  1. Can't go wrong here, plus he is frequently on this form answering tough questions. https://www.thecarburetorshop.com/History.htm
  2. Wow, how did you find a tape in your country with the forbidden American units of measure?
  3. I wonder if the seeker is looking for a set of 1940 bumpers? I'll note that the bumpers on all series of Buicks in 1940 were the same.
  4. Build: technical term used when a seller actually re-assembles the car prior to the sale. Project: Car is complete and the hard part is complete, all removed parts loaded into the trunk and interior of the car
  5. A puddle that big isn't a problem to keep up with if you routinely check your oil. But, the leaking oil soaks your clutch which is more of a concern.
  6. Grease that sits on a surface that has no moving parts in contact doesn't do anything anyway
  7. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YJSYZFH?tag=rogerwater-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&keywords=Oil+Vacuum+Extractor This tool is great for rapid clean oil changes (except when the oil filter pukes all over the frame and driveway). Works for bad gas, lawnmower oil changes etc.
  8. Thank goodness for natural light. Dan told me the paint looked like resale red under the paint booth lights, but really was dark maroon. The color in these more recent photos is much, much more like the original Buick Royal Maroon. Nice Oakland, huh!
  9. Mention that it fits the 248 or the 320 for a more pointed advertisement.
  10. Well into the paint. Dan has paint applied to most of the body parts with the exception of small items such as the rear turn signal housing and windlace retainer at the front door. The red that you see is likely enhanced by the lighting because the chosen color is the original Royal Maroon. I've struggled to identify the authentic finish on the brake baking plates. Skip Boyer has a set of NOS baking plates that are zinc chromate coated. The photo below clearly shows the original color:
  11. I discussed the front mat with @2carb40 who wondered if making your own mat out of stock would have been an easier choice than struggling with a not-so-well produced reproduction. I've been looking an found this possible choice: https://www.rubbercal.com/rubber-mat/boat-deck-mats/corrugated-ramp-cleat-rubber-runners.html The trade off being the appearance of a force fit mat versus an incorrect patterned mat that fit well. I'm continuing to think of alternatives.
  12. Thanks for asking, I thought I was stupid. Turns out I'm merely devoid of culture.
  13. In a northern Lake Michigan community, owners of old cars that no longer wanted the car or the expense of having it towed off would drive it or tow it out onto the frozen lake surface. By late spring their disposal problem was solved.
  14. You posted as I was also entering, thanks a million for responding! Ken
  15. From a 2014 post, Here is the function of the air dome. I wonder if Olds88_1956 is still active on the forum? The air dome aids in preventing the fuel pressure from "hammering" when the carb float closes. Just like the ones in house plumbing! Hope this helps, Olds88_1956
  16. I've seen the air dome on the discharge end of the fuel pump on later model cars like the 51, but not on the 1940. What is the function of the air dome (see "P" below in the diagram)?
  17. More color, but as seen in florescent light ay 5000k, it will seem to have more magenta.
  18. What does the factory supplied, side mounted antenna look like? Photos please. Want to ID the shape of the shaft base and the two mounting posts. I assume the tip to be a stainless steel ball.
  19. Where are services listed? I've been known to miss the obvious, so pardon that angle to my question.
  20. It is definitely different. Try northwest transmissions for the correct seal.
  21. Contact Northwest Transmission (http://www.nwtparts.com/). They will ask for your part number and send the appropriate rebuilt/reseal kit. They may even be able to tell you what you have based on the number. Then, you may either keep that trans or find the appropriate year trans if that is your level of authenticity.
  22. You could have either this problem or the one gangster noted above your post. Which would you prefer?
  23. I've also searched for a definitive, current answer and cannot find one. The only data that I can find is that roughly 10% of all fuel consumed in this country contains ethanol (https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=27&t=10). As you have found, most data seems old with no current discussion.
