  1. Saying the price is optimistic is optimistic. I bet $3000 would be a stretch considering how what we can see looks. Needs everything. Just to make a “patina” driver would be expensive.
  2. I had an Instructor in my abortive college career who had one(in 1969) with probably 150,000 miles then. He loved the car but it developed a problem with the cooling system that involved disassembling the entire front of the motor to replace a short hose. I can’t remember if he fixed it or not but the story sticks in my memory. I always thought these were cool cars.
  3. And if you find a lot of crud in the system and decide to remove the water pump don’t forget to check the water distribution tube as this is important to cool running. Many times the tube will corrode in place making removal a challenge.
  4. I am so pleased it is halfway across the country and I am sure transit costs would equal the purchase price. Desire is there but common sense says let someone else have it. That said I have always liked Larks and am a big fan of straight sixes.
  5. Illinois has two choices. A historical tag that limits driving to events, parades, demonstrations, and repairs. Cars must be 25 years old. Fire trucks must be 20. Number two is called Extended Antique and has the same age requirements. The difference is that from March 1 to Nov. 1 the car can be driven without restrictions and only from Dec to Feb are there limits as in the regular historical plates. Yearly fees for plates are extended: $45, regular historic: $30 for five years. Antique motorcycle plates are also available.
  6. Doesn’t look too bad even with the cosmetic flaws. Air conditioning repair will be expensive if the new owner wants to fix it. Just my feeling that $18,000 is, well not hopelessly optimistic but certainly more than I think it is worth at this point.
  7. My town although allowing many other kinds of stuff to sit piled in front yards might balk at this. Would be fun to have.
  8. Friend had one in high school. It had a 276 DeSoto? Hemi and a three speed manual trans. Pretty fast up to about 65 or 70 until it ran out of ump with the six cylinder differential gears in it.
  9. I suspect getting into them is not the real problem. Getting out however…
  10. Wife: I told you to sell that damn car. Husband: I’m trying.
  11. Near me there is a local repair shop that had been a transmission repair specialist since the early 1950’s. A few years ago after an ownership change they looked around and decided since the transmission rebuilding business has become more of a remove and replace operation that they needed to change their business model. They converted into an “all cars” shop. They still do newer vehicles but much more older ones as there are a lot of them around here. They have done a few jobs for me to my satisfaction including a trans service on my Volare. I see a lot of cars there so business is good it seems.
  12. From my understanding a rare car with parts availability issues except for basic mechanical ones. Looks like a potential money pit of biblical proportions. Even if I wanted one I doubt this would be it.
