  1. You might inquire with Whitmer Coach in New Holand,Pa they offer 2 blacks for there carriage trade. Pg 40 of there catalogue717-656 3411 Have seen on some early steamers that what appeared to be black was originally a very dark green Better to talk to a supplier of automotive body shop products than one like Napa where paint is a sideline. Talk to a good body shop in your area
  2. On difficult tops where the glue was still holding we used a heart gun to loosen it then scrape off. I would always clean the top of old glue mostly using thinner. There is a special vinyl top glue that we used and sprayed it on. Some glues will become sticky when exposed to summer heat,( hot day direct sun on black material) have seen this often on covered trunks. S Start in the middle and move to the sides when reinstalling tricky part is when you come to the rear corners as you lay the top down do it slowly and with help working out air bubbles. Good luck

  8. I have also used the West System with great success. I also like the Smith's as well, It seems to penetrate into the wood better than West.

  14. Yes they are available. Measuring across the top of the threads inside the cap is 2.420 and they are 16 tpi
  15. Good job, and a memory your son won't forget. Had similar car related experiences with my kids and they still talk about them. Oh, and they age well too!

  17. I can already feel the heat coming but here goes. I seem to recall that the trim from a VW Bug of the late 60's solved this problem for me. Takes a bit of tweeking . Good luck

  21. Sorry about that the OD of the cap at the teeth is 5", the inner at the threads is approx 3 3/16 and the thread count is 12 Thanks for pointing that out
