  1. It was quite unnerving!!!!!
  2. Mike, I wish I would have thought of that!!
  3. :(I imagine the noise it made as it broke was sickening.
  4. The burning is your generator heating up. The voltage regulator needs some attention. It sounds like it stuck in charge mode. That happened to mine going 70mph down the Interstate. My first clue of a problem was; I saw a steam of sparks out of the back of the car . My generator was just before bursting into flames as we stopped the car.
  5. on my Olds, For the crazing (stress cracks) I rubbed armour-all into the cracks. It would last a week or two. Then I would re-apply.
  6. For the trim fasteners; Get some plastic containers and label accordingly
  7. Spray some penetrating oil on the bolts a day or two before you try to take them off. The last time I tried to put bumpers back on a re-painted car i vowed to have a transmission jack to help me do it. Instead of the jack. I took it to a mechanic shop and they took them off and remounted them for a fee
  8. I know that '55 was the first year for 7 lb psi caps. Before were 3 lb psi caps
  9. I put mine in storage Saturday. I'll take a look and see what mine says.........
  10. Oh , yeah! Very nice!! I'm remembering; Dad's '35 Ford had a hand throttle and hand choke on the dash. Dad's '36 Buick had a hand throttle on the dash. But, the choke was automatic. ( and worked well, too) Dad's '52 Chevrolet had a hand choke. But, only the pedal for the throttle. And, learned something this weekend; A '51 Packard has a Buick starter switch on the carburetor. And then upon a closer inspection; I notice a Delco Remy voltage regulator and Delco Remy starter relay, on the Packard
  11. Thanks! I looked at your pictures. You've a great car there!!
  12. Maybe Buick was unhappy with the paint finish?
  13. I've had my Buick 42 years. I've never had trouble from the Dynaflow. About ten years ago I had the Dynaflow rebuilt just because it was approaching 50 years old. I've never had any trouble since then either.
  14. Find a GOOD transmission shop and ask them if they know Dynaflow transmissions. If they don't ask them to recommend one. You're probably needing to rebuild the Dynaflow. Rebuild kits a re available. You might get advice tho change to a different later model transmission. To change will be a major undertaking that will require changing the torque tube drive shaft and the rear axle and suspension. Dynaflows are very dependable and strong transmissions. They just need a rebuild every 50 years or so.
  15. ]I found the PPG paint formula that was used to create the paint for my Dover White; # Base Color Parts 1 DMD684 Basecoat White 1282.6 2 DMD642 Yellow Oxide 27.4 3DMD615 Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) 3.7 4DMD648 Weak Black 20.7
  16. Ascribing to the to the theory ; " what aint broke don't need fixing" . Maybe we should just leave the wiring alone............
  17. Mine is Dover White When we had it painted ten years ago they matched with a spectra graph
  18. Here;s another thread http://forums.aaca.org/f162/replacing-wiring-harnesses-321313.html
  19. Mine too, the gas gauge has quit. I've never had any electrical issues. Even the battery holds a charge from week to week, with out a master cut off switch.
  20. I just read this; Post #17 and onward relates to your question http://forums.aaca.org/f162/new-battery-dead-overnight-6volt-321096.html#post991283
  21. The '56 jack looks to be much safer than the '55 bumper jack. I'm missing the lugwrench, too.
