  1. That car sold at auction I think a few years ago and then was a no sale more recently. I do not remember the numbers but it was pretty well done restoration as I recall. I will try to get more info.
  2. It was a postcard, I remember my grandmother showing me one 30-40 years ago, I remember the image. Thanks for trying to sharpen it!
  3. This is a photo (1945-1948) of my Grandmother's restaurant which was located on US RT 1 north of Bel Air, MD. At the time this was the main north south route between Baltimore and Philadelphia prior to I-95 coming through Harford County. It was called the White House Park and as a kid I remember it being a park like setting. Sorry it isn't a better photo but wondered if anyone could ID any of the cars. Thanks
  4. I think there are some cross threaded nuts out there as well but not sure how they fit into the scheme of things.
  5. In terms of value the old "rice burners" are the hot lick right now, honestly never thought I would see the day. Japan had a history of copying other peoples designs and then improving on them so it was a long time before we saw a lot of innovation but they came into their own and some of those cars are starting to take root in the hoby. A good thing I think.
  6. Great thread, thought provoking. I didn't come into the hobby until I was in my mid 40's and was never a car nut when I was a kid but did enjoy anything mechanical. My father never saw a vehicle of any kind as anything but transportation to be used until it could no longer move. I guess I got into the hobby because I got tired of all cars looking the same with no sense of style or individuality, they all looked the same. To me old cars are no different than art in that you should try to enjoy the beauty of the design, the visual impact and the uniqueness it brought at the time. On the mechanical side I like innovative and advanced designs that made a difference going forward. To me these are cars that mattered, that made a difference in the history of automobiles and excited us to see what would come next. Oh and it is also helpful if they are supercharged or otherwise boosted!
  7. I agree with the statement that 10,000 LBS is too much for anyone's 1/2 ton regardless of engine or towing configuration. I think I would limit a 1/2 ton to no more than 5000 LBS, car and trailer, and then only with an equalizing hitch. The proper tongue weight is critical to safety and you won't be able to get there in a 1/2 ton without an equalizing hitch. If your towing 10,000 car and trailer than you definitely need a 3/4 ton and if you don't want it shifting all the time a diesel. That isn't to say you can't tow something a short distance with a light truck but you better know what you are doing or it can go bad very quickly and when it goes bad it is expensive.
  8. Has anyone had any luck getting in touch with or purchasing anything from Jim's Battery Mfg. (formally Antique Auto battery)? Though I had nothing but good experiences with the former company I have not been able to get in touch with the new owners. Does anyone know of an alternative source?
  9. How about this! https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1019-389756/1962-ford-thunderbird-convertible/ It's not even a Sports Roadster, but the sale was apparently real and it looks like a nice car but $220,000.00!
  10. My carb guy is desperate for certain cores and from what he tells me some of those could be very valuable or not depending on the tags. I know they will sell but for how much I have no idea. Good Luck.
  11. My father in law would like to talk to you about the car but the number on the your web site doesn’t seem to work. How is the best way to get in touch? We’re about 2 hours away from you and I think he would like to make arrangements to see the car. Bill Clark or call my cell 443-465-0171
  12. I know on belts it doesn't matter what brand but they all have to be the same brand. Found that out the hard way.
  13. You aren't bringing this to Hershey are you, my father in law is looking for one of these.
  14. Turn signal switch would be my first investigation.
  15. I do know the policy of AACA and I personally am an original car person myself but the facts speak for themselves, most of the car hobbyist active today are into various forms of modifieds . This is validated by our diminishing size! Ask yourself why the Cadillac-LaSalle club, certainly one of the oldest marque clubs in the country, has embraced modifieds.
  16. Back to the modified Ford coupe. AACA will either figure out a way of integrating some modefieds into our family or it will fade away like the original cars themselves. Personally I love perfectly restored cars to original condition, that is all I have, but I have learned from my efforts to recruit new members for our local chapter that we need to embrace some form of "Hot Rods".
  17. I recently attended the Eastern Spring meet in NJ and, though hot, it was a pretty nice turn out in terms of cars. I know there is a good bit of promotion done inside the AACA for these events to get people to participate which is good and fairly easy. I wonder how much promotion is done outside the AACA club via local news, social media, advertising at other local car shows so on and so forth. The reason I mention this is that though that show was held in one of the most densely populated area of the country there were very few "spectators" as opposed to other participants and there helpers. The fall meet in Hershey needs very little promotion as people come from all over the world to just see the cars. Other regional shows not so much. I was thinking this is a really nice show and it is absolutely free to the public, it should be mobbed. I think the crowd that didn't show is an assume source of new and future members. Now, having made my pitch I want to say the organizers of the meet did a great job and everything went smooth as silk for me. I can only imagine the effort it takes to put together all the different elements of a National Meet so please don't think I am being critical. Maybe headquarters could put together a working media plan for all of the regionals to use especially getting word out via social media which many of us know nothing about yet it is how the younger people seem to network. Just a thought, I love a show where there are so many people I don't get a chance to sit down for talking to people about my car.
  18. It was a very nice article and the cars were all pretty spectacular. I was impressed by the number of cars that were not "Full Classic" which I think made the group interesting to a broader number of enthusiast. The real question will be if we'll ever see a non full classic car as the winner? I hope so, otherwise they should limit the field to those cars.
