  1. There was a detailed report on battery recycling on CBS radio news this morning. I think it was an interview with someone connected with Tesla. One thing stood out is that he said the batteries are expected to last the life of the vehicle, which is 11 years. The journalist thought that was good because that means the batteries don't need to be recycled more than once during the life of the car. I thought that was bad because it means the whole, expensive car is expected to be valueless in only 11 years. You can listen to it here - https://www.audacy.com/kcbsradio/podcasts/kcbs-on-demand-20757/califonia-aims-to-have-mostly-electric-vehicles-by-2035-392094782
  2. Seventy-eight percent of the victims have been women, perhaps because they are more likely reach back into their cars to reach their purses, ... “You should never re-enter a vehicle when you’re fueling,” Mr. Wormser said. IF you think gas prices are scary, consider a far worse fright that Kelly Shager of Lynchburg, Va., got at a gas pump. Eight months ago, Mrs. Shager drove her 1999 Ford Ranger to a self-service gas station, engaged the nozzle’s hold-open clip to have it fill automatically, then sat in her vehicle. When the tank was full, she slid out and reached for the nozzle. Touching it, she felt a shock. “Then fire kind of came out of the tank,” she said. Mrs. Shager ran into the station’s convenience store for a fire extinguisher, but flames were already leaping over her truck. By the time firefighters controlled the blaze, the pickup was a charred ruin. According to Greg Wormser, the Lynchburg fire marshal, the fire was ignited by an electrostatic charge that had collected on Mrs. Shager as she sat in the truck. When she reached for the nozzle, the charge grounded, igniting the gas vapors around the pump.
  3. What place did you oder it from? Have a name or link?

  5. Yes I've seen that on fuel lines. Also can be used for much larger hoses. Here you can but it for $35. https://classicalfa.com/wa070-original-style-hose-clip-set/
  6. These type are good fuel line clamps for a couple reasons. They don't have a sharp edge to cut into the line, and they don't pinch under the screw like the worm drive.
  7. In the black and white picture, the yellow area looked darker than the green, which didn't seem right, so in searching for more pictures using "Gary Cooper Duesenberg" these photos showing the Female Mechanic showed up.
  8. Female Model Working Supercharged Duesenberg 35 SJ UNITED STATES - AUGUST 24: Female Model Supercharged Duesenberg 35 SJ. You could't overestimate an SSSJ owner, for there were only two, Clark Gable and Gary Cooper, who constantly raced. This one was Cooper's It's now at Briggs Cunningham, Museum in California. This car and caption appeared in the December 1967 issue of Motor Trend. (Photo by Gerry Stiles/The Enthusiast Network via Getty Images/Getty Images) (This pic shows the 3 pointed star best) Those pictures obviously are not taken from that magazine.
  9. They got the captions for the photos wrong I guess because they were going by the table of contents of that magazine issue?
  10. If it has asbestos get rid of it.
  11. Looks like it's wheels were made by filling a water heater tank with concrete, then cutting the tank away. So I'd place the value somewhat less than $5,000.
  12. I doubt whoever offered $1,000 will even follow through. I wouldn't bother trying to get more than that.
  13. Was used by the Grateful Dead Someone is considering recovering and restoring or rehabbing it due to the provenance.
  14. It got abandoned in Oregon. Was used in San Francisco. By who? And for what?
  15. It's the lumber situation that's the worst. The same piece of plywood I had bought last time for $27 is now $66. Plus since I am in California there is an additional 9.5% sales tax. I need several more sheets of this plywood, but the last time I bought it was something like 9 months ago. For now I will hold off.
  16. This 1928 was restored in 2019 by some outfit that mainly does hotrods. Doesn't make much sense. There are many pictures of it though.
  17. Hummer driver apparently is a man, and the lighting of a cig is speculative at this point. On Wednesday, May 12, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to an emergency call about a vehicle up in flames outside of a Citgo gas station in Homosassa, Florida. The vehicle in question was a Hummer H2, which almost burned to the ground after a man attempted to transport four five-gallon containers of gasoline. In what appears to be an act of panic buying due to the fuel shortage along the East Coast, the occupant managed to escape with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the Citrus County Chronicle, the injured man refused medical attention against EMT advice. The call reporting a vehicle on fire near a Texaco Food Mart at South Alabama Avenue and West Grover Cleveland Boulevard came in at 10:52 a.m. Citrus County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene at 10:59 a.m., extinguishing the engulfed H2 by 11:09 a.m. Based on the photos released by Citrus County Fire Rescue, the Hummer did not travel too far before catching on fire. How the fire got started in the first place remains unknown. What we can say is that the gas-filled containers that ultimately melted in the Hummer's cargo area certainly had something to do with it. Although a Reddit post that has since then gone viral claims the driver lit a cigarette, the Florida State Fire Marshal is conducting an investigation and will confirm the cause.
