Tom & Cindy have always been very helpful and friendly in my dealings with them. I met them at Hershey a couple of times and they were a pleasure to chat with.
-
I was able to get a good one from Myers.

Those louvers are a pain in the &%(%^ to strip... What kind of paint gun did you get? I got one of those LPHV (I think that's how it goes) and it works pretty nice.
-
Very nice! I'll have to check out that shade of blue.

Here are some photos and dimensions of the battery box. It's pretty simple with the exception of the stiffening bulge stamped into forward and aft sides. The cover was lined on the inside with thin wood. Dimensions are (L x W x D) 14" x 7 & 7/8" x 10". Thickness is 0.050"

I'm not familiar with these marine boxes but if they're available in dimensions close to the bracket spacing it would sure be easier than fabbing up a sheet metal box.
-
I should be able to get those box measurements this weekend. I'll draw something up.

Yup, engine splash shields. The bumped up area goes over the aft end of front spring perch so the pans are face up in your photo. You have the battery box brackets which would be harder to duplicate than the box itself. I can get you measurements for the battery box.

Progress on my Morris Mini Pickup
MikeC5 replied to Richard1's topic in Our Cars & Restoration Projects
Not far to go and really looking nice. I'm curious why you decided to go with a submerged fuel pump. Will it be accessible without dropping the tank? -
Ray, I'm sorry about your uncle. The battery box is just bent sheetmetal, perhaps a bit thicker gage than fenders/body. It is bolted on with brackets, one of which is shown in the attached photo. I thought I'd taken a few photos of the repaired box but I can't locate them. When it warms up a few tens of degrees I'll get some better photos.

Congrats! The car looks blessedly unmolested and complete! The two two (U.S.) parts suppliers I've used and like are Myers Early Dodge and Romar (http://www.myersearlydodge.com/catalog.htm and http://www.romardb.com/). Here is a (poor) photo of the battery box on my '25 touring car, front floorboard removed. You can see the transmission/driveshaft connection at top of photo. It also has a cover (not shown).

Hot Rodding the Gemmer Steering Box
MikeC5 replied to idrjoe_sandiego's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
That's what I was initially hoping to do but the brass is pretty thin at the narrow side of eccentric and the spiral groove depth makes it worse. Unfortunately I didn't take any good photos of the bushing when I last had it apart. I have a spare I'll tear down and then get some good pics for discussion. -
If you have a Harbor Freight tool store near you, they sell disposable in line filters and dessicant dryers for reasonable prices. Combined with the water separator I already have on the compressor and these I get decent 'paint air'. It's not a bad idea to drain the compressor tank of water before you start. In humid climates there can be quite a bit of water in there.

Hot Rodding the Gemmer Steering Box
MikeC5 replied to idrjoe_sandiego's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
The early box is quite a bit different. There doesn't seem to be any way to seal the sector shaft eccentric bushing. I suppose I could slow it down if I carefully applied some RTV at the end of the spiral groove... I'll have to try the steam oil. -
Hot Rodding the Gemmer Steering Box

Has anyone figured out a way to get the older DB steering gear boxes to stop leaking? There is a spiral groove in the brass eccentric bushing that provides a perfect leak path right out to the arm. Is there a lube thick enough that it won't leak? -
You have an impressive memory Dave.

Thanks Dave. I'm making a note of it.

Thanks Dave. It's so hard to tell from a color chip....

I would also be interested in the color code for Ken's blue...

DB trucks at Barrett Jackson Scottsdale 2015
MikeC5 replied to stakeside's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
I really like that PEZ truck! -
It looks similar to a Dodge Brothers multi-disc clutch. This thread mentions various ways of un-sticking one of them. Good luck. http://forums.aaca.org/f143/1922-dodge-touring-sticky-clutch-202528.html

I know I'd read some where before that skinny tires were supposed to be great for mud & snow and I don't think they had limited slip back then (I suppose it could have a welded diff though). I must admit I'm still a little skeptical about the oil. The hinged oil filler cap (flap) on my '25 Dodge looks like it would leak quite a bit of oil out if turned upside down for several seconds. So maybe they did add some oil unless that was the last shoot for the day.

Oops, wrong link... CA got the right one.

I've had good luck just using the vacuum tank. If you haven't started it in a week or two it helps to prime the tank but once it gets running it does do the job. I use a clear filter as described above too.
