  1. In this photo, is that some sort of wax paper on the dash behind the cover? Is there any wood back there? My DL coupe is kinda gutted, so I don't know what goes in that area. I just have a series of large open holes stamped in the brace. Also, are the trim pieces behind the windshield side arms upholstered or painted? Also, I need to look in some of my extra parts. I may have an extra DL sedan hood (they are different than coupe hoods: the top panel trim line is higher up on the sedan). But yours looks salvageable.
  2. Here are some pictures of the gray and then the gold:
  3. I am trying to decide what color to paint my 1938 Imperial, which is something that won't be for a while yet, but I would like to start gathering information on. I have looked on Autocolorlibrary.com, as well as the DuPont online archives to get an idea what color my car may have been, but so far I am still unsure. My car "was" a 1938 C19 convertible that some farmer turned into a truck by hacking off the entire back part many years ago, and the rear body was subsequently replaced with one from a 1937 Royal convertible after my father acquired the car in the 1960's. I am now trying to finish this car where my dad left off on it before his passing. There are a number of places under the side trim that show the original color(s). The original body was a metallic grey (perhaps "Chinchilla Grey") with a red vinyl interior (based on some remnants of the original door panels). The replacement 1937 body was originally a metallic brown/gold colour (it appears similar to "Del Monte Beige") with a tan top (no clue on the interior, as it's missing). I'm basing this on what color chips I was able to find before. Are there any specific paint names and recipes for Canadian cars available? I am leaning towards painting the car in the brown color. I did try to photograph a spot where I was able to buff some paint, but this is a difficult color to capture, and will post a couple of photos later on. My 1938 Chrysler Canada parts book doesn't have much detail on paint nor trim codes. Perhaps one of you guys might have some info that could help me try to get enough information to get some correct paint mixed up.
  4. If you pour pickling vinegar in it and let it soak for a few days, the rust will soften up and then you can rinse it out. Have used vinegar a few times already to unseize engines.
  5. I am looking for some photos and dimensions of the top latches/clamps and sun visors found on any 1938 Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth or DeSoto convertible coupe. My car is missing the above parts. I'm also wondering if there is a difference between 1937 and 38 top hold downs as well. Mine appears to have notches in the pegs that locate the roof. Are these for some sort of bolt/wing nut setup (currently have a bolt threaded in that lines up with the notch)?
  6. Boy, I sure am missing a pile of parts! I do have the outer bezel and a horn button, but everything else is gone. Thanks for the parts supply tip. Will check with him.
  7. I ended up finding one useable crank hole cover so far. Thanks for all the information! I am still in need of a second one.
  8. Does anyone have any pictures of these parts at all?
  9. I thought I would put this back up to the top. I found a pair of visor mounts, but they ended up being both of the same side. I am still in need of visors as well.
  10. Yes, I do remember going to swap meets and wrecking yards with my dad and looking though piles of Ford and GM stuff at Iola when I was still in school. Needless to say, I am thankful for the internet and how its easier to find others with possible resources. But the parts have gotten more expensive. However, finding a part online and having it shipped to my house is so much easier and cheaper than traveling across the country to find that one part, so I guess it might not be more expensive in the end. Anyhow, the quest for parts for the cars in my signature has been ongoing since the mid 1960's (well before I was even born), and I really do wish to finish these properly and sooner than later.
  11. I'm slowly digging through the parts my dad had collected to restore his two DL coupes, and I'm finding that what's missing is really tough to find.
  12. I will confirm that my '32 DL rumble seat coupe has the exact handles that the original post show, so your handles are indeed the right handles. My passenger handle is missing the lock tumbler and inner parts though, so, you're lucky your handles are complete and in nice condition.
  13. I am in need of a crank hole cover for my 1932 Dodge DL Coupe. If anyone knows of one for sale, please send me a private message, or reply to this thread. I missed one a while ago on eBay, mostly because I wasn't sure if it was correct or not. Anyways, if someone out there has one, I would be interested in purchasing. (actually, I would be interested in two, as both coupes I am restoring are missing this cover, but I doubt that someone has two spare covers!). Thanks!
  14. I have no connection to the following, but these might be of help: Muscle Car Restorations, Inc. - Classic Car Restoration Specialists Mo-Par City https://www.autometaldirect.com/
  15. I have a 1938 Buick steering wheel that I am looking to make complete. It is the chrome multi-spoke version. From what I can figure out, it is missing the horn button and the horn ring, and everything inside like contacts, wiring, springs, etc. It does have the chrome cast outer horn button bezel. I'm trying to figure out what is all missing and where I can find these parts for a reasonable amount (and what they should look like).
  16. Yeah, my brother's 1938 D9 has the fancy amber and gold wings. Thanks for the photos guys!
  17. I've been to both French Lake and Windy Hills, but that was over 15 years ago. There wasn't much there for the Imperial at the time I went. I will look into it to see if they've added to the yards since that time. Thanks for the links! I might have to go for a weekend trip!
  18. You're reading my mind now! That's the question I had in my mind after staring at that grill emblem for a while and wondering if the spare cover ones had that groove or not. Speaking of emblems, I've seen one picture of one with yellow on the inner parts of the wings (feathers), and plated wingtips. My radiator badge needs to be redone, as it looks like someone tried to pry it off. The blue cloisonné on the center shield is damaged, but it don't have anything on the wings other than chrome/nickel. What's it supposed to look like?
  19. That's what I thought the body number meant. Also, I was able to find my serial number, and it's within the last 2000 DL's produced in 1932 according to the serial number ranges (and that handy decoder on the Plymouth First Decade site). I guess my next step is to get my documentation package from Chrysler Historical. I think that the car was originally Dodge blue, but I don't know if the fenders were black. There's no paint left on them.
  20. Body number (firewall) is "DL 1725 TPC" I can't open my passenger door at the moment, and don't have the papers with the VIN handy at the moment either (such is the fun of having the car, parts and books, and myself in 3 different locations).
  21. Engine#: D DL22047 B
  22. I cleaned up the pad on the side of engine block (left side near the front) and the block itself it stamped with DL, so the engine is correct to the car, and may even be the original engine. On the head, there is a raised casting "SC" and "SILVER DOME", so I'm going to say that it's DeSoto (as was painted on with paint pen at some point). I'll likely replace the head with a DL head. I'll also have to give the engine a bath to see if there's any remains of original paint on it. Jason: Thanks for the tip on Chrysler Historical. I found their contact info and plan to send them the VIN and some $$ to get the line card on this car, and some other goodies.
