  1. I want to change the oil bath air filter to some type of paper replacement. ( Car has compound carbs) I'm sure this has been covered many times but I don't have much luck when I do searches for this subject. Help please. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  2. I have a 1941 Super 51. All four door thresholds (not sure this is the correct term) have the word BUICK with black background on the metal strip. I remember from my childhood (1950's) our 1941 Buick 2 Door had the carriage logo & words "Body By Fisher" where mine has"BUICK". I've owned this car almost 3 years and hadn't noticed this before. Duh... I think the body was built by Fisher but where is it indicated? My car was built in Flint in October of 1940 for the 1941 model year. Just asking.. Wayne
  3. Very informative. I enjoyed the history of the Fisher Co. Thanks Wayne
  4. Hey Buick lovers Just curious to know what year the first all steel Buick was built. (I am thinking about 1936) How about other American makes ? Wayne 1941 Super 51
  5. My '41 with 27K original miles is doing a lot of smoking (Grey = oil) when stopped in traffic:( When I had the tune up a while back the compression check was good as per my mechanic. ( I don't know the numbers). I don't see smoke while city driving or at highway speeds ( 50-55 mph) The car does not seem to have excessive oil consumption I drive the car three times a month for about 25 miles each time. Should I take the "ole girl" for a good highway run of about 80 miles to see if the smoke problem improves? Suggestions appreciated. Wayne
  6. Wojtek Welcome. I sure hope you will post some photos when you have time. We love photos. Congratulations on your find. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  7. I plan to drive mine about 15 miles at least once a week this winter (Mild here no snow no salt). I don't know if the commercial building my car is now stored in has a mouse problem or not so I am asking about keeping bounce and mothballs inside the car . It must be a solution as it was mentioned a few times here. Also do mice avoid a car that is driven weekly or do they just enjoy the ride? Thanks Wayne 1941 Buick Super 51
  8. Dave Your garage looks terrific. The only problem I see is that little British fellow needs to move out so the Buick can have his spot. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  9. Thanks to all of you who responded. I have decided to leave the paint as is. Wayne
  10. Kostyantyn It's great to hear from people all over the world who share an interest in these "old Buicks". I would like to see a photo of the front end of that Buick. It appears to have the body of the 37 - 38 with the front end looking a little like a Packard. I am wondering if this was exported from Flint with a different front end for Europe or ? Any one know? It's a great looking car. I hope you can get what you need soon. Wayne 1941 Super 51 Original at 27K miles
  11. Thanks guys for the opinions. Maybe the trunk is a repaint. It is the only area of the car that has these bubbles. Although the color seems to be a perfect match to the body. I will post a photo when I can. DavidAU I like your suggestions. Plan to follow up on both. Wayne
  12. Hello Gentlemen The paint on my trunk lid has tiny bubbles all over which appear to have been there a long time. (I would include a close up photo but I don't have access to the car for a few days) I believe the paint to be original. There are a couple of spots on the roof that have primer showing. I'm thinking of having just the trunk lid painted, but not sure this is a good idea on an all original car. The color is black and I figure it will never be a perfect match. I would like to get rid of the bubbles but don't want a mis match job. Advice please. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  13. Bud & Mike Thanks for the feed back. No ethanol free fuel to be had locally here. Just hope we are not headed for the 15% vs. current 10% Wayne 1941 Super 51
  14. Bud Re: mileage I get 12 or 13 mpg. I rarely exceed 60 mph, usually keep it at a comfortable 50 - 55. I have dual carbs as well. I read somewhere that during the WW2 gas rationing many owners bypassed one of the carbs. I thought about checking the idea out further as the engine does run rich and I don't need the extra kick. Any one know about disconnecting one carb? (pros / cons) Nice car Bud. Gotta love those '41s
  15. Lots of great looking Buick's. I especially enjoyed the red '48 Thanks for posting.
  16. Andrew In case you are not aware of it there is an oil screen in the oil line to the rocker arm where it enters the head. There is an excellent photo (if you search "rocker arm oil screen") the info and posted photo should come up. It has to be pulled out with something like a needle nose pliers I was glad I found out about it because mine was very clogged. As for the oil. I don't really know. I currently I am using 30 wt. detergent. It seems okay but this is a very hot climate with mild winters. I have used 30 wt. none detergent in the past. My mechanic says detergent is fine. So who knows? Good luck you have a great looking Buick
  17. I am just wondering if any of you know when Buick stopped using horse hair as fill in the upholstery? My '41 has all original upholstery and I am pretty sure it must contain horse hair. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  18. Great looking cars. Would love to see the front of that blue one:) Wayne
  19. Try www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars Good luck Wayne
  20. Thanks Danny No mechanic here. Any chance someone has a photo. Thought I could see what you are talking about but I really can't figure it out. Any photo of carb. set up will help. Thanks Wayne
  21. Thanks guys. Looks like a starter switch will do it. Danny they are Stromberg and were both rebuilt about 22 months ago.
  22. Hey Buick lovers I have a 248 C.I. with dual carbs. If this Buick doesn't start with the first slow down push on the accelerator it gets flooded. It will start on the next couple tries but I have to wait about 10 minutes between each, if the first try fails. I drive this car at least once a week about 20 miles. The temp in the garage is about 70 / 75 degrees F. Common? What can I do about it? Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51
  23. Ben's post regarding manifold gaskets and Mark's response got me wondering what shape my exhaust manifold is in. Well when I take a look I can't tell. How would I know if it where cracked (visual, noise, fumes)? And if it is cracked (which I don't think it is). what harm will it do? When I drive I always have a couple windows open for fresh air. No mechanic here, so I am just asking. Thanks Wayne 1941 Super 51 27,000 original miles
  24. I watched an old movie today "Pat & Mike" made I think about 1952. Tracy & Hepburn. In one scene I think in New York there were a couple Cadillac taxis. Looked to be 1947 or 48s. I didn't know taxi companies used Cadillacs back then. Always enjoy the old cars in these classic movies. Wayne 1941 Super 51
  25. Not a Northener (Not even Northern California) but I am with Bill in Texas. I've been driving all winter. It hit 96 degrees here on Monday. I take "Miss Super" out in the mornings only. Her black paint gets hot after 12 Wayne 1941 Buick Super 51
