1. Thanks for the information. That's really neat stuff to know. I might have more luck looking for a trunk that has the correct visual look to it than the actual correct trunk. The DL I'm working on did not come with the side-mount spares, nor the trunk rack, however my father did collect most all of the parts to add them to the car, so I may as well add them, as I do prefer the look for the dual spares anyhow. As for the Lyon covers, I'll have to keep an eye out for a set. I think I might have some outer bands that look similar, but I will have to measure them (width and approx O.D.). I know I don't have any of the side covers though. I've attached a pair of cropped photos, the first showing the Lyon, the second showing some different cover (on a DK). Both look nicer than the bare tire to me. Did they just re-use the rad shell emblem on the covers, or is that a special badge that is going to be impossible to find? I wish I had clearer photos. I might have to order some of those factory prints off eBay.
2. Looking at 1918 Chevrolet Models FA and 490, that seems to match the application. Thanks!
3. I am wondering if anyone might know what car this particular windshield frame would have originally been on. It has been hanging around for a very long time (longer than I've been around), and it's been bugging me to find out what it's for. See the attached photos for details:
4. It's likely a parts book for export cars. I'll send you some scans mid-week. Most of the parts listed should be similar, I would think (hope?). The car I'm working on is a US car and I'm assuming was originally sold in the US as that's where my parents bought it about 15 years ago before bringing it here to Canada. My brother's DL business coupe is a Canadian car and has 6-bolt 19" wheels on it (6-bolt chevy wheels seem to bolt up). I'm not sure if it left the factory that way or not. I'm not up on all the little differences yet. The business couple is missing so much that if there were any different parts, they likely aren't there anymore. I've also been looking at some of the factory photos floating on eBay, and it looks like there were two types of spare covers. One that appears to be a wide chrome band over the tread with a painted ring over the sidewall (Lyons?), the other seems to be two curved sides with a thin chrome strip in the center. I have the later style on the 1938 Imperial, and the former style seems to show up more often in the factory photos. I don't imagine that either is very easy to find in a 5.50/18 tire size.
5. Thanks guys. I checked the (incomplete) set of copied pages I have and it's a "parts list", but not a master parts list. The front page reads: Dodge Brothers Six (Code DL) Parts List Starting with Serial Number 3,558,101 Chrysler Export Corporation Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A The inside page header says it was published January 1, 1932. And the other partial set of copied pages I have comes from "Dodge Brothers Passenger Car Master Parts List, August 1934" I also have a few Hollander interchange books spanning those years, so I might be OK in that regard. But I'll keep looking for a couple of actual parts list books, either original or reprints to fill in some blanks.
6. What's a good cross-reference parts book to have for looking for parts for these cars? I have what seems to be photocopies of parts of the 1932 parts book, and some phptocopied sections of a 1934 master parts list, but it doesn't appear complete at all. I wouldn't mind finding a complete master parts list (if they had one spanning all Mopar brands from 1931-1938 that would be good, as that would help with my C19 as well). Secondly, for sidemount spares, I would like to find the spare tire covers like shown in some of the factory photos. Does anyone know the brand for these or where I should start looking? Thirdly, I found the trunk rack for the car, however I cannot reach it at the moment, but I would like to start the hunt for an appropriate trunk. The parts list my father left has notes for a 36 x 16 trunk, but I haven't come up with much online for that. Did Dodge offer any particular brand of trunk? Thanks!
7. My 1938 RE31 has the same grill, so I would say it's indeed a '38.
8. Currently my '38 Dodge RE31 1.5Ton truck has an unknown origin exhaust on it. It has a steel flex pipe from the manifold to the exhaust pipe, which is solid mounted under the right frame rail. It runs straight back to a muffler right behind the cab then ends. I'm not sure if this is the way it was originally. The only details from the service manual is the lubrication chart shows that it runs under the frame rail in the portion under the cab. The book has no details of what's supposed to be connected to the manifold. I don't have a parts book that covers this truck, but I doubt it would have illustrations showing this anyhow. The 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks show the exhaust running between the transmission and the frame, and that would be likely with a rigid head pipe and rubber mounts for the exhaust. This is what we are looking to do on this truck, for lack of knowing what's supposed to be there. The rigid mounting looks like its the cause of all the current exhaust leaks. What do you guys think?
9. I've revised my list above. Many of the parts or information that I need can also come from Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto and Chrysler convertible coupes. I'm convinced that I will have to have new seat frames made.
10. Alrighty, that's fair enough. I glanced at my parts manual, and it lists a different part number for 1932 vs 1933 Dodge, but I'm not sure on the Dodge vs Desoto.
11. $4K is asking. After spending all evening looking at photos, 1933-'35 have one kind of rear doors (square corners, 3 hinges), 1936-'38 have another style, which looks similar (if not same) to 1939-'47 (rounded corners, 2 hinges).
12. I can check on my '32 DL on the weekend regarding dimensions. I am also very interested in the set if they are available, as my coupe is missing the seat bottom, and my friend's DL is missing the back (lid) cushion.
13. Thanks guys, I guess the "cost" of getting into one of these '33-'34 models is getting up there! but like you said, this is a good opportunity on a decent starting point, and I have been wishing to find a 1933 pickup, but this is a bit neater yet. I appreciate your opinions on this thing. We'll see how things go. Do any of you have photos of what the back end/doors and inside top of the cargo area is supposed to look like? I am up for a challenge, and making new parts is doable, as long as patterns are around to copy.
14. I'll have to look at it again and see. I wish I had a dodge truck parts book spanning multiple years to see what rear doors are the same.
15. The asking price is 2/3 of you're estimate, which I though was a bit high considering the missing rear body parts. The dash is complete minus a couple of knobs, it's missing all the glass, there are no seats, there is no cargo floor left, there are no rear wheels, the powertrain appears to be all there, the cab roof looks like someone welded a steel insert where cloth might have been, and as described above, the rear body is cut and bent and the rear doors and hinge posts are missing, along with the roof section that would be above the doors.
16. Here's a few shots of it (apologies for the low-resolution phone pictures): As you can see, the top looks squashed/cut off, but that's because it's cut and folded in. I don't have better shots of the damage though.
17. Thanks! That is what I am thinking. I would like to purchase it to save it rather than it being cut up for parts or otherwise. The lack of rear doors is the big concern for me.
18. I'll see if I can post some photos this evening.
19. Hi all, I am considering the purchase of a 1933 Dodge panel truck. I am certain it is a 1933 model based on the instrument cluster and the wire wheels (as opposed to '34-'35 models). The issue is it was "converted" to a farm truck at some point in the past (as have a lot of vintage cars in this area). The conversion entailed cutting out the back doors and folding in the roof edges where the cloth insert goes. So now it looks like a grain truck with no tail gate. Other than that, it is mostly all there, but has been sitting for a long time with typical dented and torn front fenders, and the rear fenders are half missing. My questions are: do later doors interchange? Where would one get rear body parts (rear panel and door frame) to make this correct? I believe the roof can be massaged back into shape. Also, are the rear fenders the same as other body styles, or is this another terribly hard to find item? Also, what's a ballpark range of value for something like this? I think the owner is asking a little much, but I haven't been able to find anything similar for reference to know what "fair" market value for something like this is. Thanks!
20. I am looking for the following parts for a 1938 Chrysler Imperial convertible coupe (C19): - Complete front seat assembly, including adjusters/slides, or very detailed photographs and dimensions of same from someone's car. The seat appears to be the same on 1937 and 1938 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler convertible coupes, possibly 1939 Plymouth convertible coupe as well. My car is missing the entire front seat assembly, so any leads or information would be appreciated; - Rumble seat bottom cushion assembly (or detailed dimensions and photos as mine is missing); (same possible donor cars as above) - Rumble seat interior panel patterns; (same possible donor cars as above) - Coupe or convertible Left Side stainless steel door and rear body trim (I am missing the rear body piece from the door to the tail along the quarter panel, as well as the door). Chrysler C18 Royal or C19 Imperial coupe or convertible coupe trim works; - Running Board stainless trim, top strips and side molding (any 1938 Chrysler Imperial C19 trim should fit); - Convertible coupe door sill plate (good sample, pattern, dimensioned sketch and detailed photos, or whatever I can use to get new ones made - mine are missing). - Horn button/horn ring springs and washers and contact plates for the optional banjo/chrome spoke steering wheel (same wheel as Dodge/Desoto/Chrysler) (I believe that the springs and contacts are the same as the regular steering wheel - I would be interested in a complete standard steering wheel assembly if need be); - Passenger door window regulator assembly, including window channels, window frame, etc (or a complete door) same on 1937 and 1938 Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, and '37-'39 Plymouth convertible coupes with one piece glass (no vent window). - Windshield wiper arms, blades and blade guide rods that attach to windshield frame bracket, or detailed photos and measurements of same (all 1937-1938 convertibles are the same). - Interior sun visors and rods/mounts. - Pattern of the windshield header trim panel (where sun visors mount) or detailed photos of what it looks like. Please send me a private message with any leads or details, or reply directly to this thread. Thanks!
21. Thanks for the photo! That helps me a lot. Looks like I indeed have a Desoto head on this coupe (I also noticed it says "Silver Dome" cast in raised letters on it). Is there any advantage to running this head? What's the correct color for the engine? Silver? Also, I have the book titled "Dodge Brothers Six (Code DL) Instruction Book" : is this both the owner's manual and the service manual, or is there a separate service manual that I should try to find?
22. I think you're right on the silver rings. I found some brochures listed on eBay and that's what they look like. Must be a similar silver to the engine color I guess.
23. To further this little topic, I dug up the owner's manual for the car yesterday, and I noticed that they have 2 coupes listed in the front pages: the business coupe, and the two passenger coupe. I guess this is technically the two passenger coupe (which explains the "TPC" on the body number plate). I thought that was interesting information. I suppose I'll just call it a rumble seat (RS) coupe then, because that's less confusing.
24. I found the Ditzler chips on Autocolorlobrary. It looks like the truck is "Suburban Blue", but the wheels cold be "20th Century Red" or "Atlanta Orange". It's hard to tell. I'm not sure how to get a spray can of this paint mixed locally. I know one of the local paint supply places here won't sell anything but waterborne stuff and they threw out any paint recipes that were older than 10 years old a few years ago. Fun times!
25. I am looking for the correct paint color code to get some paint mixed to repaint the wheels on a 1938 Dodge 1.5 Ton single rear wheel truck (I believe it's an RE-31). The truck still has its original paint, which is dark blue and the wheels are some sort of red, which is mostly worn off, surface rusted and faded. I'm replacing some tires soon, so I would like to paint them the proper color while everything is apart. Also, I have seen some trucks with the outer wheel lock rings painted silver, or black, or is it more correct to have the lock ring the same color as the wheels? I'm hoping someone with more knowledge on this could point me in the right direction. Rej
