I will begin my search at NAPA later today. Hopefully they will know if Tom's 271301 or Bill's 217301 is the correct one. thanks again, guys! Drew

    '65 fan Q

greetings gents! From time to time I see talk of replacing the clutch fan w a HD one from a 1 ton truck. So far I have"GM" from an old post, & I just got the last three nos."301' from Telriv. Anyone have any additional details? If I show up at my usual parts stores w such scant info (even NAPA sad to say), I'm pretty sure they're going to give me the usual blank stares. Thanks if you can help. Drew
  5. appears to have a badly damaged rear bumper....odd they would use that angle in an ad

stay away from that crowded breakfast buffet just sayin'
  7. just to throw my 2 cents in, several years ago the trim ring subject came up & I ordered the recommended set for my '65 rally wheels. for whatever reason they would almost but not quite fit. had to pay return shipping. instead I bought a very nice set of wheels from Gene G. who's about the nicest guy to deal with that you can imagine. IMO nothing looks better on the Riv. Its almost like they were meant to be there.
  8. I don't have the thing in front of me, but I have removed & reinstalled the headlight assembly on my '65 several times w no problems. To the best of my recollection I remove the lamps themselves first which gives better access to the upper bolts. Hopefully someone w more recent experience will chime in to correct or affirm this.
  9. dear censors. please delete this thread also. thanks to people who can't STFU, it is merely a continuation of the last one
  10. Ive got a '73 rear bumper in very good driver condition, nice chrome, only minor flaws, (no rubber or hardware). It can be had for cheap, probably less than the cost of out of state shipping, or picked up in Orlando next time you're on vacation. Drew
  11. FlatTop! Invoking Klattu, as I do on many occasions, usually works. however, entrusting Gort to create the proper sized hole in the thermostat would be ill-advised.
  12. Wow! Knowing that Turbinator doesn't know everything about Riv hubcaps, or even that he has memory lapses, makes me feel a lot better about myself! Thanks Bob

    vacum line

BTW: my vacuum leak on my 65' was in the line from the carb to the booster. That line comes from a distribution block which screws into the rear base of the carb & I found it was not screwed in tightly.

    vacum line

Hey 63nut! what appears to be a vacuum line coming out of that dark hole could be the hose meant to go from the windshield washer reservoir to the washer pump (which is down in that hole) or one of the lines from the pump to the spray heads. drew
  15. Greetings,Shoes. My '65 trunk lid doesn't rattle, but then I don't have a subwoofer. But I went out to have a look at it to refresh my memory & possibly offer some ideas. I knew the problem was due to the inner & outer panels being loosely attached to each other & was thinking some type of caulking or sealer could be squished into the "cracks" around each of the depressed areas under the lid. Today, upon closer inspection I discovered that someone from the body shop had pushed thin stainless washers into the cracks in several places. They went unnoticed by me for at least 22 yrs (since the Riv was last painted(the washers having no paint on them)) & they seem to have done the trick, because I figure they knew there must have been a problem if they were used, right? Of course if Fisher had put seam sealer around the entire openings there wouldn't be a problem. Maybe you need to turn up the bass & crawl in there with a sixpack, flashlight, & some shims. with any luck it might be only one or two spots that are resonating. Another idea I wonder if anyone has tried is injecting expanding foam insulation into the large spaces behind the braces? Not sure what the expansion strength of that stuff is. It could tighten everything up, or I suppose it could blow it all apart. If not, that might cure the problem. then one would have to figure out how to trim the excess or plug the openings for appearance. Anyone got an old lid to experiment on? good luck, Drew
  16. Not the exact tool but identical in function. Again, sorry about lack of pics, but JoeC's solution is better looking than mine by far.
  17. & don't let anyone "yank yer chain" as we sometimes say
  18. the chances of that being a coincidence must be astronomical, right?
  19. If the '64 is like my '65, & I believe it is, there should be a small access panel just under the ignition switch which will allow removal of the switch without moving the console.
  20. Greetings char, Assuming you are outside the US, you will have to convert weight, speed, & pressure measurements to metric. sorry about that. We like being different.
  21. Reintroducing a previous topic shouldn't be a problem. I my opinion this is a not just a technical platform, it's social media. Members are free to come & go if they find something offensive(like a repeated question). Or better yet, simply ignore it. But I shouldn't have to conduct a search to make sure I don't bother someone. In almost every case new info comes to light from members who may have missed the original discussion, maybe learned something new, or simply didn't want to hassle with a difficult search engine. just sayin'
  22. RivNut! I'd like to give you a big Bro-hug for your efforts. For my '65 that shift indicator lens is literally the proverbial "missing piece of the puzzle". if I am ever lucky enough to acquire one I may have to find another Riv to tinker on. Drew
