  1. Checked my 1964 Glenn Mitchell Chrysler parts reference book and found the 1853901 bell housing was used in 1958 Dodge LD2 models with engine serial numbers after L325-41951.
  2. My son was at a train show before Christmas and found some ho building kits by a company called Design Preservation Models. They were apparently an independent maker when my kits were made, now I find they are part of the Walthers model train supply operation. The kit I built was unique in a few ways, the edges of each casting are tapered so you have to square up the edges before gluing. No reference or alignment details are included on the molded pieces to help place joined parts together. You have to hold them “just right” to get decent fit. I made some jigs to do that task for attaching walls to end pieces. Two plastic roof pieces had to be first fitted to the assembled building to get the correct length and then held in alignment to glue the pieces together. Again I build a jig to glue them. Finally I did paint the building with my craft grade paint and I used 1000 grit wet / dry sandpaper to cover the roof to get a more realistic look. So here is the end result. I did not take many pictures during the assembly process as I was too busy making gluing jigs😀.
  3. There are three engines available in 1948. They are all flathead in-line 8 cylinders. The largest is 356ci, the middle is 327ci and the smaller is 288ci. Horsepower is 160, 145 and 130 respectively. In-line 8 cylinder engines are great for torque over speed. All are rated at 7 to 1 compression ratio. The sun visors were optional accessories. It seems most Packards have the Cormorant bird hood ornament but there are photos online that show a version of the goddess of speed hood ornament. An eBay search of 1948 Packard sales brochures will help answer some of your questions as many brochures available have key information pages displayed as part of the ad.
  4. Thanks, the Tim Horton doughnuts are alone with the trip! Glad to hear your day went well.
  5. Your thread title is misleading, you say 490 engine for sale. You are not selling an engine so how about Wanted-Engine for 1916 Chevrolet Model 490.
  6. Do you know the thread size, it will help to have that information.
  7. I wonder what issues might have slowed down his enthusiasm? Looks good for the asking price.
  8. The wheels make it look like a life size kiddy car. The $30k price makes it look a lot less attractive too.
  9. The tires on it don’t look much wider that ones you find on a balloon bicycle.
  10. Thanks Dave! Friend of mine is a big Brit car fan and owns several including I believe 2 Morris Minors, maybe more by now. Also has TR-3, TR-4 and more. I almost bought a TR-3 years ago in the same color as your Morris. I still regret not getting it. PS- If you look around in your local stores that sell new Matchbox toys they recently came out with a Morris Minor. I’ve seen it on line but not in my local stores yet.
  11. A quick battery load test is to measure the battery voltage like in you first picture and then turn the headlights on. If the battery drops to something like 3 volts then you know you have a battery issue.
  12. I would suggest getting the battery load tested. Yes I know you said it’s almost new but even new ones can act strange. It’s possible the starter is damaged or stuck too. You may want to bench test the starter to make sure it’s ok. When a dc motor like a starter is under load it draws lots of current which will make the battery output go to near zero.
  13. Definitely not Hot Wheels, their stuff is always well marked. Looks like a bit of an homologation of vehicles, probably to escape paying royalties.
  14. I used clear plastic mini parts drawer dividers to make flat glass windshield pieces and clear soda bottle plastic from a 20oz bottle to make curved glass.
  15. Not a common color for Cadillacs. In this kind of car a four door is normal for the buyer who wanted a step up car in the GM lineup in that era. My take on the green color is that the original owner was moving up from Buick or Oldsmobile but still wanted a family mover in a brighter color than black.
  16. Could be your ignition switch is making poor internal connections too.
  17. The red lights could get you pulled over in PA as only authorized emergency vehicles can have red lights displayed. Given the year of the car it might get overlooked too. If it was my car they would be the first things to go.
  18. My son got me this Hot Wheels two car set for Christmas. Fits right in to our discussion. I just saw the set is ok for ages 3 and up. I got that part covered😀.
  19. Don, you did a lot of detailing! Nice job.
