  1. I love the looks of the Rivian. I don't care how it's powered, I care about form and design. And I love it. I've seen three on the road, all of them last week.
  2. Ford's Lev-A-Car was compressed air powered and built for, I believe, the 1964 World's Fair. Only one was built, it was too expensive and impractical to actually produce. AMT made a model kit of it.
  3. Hate that I'm going to miss it this year, I'm going to be especially upset if some of my most wanted to see cars show up, like the last time I skipped Rhinebeck and one of the GM Futureliners was there. At least this time I'm doing something fun instead of missing it because my stupid body can't handle the heat. It's just a straight run up Route 9 for me...I suppose that means I'll just have to appreciate the 2024 show more. For anyone thinking about going or not...do it! It's a heck of a lot of fun! I have lots of photos from previous events on my website, link in signature.
  4. Fyi...the restaurant attached to the Tennis Hall of Fame just about three doors away from the Audrain Museum has the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. The new joke in the family is that future visits will be to get potatoes and the car museum is the side trip 😃
  5. I took over 1600 pictures so needless to say I will not be sharing them all, but here are some from the Factory Stock builds...you can see them all on my website here: NNL East 2023 album | El Camino Billy | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy. AMT announced three new tools, a 1971 Dodge Demon, 1963 Ford pickup and 1960 Ford pickup. They made a 60 back in the day, but the tooling is long gone, so they made a new one. Muscle cars are the most popular kits There were more heavy commercial builds than usual OK not stock, but mine. I'm known for only building what's visible on a finished model, no engines or underside detail. The two Kodak cars and the Onx car are mine also. This was my favorite build of the show. Yes, the NNL started because of the GSL in Utah, which is where I'm going next week.
  6. Yes, I have some of the issues I've picked up at shows over the years. Fun to read! A few of the guys who had builds in the magazine are still active in the hobby.
  7. I ended up being the official photographer and shot a whole lot of pictures...I'll get them processed tomorrow, too exhausted tonight. Terry, I moderate a group on Facebook which is nothing but model show flyers. If you send me a pm with your home region I can let you know when I see any. There are some in almost every state, although the northeast, Ohio and Indiana are the most populous with shows.
  8. My apologies for not posting this sooner, but the world's largest model car show is being held today, Saturday, April 22nd, in Wayne New Jersey at the PAL building. It is expected that over 2000 hand built model cars will be on display by builders from at least three continents. I am bringing seven of my own builds to show. (Although mostly race cars) There are also three basketball courts worth of vendors and quality food available on sight. This is the scale modeling equivalent of Hershey. The website is nnleast.com where you can find directions, pictures from past events and much more. It's something we all look forward to in the hobby. I'm headed out the door to go there right now myself...I will share some pictures tomorrow.
  9. I remember a few years back the parking garage at the Poughkeepsie Galleria shopping mall collapsed due to the weight of snow piled on to it. They rebuilt it but don't let cars park on the top level in that area.
  10. Oh yeah, we'll be exploring. We are driving out so will be exploring all along the way too.
  11. Unfortunately I'm going to miss it this year...there's a very important model car show I have always wanted to attend, and this is my last opportunity since the people that run it are calling it quits. So I'll be in Utah that weekend.
  12. I saw this at the last Hemmings Concourse back in 2019 in Lake George NY. It's a 1911 Waverly and is all original save tires. The interior looks like you're driving around in your living room...it was very impressive to me. I believe this is the only tillared steering car I've ever seen at a car show in my life, although I can't remember everything I've seen since I've been attending shows my whole life. I've certainly seen others in museums.
  13. As long as people keep paying the inflated prices they will keep on raising them because they know we will keep buying them. I'm guilty of this too but I need my paints for my modeling projects...I'm not going to quit a major part of my life because some bean counters want another ivory backscratcher. And the cycle continues...
  14. I believe I've listened to AM radio exactly 1 time in my life, when the NASCAR race that week was on a TV channel we didn't get and it was broadcast on a local AM station. That would have been around 1998.
  15. Sorry for your losses, both of you. I am medically fragile myself (a term new to me but I like it) and I'm trying to make as many memories as I can now while I can. Last year was a "bucket list" item of seeing Mt. Rushmore.
  16. I hope the thread brings her some comfort knowing how much we respected him and enjoyed his company, either in person or online.
  17. Darn it, that stinks. Enjoyed his posts and his experiences with his Studebaker.
  18. Now THAT was worth turning the sound up on my phone at 3:22 in the morning for! Congratulations!
  19. That metal with the Gateway prison and gun on it appears to be a printing plate. Based on the size of the image I'm guessing from a magazine rather than a newspaper. That is a cool find in and of itself and even in that condition you could list it on eBay and make some of your money back that the car has been sucking up. There are collectors for those.
  20. I use Excel extensively for my hobby stuff. Primarily making lists. I keep copies of my work in three separate places and I won't leave my computer without backing it up. I've entered almost 200,000 lines of information into one file alone, in a file I originally created in 2003. I don't have the information or knowledge of your project but I would recommend using Excel for it.
  21. I'm not sure if this will work, but I'm going to try. Many years ago the Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs NY had a Brass Era exhibit. It was my favorite in the museums history. I took this video and posted it to Facebook, which I am attempting to share here. It's public so you do not need a Facebook account to view it...if the link works. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0kqCYaWYgZ1vjc2D6iTaALJ8KhdxzsycVvMN79fYpzXk4dGopvNthUVtXEHXeZAB6l&id=1531522572&mibextid=Nif5oz Edit to add: I have still pictures of every car on my website. I have more photography skills now and a better camera than I had in 2009 so I wish I could do it over again. https://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/automotivephotography/car-museum-trips/saratoga-brass/
  22. I also like the looks of the 42 Olds. Of course there's not a single car from the 50s or older I dislike...
  23. Our Edge has the keypad on the door but we haven't used it once, other than the one time when it was brand new just to see how it worked. Not having a key in the ignition while driving feels weird and wrong to me.
  24. I'm not sure if things are "not popular" or we just don't have the option to buy them anymore. I know in the diecast world we had been told that 30s cars don't sell...but they never even made the effort beyond a heavily customized 1932 Ford. Suspect it's much the same 64 times larger. They just decide what they think would sell, or they just think about what would be the cheapest for them to do.
  25. The Rivian prototype trucks have golf bag areas. The door can double as a seat (albeit not while driving!) I miss traditional station wagons. I love our family Edge, and I know SUVs are just tall station wagons, but it's not the same.
