  1. Yes, that is true about the windows. As soon as the rear door starts to open the window drops about 4 inches. Pretty cool setup for ‘50s/‘60s technology. Mechanical switches and relays. Top mechanism is pretty simple in concept once you spend some time to study the manual. It’s a sequence of operations. But lots of switches and connectors to deal with. One of the most complicated is the "upper back panel limit switch.” Also one hydraulic pump, electrically controlled hydraulic valves, and a couple of electric motors too. Oh, and relays. Lots of relays. Sedans are less complicated, but they still aren’t Mustang or even Galaxie simple. Curved glass is nice, but my windows are almost always hidden inside the doors. Here is my ‘64, with the rare occurrence of my wife driving. She says it is too big for the rural roads around my house.
  2. IMO, 1964. Longer wheelbase (3” added to the rear seat area), still the crisp clean styling. Cleaner dashboard than the earlier ones. This was the year they went to flat (not curved) windows but they still look great. 1965 added disc brakes and had basically the same interior but the front end got a little busy. Full disclosure: I have owned a ‘64 for 21 years now. I specifically looked for a ‘64 for the reasons above. I think they are all great. As Matt says, these are not for the beginner. You need very strong mechanical and electrical skills or deep pockets. Come to think of it, you need deep pockets even if you have the skills. When they are working, they are sublime. I have put tens of thousands of miles on mine. I did a road trip from CT to IA and back with my dad in 2010. Cruising all day at 70mph with the top down was just awesome. Values take off with popular culture. Matrix movie comes out, values go up. “Entourage” goes on TV, same deal. Rap videos, sports stars, etc. I think the peak was about five years ago. I should have sold mine then. I think this subject car is super nice, but it’s priced high for current market. Even for a perfect car, and this isn’t that. At a quick glance I see things like pitted interior chrome and broken window switches. The only way to get that kind of money is to airbag it and put on 24” wheels with an LS engine. Not that I’m recommending that, but that’s where the money is for these. This one isn’t stock, but it’s not custom enough either. I hope I am wrong because if this thing goes for anywhere near $92k mine will be listed on eBay the next day. 😁 - John
  3. Somebody put a lot of time and love (and $) into this. I’m not into fire trucks but I love it. Looks like you could have a lot of fun with it for relatively small money.
  4. Well, I’m pretty close to Bristol so I might be able to check it out for you. Although according to the ad I will have to buy it if I am the first to see it. 😀
  5. Neat car. But it needs EVERYTHING. Denver CL but ad title says it is in MO? With OK plate in the trunk, which I guess isn’t too odd because Neosho MO is close to OK. Looks savable but you’ll be upside down from day one.
  6. I missed this. Looks like a good one. That’s a lot of green but I love it. Back when you could get colors other than tan, gray, and black for your interior. Long time friend had one back in high school. Same year I think. Silver with vinyl landau top. 455. 8mpg. Loaded with power goodies. Great memories. Even at 16 it was hard to climb out of that back seat. But that may have been because there was a cop standing there at the time. Misspent youth and all that. Somebody got a good deal on this one!
  7. Careful Steve: “first person to see this car will buy it!” 😀 The siren song of a Toronado is legendary! It is nice, and I bet you could get it for less with cash in hand.
  8. So does that mean that all of the “parade cars” I see advertised are “coach built?” Bummer - I didn’t realize it was hacked up. Oops, I mean coach built. It does look fairly well done but so many unknowns with a custom like that.
  9. Neat! I want it so I can have a chauffeur drop me off at work every day. Oh wait, I work remotely. Dang...
  10. Beautiful car! I don’t know these very well, so I have a question for the ‘50s Buick experts: do the rockers and lower fenders look right? Should there be vertical seams on the rockers? Things seem a little wavy and just “off” to me. As if there’s a lot of filler there. I would want to put a magnet on those sections for sure. - John
  11. Neat car. Definitely not something I’ve seen often. I’m guessing the tweed is not original style, but it looks well done.
  12. M-mman, Gorgeous car! Thanks for posting the pics. I love the Mercurys - you don’t see many of them. I agree with you on the 289. Plenty of power for cruising yet better fuel consumption. That’s why I swapped my Galaxie to a 281 (4.6 DOHC). Well, part of the reason - maybe. 😁 JamesR, my Galaxie is not worthy of being in the same post as m-mman’s Merc, but here it is: (the poor lighting hides a lot!) The interior is the best part - I redid it last year: - John
  13. I like Galaxies, and I own a 1965 ragtop. This ‘67 is beautiful on my small phone screen. I love it. But Galaxies aren’t Mustangs or two seat T-birds. This thing would probably set a record if it sells for the asking price. If you like it, carefully check the frame for rust. Not just by looking. Tap it with a small hammer or poke it with a screwdriver. If that’s good, make a low offer. If they don’t take it, just be patient. - John
  14. I have a strong aversion to sellers who are in such a hurry to turn a profit that they can’t even wait until the car is off the trailer before they post the ad. My particular “favorite” is when they stop at a gas station and take the pics. That said, I really like the styling of this. The pics are pretty bad, but unfortunately this car looks rough to me. If it was close enough, I’d be checking it out to see if I am wrong. Well, maybe not because I agree it is wildly overpriced.
  15. Sorry to hear that Wayne. I don’t use that site either, yet I can still see marketplace ads without an account. What you describe sounds like you may have malware that got onto your device. You might want to get that checked out because it could lead to other problems.

  17. I’m going for the Lincoln all day. I’m admittedly biased, but I also think it’s the best value. I was around when the Fairmont was new, and I relate to some of the earlier comments about build quality and performance. - John
  18. https://southcoast.craigslist.org/cto/d/east-taunton-1928-oakland-four-door/7300762604.html Too bad someone let it deteriorate like this. What a shame. They say it’s a barn find, but it’s clearly a leaky blue tarp find. What are the knobs on the back? I assume some kind of non-stock addition? They look like cabinet knobs or something. More pics in the ad. None of them very good but enough to get the idea of what you get for your $.
  19. https://vermont.craigslist.org/cto/d/south-burlington-100-yr-old-show-car/7300227953.html More pics in the ad.
  20. Awesome Pat! Looks like a good find, and congrats to you! Hopefully it will be back in its former glory soon. How is the interior? What are your plans? Post pics! - John
  21. I guess I am an anal spelling nazi. In my experience, sloppy ads correspond to sloppy/poor condition items and significant omissions of fact in the description. I’m not talking about a single autocorrect miss like “Greeley”, that happens to all of us now and then. I mean the ones with multiple errors and no punctuation. Your mileage may vary. As to this car, I like it. The price is certainly tempting. It’s not too far away from me either. Anyone know specific areas or items to look for on this particular model? Thanks Auburnseeker for posting it. - John
  22. Neat! Gotta have a lot of room for that but it’s super cool. Not sure you’d save a lot of lives with that rudimentary equipment! - John
