  2. There’s actually more to that story. I’d been running yachts for 23 years and kept getting Ass****s for owners. I figured I was a good enough of one of those so decided to buy my own yacht. We found this old Feadship in Tampa which the interior caught fire while the owner was welding on a new bottom. We were basically buying a “Hull & Machinery as it was completely gutted by the fire. It’s about what we could afford so we made an offer that was refused. I sweetened the deal by tossing in a 1937 Chris Craft 17’ runabout that I’d just restored. Its original name was Flame, so it all came together nicely. The seller got insulted cuz he thought we were making fun of him burning the boat!

  5. You guys are thinking CA, this is in NH and a depressed part of NH to boot. The environmental issues aren’t as strict there.
  6. A rental shop in my area was selling 4’ LED shop lights for $5 each. Seems the MA government was trying to get people to convert. I bought 30 of them to swap out in my shop and my friends shop. They work great with no flickering. Best $150 I ever spent!

  9. I spent over 45 years on yachts in salt water. I’ve always used Flitz for harder jobs but always used NeverDull on chrome and stainless on an every day basis. One yacht I ran for several years had all brass and bronze fittings outside and would get salt spray every day. Things went green in two days! I started to polish every thing with Flitz then NeverDull till it glimmered. Using gloves to keep hand oils off, I’d wipe the part clean with alcohol then brush on J&J acrylic floor wax, minimum brushing in one direction. This treatment would last a month in constant salt spray. When it started to show signs of corrosion, I’d wipe it with ammonia to get the floor wax off and repeat the process. I can imagine how long it would last on a well cared for Brass car!
  10. Henry Ford was a very frugal man especially when it came to the production of his automobiles. He had parts delivered in crates built to his specifications so that the crates could be disassembled and the boards used as floor boards and seats. Then he’d use the saw dust and end cuts from recutting the boards for heat and charcoal production. He also collected and melted the nails to be reused in the car production. I’d be willing to bet he used which ever black paint he could source at the best price. “You can have your car any color as long as it’s black!”

  12. I’m restoring a 1931 Cadillac removable trunk. The interior has a cloth type covering which looks like a cloth backed wallpaper with a small repetitive pattern. I need to replace this but can’t find a source for the material. Has anyone here restored this type of trunk? I’d like to know what material you used. I’ve tried wallpaper companies but their patterns are for walls and are much too big. I’ve searched the web but mostly find steamer trunk restorations where the authors feel that the raw wood is a better interior. If you’ve done this before, let me know where you found and how you attached this interior covering. Thanks. Wayne yachtflame@yahoo.com
  13. Of my small collection, My 1930 LaSalle sedan is the most reliable. One of the members here tuned my carb and distributer so well that I have no worries about getting in it and going anywhere, anytime. I used it more this summer then in the past 10 years! That’s not saying it’s sorted properly. I keep removing things to sell to people when they need a part quicker then I can make one for them, so it’s never 100%. But it starts, stops and makes my face sore from all the smiling! Thank you Ed!!!!!!!

  15. I have a set of four 17” wheels wheels with nice white wall tires. Old but show no wear. I guess someone mounted the new tires then sold the car before mounting the wheels. Must be a Caddie V-12 out there rolling on hubs! 😳 Any way, if you need a set of garage rollers or a set of decent wire wheels, these are in Western MA near Springfield.   17. Zephyr, I’m hoping the car will just need a good washing and then a polish. I was just wondering about if there were any scratches. I remember hearing a few “old timers” lamenting the loss of the old laquers because you could patch areas if needed. Not knowing about paint, I’m just looking for info at this point. I took my MK V saloon down to bare metal, leaded and bondod it then primed it myself. Beyond that, I won’t touch color paint as I’m pretty bad at final paint. Heck, when I walk past the paint department at Home Depot, all the cans start running! 🙄

  19. George, I am a member of the Jag-lovers group. I have been using them to help with info on my ‘49 Jag MK V. A great bunch of people there! And no, I haven’t ordered the certificate yet.
