If your car came from outside Alabama , they might want ti inspect it. Also, they'll want to inspect your vintage tag, if another tag with the same number (of a different year) has already been registered, the may decline to let you use it.
If worse comes to worst; You can pull the box it self out from underneath , to get to the latch. Replacement boxes are avalaible , i have a replacement box on mine
