“Shade” means color. I’m sure the shade was whatever cheap single pigment black the supplier had. The (helpful) responses have been about gloss, and while not tightly controlled, was perhaps called out by Ford. They do interact - duller blacks do not look as “jet” or blue even if the color is in fact the same

If you must use acid, please remember to dilute by adding acid to water, not water to acid. The high heat of mixing can make it spatter if you add the wrong way.
