  1. To All who offered helpful advice here on my engine missing problem. I just got my car back from the shop today. I have only had a chance to drive on city streets to get home but seems to be running well. My mechanic replaced the rotor and cap he said it was "chewed up" pretty badly. Also had some gaskets replaced while in the shop as it was dripping lots of oil. I know it will still drip some but should be much improved. Also had sludge cleaned from the pan while it was off. (Lots) I am anxious to get the car on the highway for a good run to see how it's doing. The fuel filter checked out clean so I think I am okay on the contaminated fuel tank. It sure is good to see her back at home tonight. Thanks again for the help. Wayne 1941 Buick Super
  2. I am sure this has been covered many times on this great forum but I'm just trying to get some ideas here. I have a 1941 Buick. I am actually the 4th owner. 3rd owner bought from the family who bought it new but he is an older person and did not have any information on the city where the car was purchased in 1941. I am pretty sure it has always been a Minnesota car. I called DMV Minnesota but they told me they only go back 7 years.(seemed odd to me) & finding the original owner from 1941 was impossible. I bought the car out of Mankato, MN. I think it could have been a somewhat local car. Any ideas here? I just think it would be fun to know where this car was purchased when new. Thanks Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50
  3. Thanks so much Grant. I will look for it and give it a try. Always great advice here, and fun to hear from Buick lovers "around" the world. Wayne B. 1941 Buick Fresno, Ca.
  4. Larry Thanks, sure appreciate the advice. Nice "Buick":) Wayne B. Fresno, Ca
  5. Frank Thanks I have used that Brand which I think was also a cleaner. I will give the non clean version a shot. As you I seldom wash the car. ( worry about possible leaks). Wayne B. Fresno, Ca.
  6. Just wondering what wax and or cleaner is most recommended here for original paint. My 1941 Buick is original Black and has cleaned up pretty well. When I wax it I do get a lot of rub off of the old paint. Suggestions? Thanks Wayne B. 1941 Super 50
  7. I am still on a learning curve of responding here.(may have posted twice) Thanks to all who offered suggestions and shared their knowledge with me on the "missing" problem I am having. I have the car with my trusted mechanic since Friday and hope to hear from him tomorrow. I will pass on several of your suggestions. Hope this gets it taken care of. I want to drive it this week:) Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super
  8. Thanks Larry. Beautiful Buick you have there. About four years ago an older man maybe in his 90's came to my work (cemetery) to visit family graves. He was driving a 41 Conv. I believe a Super not sure now. He was the original owner he told me he bought it when he graduated from Stanford as a present to himself. It was dark blue and I think a tan top. Fantastic condition. He lived in Oakland, Ca. He gave me a ride. He was still very proud of that Buick. and rightly so. We love our "Buicks" Wayne 1941 Super 50 Fresno, Ca
  9. Thanks Joe Great advice. Will pick up a tender and work on getting the cut off switch installed. Wayne B. Fresno, Ca.
  10. Sorry about the second subject add on. I thought I was starting a new Thread but somehow did not. Guess it went like bills in Congress, lots of extras tied to the main subject. I am still in a learning curve here about posting but I sure enjoy the forum. Thanks Wayne B.
  11. Just installed a new 6 volt Delco (the car is not here so now I forgot full name etc.) The dealer is a battery only place and said this was more powerful than the one which would be considered stock. Installed in a 1941 Buick straight 8 I will probably only drive this car 40 miles per week all on one trip. My question is: Is this enough driving to keep the battery charged based on the generator working as it should, or do I need to keep a trickle charger in place. MY car is garaged. The low temp in the garage during winter is probably no lower than 50 F. I know this forum has some great advice for me on this subject. Thanks in advance. Wayne B 1941 Buick Super 50
  12. Always liked the look of the grill work on that era DeSoto. Massive looking! Total Americana There is still a DeSoto cab company in San Francisco, but of course they now use Camrys and an assortment of foreign make cars, along with a few Escapes and Chrysler Vans. Have fun and good luck. Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50
  13. :)That's great. I think I may have that too. My garage just smells like an "Old Buick" Thanks Wayne
  14. Hello Old Car Lovers I had this all ready to go and lost it (some where) in the Pre War Buick forum. I will try again here. My 1941 Buick has an odor inside. No particular smell. Just smells old. (hey 70 years it could happen right) I have done some things like a fan 24/7 with the windows down while the car was in the garage. Baking soda and vinegar (not together) with the windows up. Today I placed a small room air filter inside with the windows up. I'll try this for a day or so. It seems a lot better and is not over whelming but I would like to know if any of you have a suggestion. The interior is original and in excellent condition. Maybe this is just the smell old foam and cotton upholstery? Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50
  15. Hey Buick lovers The feed back here is always educational. I have gained a lot of good info on my old Buick. The question I have is regarding interior odor. Not any particular smell just kind of old ( hey the car is 70) I am thinking the car sat for years with the windows shut. The interior is in excellent condition. Maybe just the original foam and cotton in the seats? Hard to tell what it is. I placed an electric air filter just today in the floor while the car is in the garage windows closed. Had a fan with the windows down and baking soda in the floor as well as vinegar in a bowl. Not all these at the same time. It is getting better but is still there. Is this just the old car smell " get used to it":( or can I do more). It is not overwhelming but would like an improvement if possible. Thanks for the expertise Wayne B 1941 Buick Super 50

    My '41

Thanks I found a photo of my Mom my sister and me with "the Buick" taken Easter Sunday 1950 (I was 5) My Dad had to work so we went to see him. He took the photo. Wayne B. 1941 Buick
  17. Thanks Not my house. I just took some photos in a "period correct" neighborhood for fun. I liked how it looks so much I am using it for my screen saver. These old cars are so much fun! Wayne B.
  18. Love this site Just a follow up on the detergent vs non detergent question I previously posted. Thanks for all the advice I sure do appreciate it. Another oil question. My pressure runs about 50 at highway speeds (50-55 mph for me) looks about 30 or a little under at idle. I think this is good right? Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50

    My '41

Wayne B. Fresno, Ca. :DI have been having so much fun on the Pre-War site I decided to take a look here. I'm 65 and have wanted a 1941 Buick since my Dad sold our family '41 when I was 11 years old. I finally got one. (same color but a sedan vs 2 door) Oh well it's the right year. Just want to share a few photos with my fellow Buick lovers. I bought this car in July. It had only an amazing 23,400 original miles and only two owners, I am # 3. I've had a few things to work through, but it is a fun driver and in fantastic original condition. F.Y.I the "TA TA" is what my Grand son calls me. ha. He is 3 and will someday get this Buick. Love looking at all these Buicks. Enjoy:)
  20. I have seen several post regarding detergent oil vs non detergent. My Buick had less than 24K original miles when I got it in August. I had the oil changed (which was black as coal) and did not know I should use non detergent oil. The shop changed the oil with PMO 30 wt. which I understand is detergent. I have driven the car about 300 miles since. I will change it this week if the opinion is to do so. I am asking what would you do? and have I done possible damage to the engine in so few miles? Thanks for all the help here, glad I can be part of the questions Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50
  21. Hello All I have seen a number of questions here regarding VIN and Model number information. I was checking my VIN plate on the firewall and even though I know my car is a 1941 model year. The VIN plate reads. 13940909:confused: I know the 1 is for Flint MI. I thought the next number was for the year then the month of manufacture. Any help is appreciated. The body plate reads 1941 with color codes etc. on it. Thanks. I sure I am learning a lot on this Forum. Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50
  22. Hey Buick lovers. I know there was a post a few days back regarding the door seals melting and how hard it is to get the old stuff off. I have that problem with one of my back doors on my '41 Super sedan. I will be replacing it as soon as I can $ But I am just wondering why just the one door and not all the doors and what makes the rubber melt as if it has been exposed to high heat? My car is totally original. Any answers or comments are appreciate. Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 50 Fresno, Ca.
  23. : Thanks for the good advice. I do have all original engine. I plan to keep my max. speed in the under 60 mph range. Wayne Fresno, Ca.
  24. Thanks again you are a huge help here for me as I am new to this. I'm Sure having fun. I will save this info. Wayne
  25. Thank you. I know my best mpg will be about 55 mph ( slow lane) which is just fine for me. Wayne
