  1. A '63 Mercury Meteor Colony Park station wagon drives the streets of Mayberry in an episode or two of The Andy Griffith Show. Ford supplied the cars, of course. Seeing those episodes decades later reminded me of cars I'd forgotten about completely.
  2. The rising tide no longer lifts all boats...
  3. Concise explanation of the economic corner into which we have painted ourselves. Generations of demands for ever cheaper goods with quality relegated to secondary or tertiary consideration have produced the results they ultimately were destined to. It was only abetted by a widened global supply chain providing what we demanded.
  4. 1968 AMC Rambler Classic 440 - $3500 - Orrington, ME https://maine.craigslist.org/cto/d/orrington-1968-amc-rambler-classic-440/7145535319.html Rambler American Classic440 that runs and drives excellent. Rockers have some rust but frame is solid. ALWAYS GARAGED NEVER USED IN WINTER198ci 6 cylinder with automatic trans. Radio with FM converter, new tires exhaust and VERY low mileage onon New rebuilt engine. Interior is very nice original as is whole car. This was my grandfathers Sunday driver in Camden, Me. with a total of 77k miles. Call fmi. (207) Nine-44-31-twenty-eight I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1968 AMC Rambler American 440. 5. 1948 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible - $5800 - Maine - Project https://maine.craigslist.org/cto/d/shapleigh-1948-lincoln-zephyr/7148892354.html# Original V12 motor. Car runs beautifully. Have many extra parts. Would make a great restoration project. Can hear it run when you come up. Call Tom (207) 4-thirty-two-443-eight I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1948 Lincoln 'Zephyr' convertible. Note: 1946-'48 non-Continental Lincolns were no longer promoted as Zephyrs through were continuation of that series in all but name. Production numbers for these is unknown, but they're survival rate is extremely low. Ironically, there are likely twenty restored 1946-'48 Lincoln Continental cabriolets for every one of these in any condition.
  6. Indeed! L-M dealers were fortune to have a Mercury which was finally more than a dolled-up Ford, though the lack of a real 1950-'51 Monterey hardtop built off the convertible body was inexcusable. As for Lincoln, it was up against it with the hot OHV Cadillac and Hemi Imperial; an F-8 truck-sourced flathead wasn't going to cut it anymore. In the Cosmopolitan's defense, it had one of the most elegant sedan or coupe greenhouse treatments of any at the time short of the hardtops.
  7. The 1950-'51 Ford Crestliners were a paint and trim doll-up of the standard two door sedan in an effort to compete with the new-for-1950 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop. In addition to the sweep-panel trim and contrasting paint, the vinyl-padded top, the interiors were done in the convertible style. They proved fairly popular, so held over even when the '51 Victoria hardtop arrived. FoMoCo outfitted Mercury with the Monterey, Lincoln with the Lido and Lincoln Cosmopolitan with the Capri done the same way to compete with GM and Mopar hardtops.

  9. Sad truth is he should part it out, sell the items that are unique to the '58 Packard sedan, hardtop and station wagon such as the front clip, instrument panel, interior trim, fins, side trim, taillights. Only '58 Packard Hawk came standard with the supercharger. Not unlikely this car has an extremely rusty frame which is beyond a feasible restoration.
  10. That poor old chestnut has been for sale on and off for most of two decades, it just gets more weathered every time the advertisement appears. Pretty much a parts car.
  11. We analyzed the origins of this 1942 Clipper convertible creation on this PackardInfo topic: http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=22711&forum=16&post_id=219109#forumpost219109
  12. 1966 Checker Marathon - $2500 - Faulkner, MD https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/cto/d/faulkner-1966-checker-marathon/7142600659.html 1966 Checker Marathon, 250 6 cylinder, column shift manual transmission, rock solid Arizona car. Has the rare rear jump seats and was being redone as a vintage taxi but WAS NOT originally a taxi. It was a private car. Has been stored in my garage for the last 5 years with the intention of restoring it to rent for movies (GOOD money, like $350/day and up). Alas, I have far too many projects, so I'm thinning the herd. Car isn't shiny, it's just wet from a good scrub to remove 5 years worth of dust (see the last picture from earlier this evening). Many new in box parts and spares, including a windshield and taxi conversion bits. Fix it up as a driver, or slap the taxi graphics on and draw people into your business with a unique vintage Checker out front. Replacement wiring harness needs installation, so dash is dropped and steering shaft is disconnected. I'm told it ran before that, but I HAVE NOT tried to start it. Clear title. Easy resto or go custom. $2500 OBO. 13. This topic has been and continues to be a feast for those of us who can't get enough of the rarities and obscurities that comprise so much of automotive history. Thanks to all who have so generously contributed, know that it is greatly appreciated.
  14. Good for them, they even got the convertible top rear window correct! The wrap-around plastic window was correct for the 1957-'60 model years, frequently disappeared when the top was replaced with an aftermarket top.

  18. 1963 Dodge 880 - $3000 - Mahopac, NY - Not Mine https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/d/mahopac-1963-dodge-880/7139108692.html 1963 Dodge 880. I am the third owner. The person I bought it from got it from his Aunt who was the first owner. He believes everything was mostly original and that the numbers matched. I have had it for 5 years and it runs fine. 1) push button 727 transmission; 2) Mopar 383 sought after engine; 3) original Contact: copy and paste into your email: d5e7cb98089d39109cf549d461c2d065@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1963 Dodge 880 sedan. Note: The 1962-1964 Dodge 880 and Custom 880 are very obscure models largely unknown outside of Mopar circles. These are a real 'what is it?' at car shows and cruise nights. Base engine for this series was the 361, the 383 optional. Think of the 1962-'64 Dodge 880 and Custom 880 as the ghost of DeSotos incarnate.
  19. Yes, It seems quite reasonably priced for an entry-level collector car. The proviso is rust damage, which 1957-'58 Mercurys suffered from rather badly, so interested persons should inspect it over carefully first to determine what condition those lower body areas are in.
  20. I recall reading that some state DMV laws stated that both taillights were to be visible at all times from whatever angle. As seen on the station wagon, in a 3/4 view, only one light was visible because of the styling and side-mounted location. The retrofit taillights were supplied to remedy this situation.
  21. 1957 Mercury Monterey - $3000 - Hudson valley, New York - Not Mine https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/d/vails-gate-1957-mercury/7145770449.html I put 10,000 in it. I’m taking a loss selling for $3000 firm. It was one of my drivers, it’s inspected and insured at the moment but it needs a new ignition. It’s a beautiful car, if interested call me. This is my number. My names Micky, call (845) 7- sixty-four- 36-eleven. No text or emails, they will be ignored. I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1957 Mercury Monterey sedan.
  22. The only way to get a response is to be persistent, list the name of the car for sale, indicate your general location and current interest, in an effort to get around the spam dumpster where most goes. A second, third or fourth request for a response should note that in the email subject line, spammers won't bother with more than one or two tries.
  23. Thanks John_S. Please note I write out the contact phone number with a combination of words and numbers so scammer bot computers can't glean phone numbers from the posting on here. Those robot computer programs are always scanning websites for phone numbers to use for robo-calls, but can't understand the combination of numbers and words. Too bad we have to do this to outsmart those creeps. Those CL postings that only have an email contact with a link to copy and paste have to be responded to more than once to get the seller to take the response seriously, again because of the many scammers misusing the system.

Of Note: The 1954 Star Chiefs were the first of the extended deck Pontiacs after Harley Earl applied the concept first to the Cadillac 60 Specials, Coupe de Villes and 62 Convertibles, second to the Oldsmobile 98 and then these luxurious top-line Pontiacs. Buick eventually joined the program with the 1958 Limited followed by the 1959 Electra 225.
