors, usually inserted in a can, part of tuning radio with a tuning generator to Kilo cycles or Megacycles on (radio waves) the receiver is tuned. Those capacitors are usually a coil of fine wire on a tube with a threaded movable slug. By moving the slug one way or the other the desired wave is achieved.
  9. There are dozens of types of capacitors and condensers for different applications. Comes in different shapes and sizes . Some are ceramics. Condenser and capacitor means the same. One is an English term and one is American. Valves (English) and tubes (American) The type of capacitor that can be charged and shocks if touch the leads are called Electrolytic. It is used for smoothing AC ripples to make the end result DC in Radio Applications. Some radios work on both AC and DC. Some on DC only and some on AC only.
  10. Let us start with the basics. The condenser is a device to store current and to release it when desired. With the points contacts opening and closing has a ready supply of current to to the spark plug, Too small a condenser or too large a condenser can be a problem. Look at the pattern of wear on the contact points itself will indicate that . The build up of material from one side to other is an indication, either too much or tooo little current. There comes a time when the dielectric between the foil breaks down and causes the foil to touch each other, rendering the unit useless. At best condensers or capacitors are difficult to test 100 %. New condensers are rated at plus or minus 10 0r 15 percent. Electrolytic caps are usually used to smooth out AC ripples to DC. The device for checking condensers are like a battery load tester.
  11. Like to clean the rust inside the engine block ? Drain and blow the fluid from the system and fill with vapor rust . Remove the thermostat first. Leave for about 30 hours and drain. Repeat if necessary.

  13. All good advice. The tire in my 28 DB Senior says 600/650x19 When I measure the outer rim, lip to lip it measures 21 inch. It is a 19 inch wood wheel. Sometimes the wheel axle nuts may have R and L threads Pre war Buicks are famous for that.
  14. Evapo Rust is good for cleaning small parts especially irregular shaped parts like lamp buckets. Read the instruction carefully before use. At times your help is needed. When the fluid gets black it needs to be replaced, Use a swede brush to brush the remaining rust and soak and repeat until clean. To remove rust streaks from your regular driver, paint the affected area with a paint brush, like washing motion , until rust is gone. The secret is to help it by wire brushing .I dipped a light socket with surface rust in a plastic container and forgot about it over the winter. It made a large hole in one corner . When the water dries out it leave a mush like gum which eats away at the metal, If you soak your dash gauge overnight the paint and numbers will be gone by morning. Clean your gauges by wash painting it with a fine paint brush . DO NOT SOAK. I cleaned the surface rust from the inside of the bumpers on my 72 MGB by using the paint brush method and helping with the fine wire brush. Wash with warm water an quickly dry, heat an paint. Today there is a plethora of videos on UTUBE. 80% propaganda PICK SENSE FROM NONSENSE .
  15. I used a test light . Ground the body to any battery post and feed the wire with the test light. It gives a fair indication . It may be on the brink so instead of a test light use a heavy (10) guage wire. A condenser may be good but it is important to know whether uf (farad) is adequate for the job. For that you need Data.
  16. This is how things work with USPS and Canada post . If I mailed an article from Toronto to Niagara falls New York , just 2 hours away, the parcel goes to Misisagua sorting station, then sends it to California Center , Then to the distribution in South Carolina. The Post Office will say 5 business days and charge for that service but 10 days later the tracking number will say out for delivery. (not actual cities, just an example)
  17. About 2 weeks ago, on UTUBE I saw a flat head Dodge engine modified to run with a single barrel down draft carburetor. . The intake manifold was cast metal. The original intake manifold was removed. The blog was in German, and short. I am trying to find it again.
  18. You will get your answer from the fellows down below.
  19. Do not soak faces in Vaporust. Use a q tip soaked in Vaporust and wipe only.
