  1. Nothing very exciting for me other than my first date with my wife I was in a 1991 Quad 442 W-41. It would not start and had her get out and help me push start it. After it started I said I was sorry about that, she said that she only drover older cars with lots of problems so she was use to it. We now have been married for 21 years.
  2. Not sure this is the right place to ask the question. I joined a couple months back and did not get my pin number. I tried the "I forgot my pin number" but it never sent me an email. When I registered for the Auburn show I called Pat Buckley and he got it for me so I could register. For some reason I did not write it down. I can call again but hate to call if I am just doing something wrong myself. Thanks
  3. You were in my neck of the woods. I live about 12 miles from Rose-Hulman
  4. I hate to say it but I can't really get active at this point in life. Kids, work, and everything else.... The few car shows I get to go to I am on vacation and want the freedom of doing what I want when I want. This is yet another reason I will never complain about what points or award my car got or didn't get. The judges are most of the time on their vacation also and just enjoy what they are doing. I do understand the need for younger people to get involved though. I will be 47 soon and will likely take retirement before I can get very active in car clubs.
  5. I agree with the above about sitting in on the judging seminar at one of the events. I am a new member of the club and the Auburn show was my first one. I am not that big on the judging side of things and awards but decided to sit in on the judging seminar. All my experience in the past with having cars judged was with the OCA, Oldsmobile club, and theirs is far less than good. The AACA judging program is actually very well setup and makes me a little more interested.
  6. I understand the deductions, Just wondering my best option out of what I posted. Or maybe there is another option I am unaware of.
  7. Radials were not an option for my car from the factory. I was not meaning to sound like that. Just that the white wall options available today are not even close to original in a bias ply tire. I chose to go with a radial because it was the closest whitewall option. To me a correct whitewall is more important than the style of tire.
  8. I find that in the modern era it is the unusual stuff that gets restored more then the desirable stuff of the day. From about the early 90s and on, it seams as if the stuff of the day that was unusual had many examples saved and preserved in their original condition with low miles. Like I mentioned earlier, There is a huge following for the Chevette now but how many Corvettes are being restored from the same mid 70's to mid 80's era.
  9. I made it home last night. I made it all the way to Auburn on one tank of gas so assumed I would make it home on one tank of gas. I was fighting the wind so I should have been paying more attention. I ran out of gas at the exact mile marker my house is lined up with. The house is a mile from I-70 but luckily I had 2 gallons of gas in the bed that got me the 3 more miles to the gas station.
  10. I will say, I had a GREAT time at Auburn! So many wonderful cars there. Looking forward to next year!
  11. First let me start by saying this is not a big deal to me and just curious what is best from a judging or national award standpoint. I am not big on awards and points things but has my curiosity. I just love building cars to the most original I can and not worried about points but I have a question about tires. I was at Auburn and thought I understood that radials automatically disqualify a car from a national award? Is this correct? I very well could have misunderstood that. My 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire had the 15 inch wheel option with a 6.00-15 tires size and a 1 inch whitewall. See pictures below for the correct tires but over 50 years old. These set flat from the 70's till 2015 and has cut the outer layer of the sidewall from the rim setting on them for decades. They do hold air though. There are no bias ply tires made or reproduced that I can find in this size with less than a 2 5/8 whitewall. That is way to wide and would look funny on my car. Blackwall is not correct and I feel also looks funny on these cars but those are available. There is a 3/4 whitewall available in a radial and is what I chose to go with because the whitewall is more important to me than any of the other things about the tire. As for judging or awards, what is best out of the following options? .bias ply tire with a 2 5/8 white wall that is way to wide .bias ply blackwall when it should be whitewall .radial with a close to correct 3/4 whitewall .put on the bad 50 year old tires just for the show and only drive from trailer to show field Sadly, the standard 13 inch wheel has the same problems with finding correct tires.
  12. Would I, No. Will someone at some point, Yes! Did ANYONE ever think a Chevette would be worth something? Did ANYONE ever think a Chevette would get restored? Earlier this year I found that there is a huge Chevette following. People are getting together and putting funds together to get windshields made and available for them. People travel to South America to collect parts for them and ship back to the US. If this is happening to Chevetts then it will happen for the newer stuff. I drove a really nice Chevette for about 3 months earlier this year and I got more comments and reactions to that car than I ever got from my 1970 Rallye 350 i had for 24 years.
  13. I am headed out at 6:00 AM tomorrow and should be there by 10:00 AM.
  14. I have had a long week trying to get a trailer ready. I will not start driving my Jetfire on long trips till next year so I am trailering it. My cousin brought the trailer and the tires were all bad and found a broken leaf spring then broke a wheel stud taking the tires off. Spent Tuesday and Wednesday dealing with that and now this morning went to unload his racecar but he has the doors locked and didn't give me the keys, lol. At least it is trailer troubles and at home with those troubles. It is pouring rain anyway so I will have to wait till later to load up. Headed out at 6:00 AM tomorrow.
  15. Also look at the Olds 215 for one. It is the same for both engines. I just sold my last one about a month ago but there are guys on the facebook group that will have them.
  16. I did not read all the responses but from what you have posted you are not looking for a full blown restoration down to every nut and bolt or it would come all the way apart. If this is the case then go to the large local car shows and find quality cars there. Even if it is not cars you like, just look at the quality of work done to it. Ask the owners who done the work if you like what you see. You will find out that there are MANY one man show restorers out there that do exceptional work and can work with your vision of a final product. They may not be a Wings Auto Art or a Level One quality but they will not be a $150,000 trailer queen restoration either. Check out some of these local guys and see some of there other work or what they are working on now. Whatever you do DO NOT take it to a collision shop or a shop that does any collision work.
  17. Be safe. Not sure the direction you are going but if you are on I-70 near Brazil Indiana and find you need help, look me up. I will message you my number. I bet you will be fine but it never hurts to have a source for an area if you need it.
  18. My grandfather said that for a few years they lived a block from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and him and his friends knew secret ways to get in the track. He said they would sneak in and watch the race from the infield. I guess there was some kind of bridge that went over the track on the back stretch and watched from that bridge one time.
  19. If you look up Moller Road in Indianapolis, all the land around that entire road. My great grandmother's maiden name was Moller and they named the road after her. Her family and my Great Grandfather's family immigrated here from Denmark together. My Grandfather is the little boy on the left and the one on the right is my uncle. When they moved they come to Brazil/Poland Indiana area and started a new store out in the country. It ran till sometime in the 50's I believe. Closed when my Great Grandparents passed away. The foundation to the old store in the country is still there. If not for the eminent domain then I would not be here because my grandfather would not have met my grandmother. Funny how that works
  20. Does anyone know what the car is in the gas station picture? My grandfather does not remember that car and thought it may be a customers car.
  21. This gas station picture was taken in the late 30's and the car picture was in 36 when the car was new. This station was in Indianapolis. The city forced them to sell the gas station and the 1000 acre farm on eminent domain sometime back then. Sadly, this car did not make it to my generation. My Grandfather does not remember when his dad let it go but did say they took it from Indianapolis to California and back and to the Smoky Mountains in the early 40's. My Grandfather is 91 and remembers this car and tells stories about it like it was yesterday.
  22. Very nice car! Not much available out there in this condition in this price range. I would think it would sell soon.
  23. I am a hard core Oldsmobile guy and usually attend all Oldsmobile shows but I am seriously looking forward to this show. I will get there Friday morning.
  24. I am looking for an Oldsmobile Jetfire display/sign from 1962. This You Tube is what I am looking for. Any help in locating one would be great. If I can even find just the front of one would be great, I could make the rest if I had to.
  25. My grandmother is 91 and never waists anything. She even cuts the tube of toothpaste open when it is empty to get the last little bit out of the inside. She waists nothing and saves everything. She would be a hoarder but my aunts and uncles remove boxes of stuff when she is not looking. She blames the missing stuff on my Grandfather who is 92 and can't carry the stuff, lol. I am so thankful to still have them and that they are still living on their own. They have so much knowledge of the depression era. My Grandfather's family was fairly well off for the depression. They bought a 1936 Oldsmobile new and owned a gas station in Indianapolis that was just busy enough to them going. This allows me to hear the middle class side and the hardship side of the era.
