  1. Agree. For a couple of other reference points, a Cadillac 62 was $3700, a Packard Caribbean $5200
  2. Approx numbers: Corvette $3500 Kaiser $3700 XK 140 $4000
  3. The difficulty is that the Darrin and the 53-4 Corvette had the looks but not the chops of true sports cars such as the XK Jaguars
  4. Alco car. The locomotive plant was in Schenectady, NY.
  5. There are still places that can rebabbet and line bore but make sure their machine is long enough to do a straight 8
  6. Century is best performing model with large engine in smaller body. Stick with factory fitment if you want to rod a 36 Buick, do a Special
  7. “Shade” means color. I’m sure the shade was whatever cheap single pigment black the supplier had. The (helpful) responses have been about gloss, and while not tightly controlled, was perhaps called out by Ford. They do interact - duller blacks do not look as “jet” or blue even if the color is in fact the same
  8. Hard to tell from the photo but I think that is the Henney hood side trim
  9. Which of our old cars could pass the dollars per mile test? 😁
  10. Exactly. I think that prototype will be a showroom decoration to try to sell jackets and watches. Their competition is a company like Shinola
  11. Do any of the articles copied from the press release say if the prototype moved under it’s own power? I didn’t see any under hood pictures
  12. Interesting process! Careful not to breathe the fumes when heating it - the alloy has lead, tin, bismuth and cadmium.
  13. Much of their stock is consigned, and pre-war is not their forte, so I would try to talk to the owner if the car interests you
  14. Won’t stick to most grades of stainless or die cast either
  15. Simichrome is also used in the tool and die industry so shops supporting those places will likely have it
  16. I don’t think either type was standard equipment. The sales brochure shows both trim lines with no rear fender guards
  17. If you must use acid, please remember to dilute by adding acid to water, not water to acid. The high heat of mixing can make it spatter if you add the wrong way.
  18. The canework pattern on the cover was used on the fairly recent book about L&M
