  1. My advice was rotella 30w It's been brought to my attention that Shell has lowered the ZDDP in 30w Rotella It seems that one needs to research before every oil change
  2. You'll not find type 'A' anywhere anymore Dexron III or Dexron IV is what I use
  3. Over the years I've had both types with no noticeable difference.
  4. :cool:Be Glad !! No Smoke is good. (nasty habit) We rebuilt the Roadmaster's engine in 1975 and it's been smoking ever since...
  5. The rubber part of the gas line might have cracks that allow air to leak IN , causing a low fuel delivery. In any event you are probably due to replace the rubber part of the fuel line. And a filter, too A new (rebuilt) fuel pump is certainly in order. Just for your information; Your car has an early '55 engine (the valve covers tell the tale) The fuel pump suppliers are going to ask if you want an early (multiple screws on top) fuel pump or late (single screw on top) fuel pump. Over the years I've had one and then the other on mine. Either one will work fine. Other than the fuel pump, the difference between early and late is the oil filler cap(s). Early (as yours is) has one oil filler cap on the camshaft valley cover. Late (as mine is) has two oil filler caps. One each on the valve covers. I've noticed something else unusual about you your car; is the power steering pump. The other fellows here I'm sure can tell us more, But, your pump looks more like what I've seen on '54 and '53 Buicks I'm sure Then and Now is very good Other good suppliers are CARS old Buick Parts Kanter Steele Rubber Bob's Auto Memorabilia SMS Fabrics (interiors) Waldren Exhaust
  6. Of course you're right Willie Thanks for those corrections. I was mistaken on the cap My radiator cap is 13 psi I was just wrong about the bearing That's what happens when I try to go on memory.
  7. I understand that the original A/C 'heavy duty' generator had an two belt pulley and Also, the A/C jobs have a 13psi radiator cap in place of the standard 7psi cap Last month , i had my generator rebuilt. The rebuilders put in sealed bearings. EDIT as Willie has pointed out I had some things wrong in my post. I have edited it . Thanks Willie for pointing that out
  8. Did you have to upgrade the charging system ? from the old generator ?
  9. I use Valvoline 30w and add STP Oil treatment with ZDDP Or I use Shell Rotella 30w with the ZDDP already in it (it's for diesel engines) EDIT: Rotella single grades no longer have ZDDP
  10. Long answer; 1955 and earlier have double action lever shocks 1956 and later have single action telescoping shocks Short answer; Rear shocks on '56 are different from rear shocks on '55
  11. Thanks. If they're not rusted out, I'm interested. I appreciate you looking...
  12. Do you have a spare set of spark plug covers? I need a pair
  13. Nice photos Harry. Thanks for those
  14. That's the way mine did. It worked fine for years... Suddenly it wouldn't stay closed. It took me a while to narrow it down to those small springs.
  15. there are two springs on the latch. Here is one. I replaced the springs
  16. I sent that before i was through; The bumpers along the mustache bar are important for adjusting the closed height. Along with the bayonet bolt on the upper latch. A large flat head screw driver will extend and retract the adjustment of the bayonet bolt. Extending the bolt will raise the hood height. Retracting it will lower the closed height. The clearance between the fenders and hood are adjusted by moving the lower latch to the left or right. A lot of trial and error is in order to find the exact position
  17. I had the same problem . I replaced the small springs in the lower latch assembly. I found some springs at a hardware store. Carefully mark the location of the lower latch before removing it. Also, i used a LOT of white lithium grease on all the moving parts. The height of the rubber stops along the back of the mustache bar are very im
  18. It's got a couple of extra doo-dads next to the reverse lights, too.....
  19. That's the one!! . All the linkage seems to be there , too....
  20. It should continue to improve as you drive it more. The shoes are conforming to the shape of the drum. Find your self a nice big empty parking lot and do some hard stops (on the verge of lock up , but try to not let them lock). You should see more improvement with each application of the brakes.
  21. Nice ! Sent from my BlackBerry 9370 using Tapatalk
