To tell the truth, I'm not sure there is a great deal of interest in these full-sized sedans from 40-50+ years ago. But the AACA membership is for car enthusiast of diverse interests and now that these once common cars have largely faded from common view, the remaining examples in reasonably good condition warrant notice. For those of modest means and interest in a car of their youth, a full-sized Ford might just be the ticket to a lot of enjoyment. Even if it's acquired by a collector for a occasion daily driver in lieu of a worn out used car for the same money, it can provide use and enjoyment.

I'd guess the current NY seller bought the Dodge from the original DE seller for maybe $8,500, has decided to try a bit of profiteering, thinking the market may have improved for 1940's Mopar sedans. I hope the current owner likes this Dodge, he is likely to own it for a looong time...

The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975, Edited by John Gunnell states 2,405 1965 Chrysler 300L two door hardtops built. While not the most distinctive of the Letter-Series 300 models, it is the last of the breed which elevates its status. There is no financial upside here, there is the knowledge and pride that one will have saved an example of the legendary performance/luxury Chrysler models. And, with the performance perks built into the 300L, it would be a satisfying road car to drive.

As a rule of thumb in the era of composite body construction, i.e. steel or aluminum over wood structure, the frame was the strength member simply carrying the body which contributed little. In mass production, it made no economic sense to build varying lengths of frame for different body types. Although it's a bit of a trek, combining your coupe body with the available chassis is a worthwhile effort. Good luck in this endeavor.

When Jim Nance became president of Packard, he required a random car from that day's production be place in the executive garage for him to drive home that evening for evaluation. In the morning. there was a list of items found deficient to be corrected. This practice informed his meetings with production personnel to discuss quality control improvements for action. This innocuous appearing all-steel 1950 Plymouth Suburban was one of the pioneer body styles that burgeoned in the following decades as it developed along with the explosive growth of suburbia. Prior to the 1949 introduction of the Plymouth Suburban, wood-bodied station wagons were among the most expensive cars in any model line offering, plus requiring annual maintenance of the wood body. The Plymouth Suburban opened the segment to a wider span of family incomes and was rewarded with explosive sale volumes in the early years of the 1950's. Eventually the all-steel four door station wagon eclipsed the popularity of the two-door version, became the choice of the nation for family transportation until supplanted by the minivan and SUV.

Here in Western New York, there still are builders that practice the post and beam method of construction and material to build that way are still available.
