  1. RM41 Another great suggestion. Is this a great site or what? Thanks Wayne
  2. Hello Gentlemen Do you have a success story of the repair of a cracked steering wheel like this one? I know these wheels can be replaced as a repo part, but at this time they are a little pricey for me. The wheel is solid but the appearance bothers me. Thanks for any suggestions. 3. I am the third owner of my 1941 Buick Super 51. I bought the car from the second owner in Mankato Minnesota who owned it 35 years. I asked if he knew anything about the first owner but all he could remember was he bought the car from a college student attending the University of Minnesota in Mankato. The young mans Grandmother was the real owner who bought it new and let the grandson take it to college. This would have been around 1976. What this is leading up to is: if anyone my have a memory or know a person who was a student at UM Mankato around 1976 who drove a black '41 Buick I would love to hear from you. Just hoping against hope this might lead to information on the original owner. Thanks for reading. Wayne Fresno, Ca.

    Oil ??

I know the question about what is the best oil for these straight 8 Buicks has been addressed many many times on this forum. However I ran the "search forum" for previous post and I didn't get any old post to come up. So I'll ask again. What oil are you using in your straight eight Buick? I have used 10-30W detergent and just now changed to 10-30W non detergent. Should I change it out of there fast or wait for my next oil change? I am in a hot climate 107F today with mild winters. I usually take the car on a 25-35 mile drive each week. Thanks for the help. Sorry to bother for an old topic. Maybe I don't understand how to search previous post. Wayne 1941 Buick Super 51
  5. Thank Guys All great ideas to fix my problem. Will work on it. Wayne
  6. Hello Pre War Buick owners. I seem to have about 5 - 6" of play in my steering. I installed new Bias ply tires and had an alignment done a few hundred miles back. The steering seems the same as before. Is this amount of play normal? If it isn't what can I do to correct the problem? Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  7. Yes. My Buick is a 1941 Built in Oct. 1940. I was born in '45. My folks owned a 1941 two door fast back Buick when I was about 5 and I've wanted a '41 for 55 years. Finally got this one last year. It's original just turned 25K miles and lots of fun. Pictures guys, we love pictures! Wayne 1941 Buick Super 51
  8. Went to a great car show today and while waiting in the entry line at idle (about 20 minutes) my Buick started to smoke bad (grey) as in oil burning. It didn't have the problem on the way home about 15 miles of stop and go. :smoke was little to none This is the first time my car has done this. I know this usually means rings but as stated it didn't smoke during normal driving. Opinions. Thanks Buy the way there were about 300 cars at the show. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  9. Thanks Anderson for the post and pictures. Beautiful Buick. Gotta love those '41s:D Enjoy! Wayne Fresno, Ca. 1941 Super 51 original with 24,900 miles.
  10. Kevin. I am with you on wanting to know the history of my car, a 1941 Buick which has had only three owners since new counting two family members as one. The seller I bought from only knew my car had been a gift from the prior owners grandmother who bought it new. I would love to know where. I think it has always been a Minnesota car. Wayne Fresno, Ca.
  11. Thanks. I'll give it a shot. Wayne
  12. My fuel / oil gauge on my 1941 Buick seems to have a burned out light bulb. I looked in my owner's manual and did not see any "how to" replace bulb information. Can some one here help me out? Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  13. Yes California requires both plates. It is possible to get YOM plates for DMV reg. however I am looking to display only when at small local car shows etc. Since I have only one plate and use my personalized plates on the car. (My Grandson calls me TA TA so. it has to be 41 4 TA TA. Thanks for your opinion. Wayne
  14. Just looking for a general opinion here if I should have this plate professionally restored or leave it as is. Jeff K. of Colma "BUICK 22" gave me the plate (thanks again Jeff) A friend at work blasted the rusted background and repainted the black leaving the original 1941 yellow lettering. This plate is not DMV registered, and is just for fun. I will not be driving the car with this plate. What do you think? Thanks Wayne Super 51
  15. Congrats on the find:) Beautiful Buick. They are soooo much fun:D Keep the photos coming. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  16. My son in law likes to use Red Line SI-1 as a fuel additive in his modern cars. He gave me a bottle to try. I will try it in my 2010 4 cyl. and I am thinking of using some in my '41 with dual carbs. I have been having some missing at idle and low speeds and just wanted to get an opinion here as: Should I use this in my 71 year old engine or not? (The carbs. were rebuilt less than a year ago) Your feed back is appreciated. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  17. Grant I am pleased to report I was able to adjust the latch and the door now has a much tighter fit Thanks very much! Wayne
  18. These photos are of my rear passenger door on a 1941 Buick Super 51 there is a gap between the rear panel and the door. A restorer did not think the car has been in an accident. The rubber seal is gone on most of that side of the door but remains on top and on the post side. I am aware I can purchase the seal by the foot for replacement. My questions are: Is an adjustment of the latch / hinge possible to make this a tighter fit? Could it be because of the partial rubber seal? or both? Also what should I use to hold the new seal in place? The gap in the photo appears wider than in reality and appears to have a seal in place, it does not. Thanks for any help. Wayne 1941 Super
  19. Duesenburg owners / Anyone The movie "The gay divorcee" with Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire made in 1934 has Ginger Rogers driving what I think is a Duesenburg. A '34? Am I correct? Thanks Wayne 1941 Buick
  20. Can someone give me an idea of shipping cost (i.e. a full size pre war car from West coast of U.S. to Italy?) I could contact a shipper but I am not at that stage of interest just yet. I'm thinking $3000 - $4,000. Close or way off? Any one know about taxes and import fees on arrival? Just want a ball park idea from the forum. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  21. I have to show my ignorance. I was reading the post regarding value of the '46 Pontiac and another post referring to HPOF original status. Because I am the 3rd owner of a completely original '41 Buick (Two prior owners 35 years each) . I would like to know what HPOF stands for. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  22. New York New York made around 1976 Two great scenes with a '41 Buick In one of the scenes when Robert DeNiro Picks up Liza Minnelli she ask "what this?" he says "It's a Buick". She says "what?" he says "A Buick! a 1941 Buick" "get in" It was the best part of the movie, I loved it:) Wayne 1941 Super 51
  23. I drive my '41 once or twice a week. Usually the run is 25-30 miles. I've been keeping 1/4 or less in the tank. The only gas available here contains 10% ethanol. I do use the Marine STA-BIL additive. Should I keep more or does it matter? (or should I keep the tank full because gas is a great investment:D) $4.36 per gallon yesterday. Your feed back is appreciated. Wayne '41 Super 51
