  1. The Errol Flynn convertible did not survive, but a recreation of it has been made. It is a handsome car. There were at least 2 convertible sedans, I think by Derham. and yes, the boat tail is a mess
  2. Who says you can’t do irony in text?
  3. The 9-7X still had the crap quality of the Chevy it was. There wasn’t a lot of market overlap between fans of Chevy trucks and fans of Saabs. The 9-2X was interesting as a WRX that GM would discount. The Saab 9-3 was mostly Opel-derived You can see where this approach led. Once Bonneville- LeSabre-88 become the same car, two go away.
  4. This is the Eight Deluxe with the standard hood ornament, although the donut chaser and cormorant were optional
  5. It would not take much $ to vastly improve the engine compartment
  6. Steering wheel center? My Packard used a similar brass disk, painted
  7. I think so long as these clubs focus on authenticity they have common ground. exclusion/inclusion of modified vehicles could be a deal breaking issue
  8. You think it’s a « great bargain » but worth 20% less. Interesting logic
  9. This may be a dumb question, but why bother with power steering? Just use the original manual steering. I don’t think this thing is going to be turning any hot laps. Or has it already been switched to Toyota steering ?
  10. Glass fiber was around, but I don’t think glass reinforced resins came until during WWII
  11. He’s not « restoring », he’s rodding. This forum is focused on original configuration cars. Try the HAMB
  12. Not at all true as far as design intent. It, like the Citroen 2CV and the Model T, was mean to be in many cases the first car a family could afford. Hence the name « Volkswagen. »
  13. It’s not “unique,” (a much abused word) since more than one exist. It is a desirable 3 window coupe body of a well-supported and appreciated marque. Being a 40 series indeed makes it a “Special. » (couldn’t resist)
  14. You realize he was long time editor of the Packard Club magazine, right? Cadillac was “that other car.”😁
  15. In a bankruptcy, parties that the company owed money to receive partial or no payment
  16. The grille is unique to those models, but the crest was used on the other models too. The all too typical damage to the cloisonné decreases the value. A driver quality repair is to use enamel paint on the damaged part
  17. I don’t think the six cylinder cars offered side mounts. The shorter wheelbase is in the front clip, and they interfere with the door opening. I think this car has 120 fenders and it looks like the doors will not open fully
  18. Agree on Plymouth. Only used early in the year I think. Most 41 Plymouths have a more stand up one. I remember it being very hard to find a lens when I needed one
