(craigslist.org) Seller's Description: 1970 Lincoln MKIII 66380 original miles. $8750 OBOOriginal survivor, rust free, great running and overall cosmetic condition. Some touch-up done to trunk lid but otherwise original paint.Interior all original, complete. Seats in very good condition.Top is not original vinyl.New tires, wheel cylinders, alternator, distributor, ignition, transmission rebuilt 3 years ago, rear differential seal and rear transmission seal just replaced. No major issues, gas it up and drive it (almost) anywhere!Known concerns:- gas gauge and temperature gauges doesn't work; I've narrowed it down to an electrical problem under the dash- A/C needs conversion. Pump, clutch, mechanicals work...can't charge until converted.- rear quarter windows need cleaning and lubrication; they work but need 'encouragement' occasionally- small tear in hood liner where seat belt mount was removed clumsily. Can be patched easily.- radiator overflow reservoir crackedI bought the car last year and planned to drive and restore it. Plans have changed. Car is currently in storage but can be viewed by appointment. Please reach out if you have additional questions. 8. "Any thoughts what the light coloured touring car with the California top might be?" I'd say it might have been a 1920-'26 Nash touring with an aftermarket "California" top.
  9. For reference on how the mid-'30's Fisher B-Bodies were built, here are three interior images of a rough 1936 Cadillac 60 that shared the same body with Oldsmobile, Buick and LaSalle and possibly Pontiac.

I can't say for sure there are none, but I do recall an on-line advertisement almost twenty years ago for the remnants of a 1927-1928 Model E convertible sedan in South America. The Model E was powered by the same OHV 268.3 ci six-cylinder engine manufactured by Wisconsin utilized by the Model D.

  13. Pastels, such as pink, contrasted with a neutral such as gray, black or white were the latest way to display one's fashionable good taste in that era. Along with plenty of chrome trim and flamboyant styling, it makes these cars very identifiably of their times which is their primary appeal now.

  16. Leif: Comparable ~$1,000 eight-cylinder contemporaries would be Buick 50, Oldsmobile Eight L, Studebaker Dictator Eight 62, Nash Eight 970, Willys 8-80D, Hudson Standard Greater Eight. There were also a number of good ~$1,000 six-cylinder choices within the same wheelbase and engine size range. It was a tough time to be a dealer for any of these makes. Although the Marmon Roosevelt, by then Marmon 70, you mentioned was in the $1K price range, its wheelbase and engine size were substantially smaller than its competitors. Steve

  18. Sometime in 1986, a now late friend called me, excitedly exclaiming his father had fulfilled a long-held dream of buying a Cadillac. Then, he said: "Guess what model?" I responded: "Sedan de Ville?' "No"; Fleetwood Brougham?" No"; "Seville? "No"; "Eldorado? No". At that point, I was drawing a blank, I honestly couldn't think of Cimarron as one of their models! He blurted out: "Cimarron!" Speechless for a moment, I collected myself and mumbled something about how nice it was that his father finally had a Cadillac of this dreams. Although it was a 1987 with the final 'refinements', mahogany with saddle tan leather seating, it still just didn't feel or look like a real Cadillac. I always diplomatically complimented his father on his Cadillac of which he was very proud.
  19. We still have a modern version of Startix today: cars that 'stall' themselves at stop lights, then restart automatically when accelerator pressure is sensed.
  20. Yes, sort of...but to have the appeal of the GM B-body fastbacks, you'll have to do some tuck and tailoring to get the sleek look! A two-door sedan would be the ideal basis, the B-pillar will have to be slanted forward as well.
  21. You are right! It's a Hudson Super Six! I should have put my glasses on and had a cup of coffee or two before I started to type! Notwithstanding my lax attention to the make nameplate and pertinent details, the same concept of reducing the two-door coach price to first parity then less than the open touring car was applied to the Hudson. For 1923, the coach was still $25 more than the touring: $1,375 versus $1,350 respectively, 46,337 Hudsons sold. For 1924, the coach price was $1,395; the touring: $1,500, overall sales increased to 59,427. For 1925, the coach was $1,165; the touring $1,200, sales increased to 109,840 cars sold. Prices for four door sedans were diminishing as well. In response to the Hudson-Essex lead, other automakers had reduced the price of their least expensive two-door sedan or coach to parity with or less than the open touring. 1925 was the tipping point, the first year the closed body styles outsold the open styles.
