  3. Thanks Ben Always appreciate your responses. Just curious, are you close to Joplin? Wayne
  4. Have to say the luggage rack on the Buicks in Australia #3 & #6 make me wonder if you can "Take it with you". (joking aside. I know it was probably for transport of flowers.) Wayne
  5. Anyone know what this pipe is? It appears un-used and is labeled "1941 Buick". It measures 23 1/2" long, 1 3/8" diameter pipe and 2 1/8" diameter (flange ?) Must be part of the exhaust system. I don't know what part and neither did the muffler shop. It was in the trunk when I got the car. Wayne 1941 Super
  6. Mike This may be a double post answer to you. My first one seems to have gone missing. A cold winter night here is about +28 F. "Miss Super" is in the garage which usually stays about 50. Summers are HOT there are days when it is 100 in the garage. Humidity is fairly low. I usually have less than a 1/2 tank of gas and drive her at least once a week. Wayne
  7. Mike I know you are right about the pipe. I plan to have it replaced with stainless and moved a safe distance from the tank. Wayne
  8. I just had a call from the prior owner. He replaced the tank in the early 80's Thanks for the response. Wayne
  9. I posted another thread regarding MPG with the 248 which led me to another question regarding my fuel tank. (Thanks Bernie) I've attached the best pictures I can get and I ask your opinion. Does this look like an original gas tank? I've left a message for the previous owner but I haven't heard back from him. (He may be a snow bird who won't be back to Minnesota for a while). The fill tube and the connection at the tank just doesn't look 72 years old to me. I'm also wondering if the exhaust pipe is in the correct location. (bottom photo). Thanks for the help Wayne 1941 Super
  10. Thanks to all who responded. I think about 12 MPG is going to be it. Wayne
  11. I am sure this has been discussed before but I didn't find it with a search. How many miles per gallon do you get with your 248 c.i. engine? (Just looking for an average) I am guessing I get about 12 or 13. I have compound carbs. drive about 30% stop & go and 70% highway at 55 - 60 mile per hour. I could fill up and do the math, but I have never filled the tank and don't trust it to sit full in the garage. I usually keep only 5 or 6 gallons in the tank. The fuel gauge floats from empty to 1/2 so trying to figure from the gauge is no help Wayne 1941 Super 51
  12. Looking to replace this part. Not sure of the description. I think it is part of the rear fender gravel guard. I just want to replace the thin part not the whole guard. Once I know what to call it I will check with Bob's to see if they have it. ( any other suggestions to find the part?) Any of you replaced this peace? Is it a simple job? (I need simple ). Thanks for the help Wayne 1941 Super 51 ("Miss Super")
  13. Seems to me it is about supply and demand as stated above. The Chinese and Indians are not riding bicycles any more. ( I hear they like Buicks:)) Wayne
  14. A follow up on my original post Thanks to all for the responses Had the oil changed today and as it turns out I did have a screen and it was very plugged. Mechanic first said he did not find one, then his helper came in with the little rascal in his hand. Even with the good photo posted here, the screen was much smaller than I expected. An extra THANK YOU to Straight Eight for posting the page from the manual and to Dynaflash8 for the advice to throw that filter as far as I could. Wayne 1941 Super 51 A survivor with 26,700 miles

    Gas Prices

Harry HT and Grant I am just curious. Is a percentage of your fuel tax used to fund National Health Care? I've heard some countries use part of their fuel tax to fund their "free" health care system. If so, I was thinking If I add the monthly cost of my private health insurance premium to my gasoline cost and divide it using the current $4.19 per gallon the per gallon cost is just about the same as Harry's. Gas Prices

Central Valley of California. Cheapest $3.89 Quick stop (cash price). Brand name cash price this a.m. $4.19 Credit $4.29. More than a 30 cent jump in less than 10 days. 10 cents higher than yesterday. Are we headed for $5.29 on the West coast this summer? Wayne
  17. John I am in the same situation of not knowing. I am due for an oil change as well so plan to check it out then. I am just curious how long you have owned you '39. Good luck to you. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  18. Thanks Gentlemen I was thinking in the range of 3,000 RPM at 55 - 60 mph. Seems that number came to mind from a prior post. Wayne B.
  19. Wow. What a great looking car. Congrats to you for owning such a survivor. I am just wondering how many miles it has on the clock? I love these old Buicks and this forum is just plain fun. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  20. Re: 248 C.I. Straight eight. My question. How many R M P is this beast turning at 55-60 Miles per hours? I know this has been discussed many times but when I do a search using RPM nothing comes up for me. If you can stand the repetition I hope you will help me out. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  21. Tom Neat photo. Now I know what my Buick looks like as a police car & yes I remember car 54. Thanks
  22. Ed Did you bring up Craigs list Los Angeles? Seems I have seen two there in the last month or so. Good luck Wayne B. 1941 Buick Super 51
