  1. Ryan, Are we talking about a Lincoln here? If so, there is an "L" shaped bar that you have to push toward the tire and then push it towards the the front of the car ; then carefully disengage the front and rear clips that hook onto the fender. --Larry
  2. Thanks for the reply. The problem is that there is very little room , if any; to get a thin screwdriver up in there. I thought someone had made tool for this part removal. I don't want to break the pins--- Larry
  3. I should have said" '42-'48 Lincoln or Continental"-- Larry
  4. Anyone out there ever removed the hood name plate (26H-16606) from a '42- Lincoln or Continental? What tool and how did you get in without breaking off the pins of the name plate?
  5. If you are one of those guys or gals that sat back on Friday & Sat. and decided not to attend the meet, you missed something. Many good parts( NOS , used and new) , "paper" (ads , owners manuals, wall art etc. Many deals made on Sat. The vender did not have to haul home and the car restorer or maintaining his car did not have to pay shipping ( if the part was there) . Next year? Larry

  11. Just talking to Alan Whelihan yesterday, and he said he still has the special fender washers that the Lincolns used. His # is 1-301-874-5464. His ad is in the 2015-2016 Membership directory
  12. Don,t forget the light switch sends power to a TOGGLE switch which determines if you want to use headlights or running lights( or fog lights) . If you have this switch, it is located to the left of the steering column. A rather heavy duty looking switch.--Larry
  13. I have the complete breaker board which has the circuit breaker and ignition resistors mounted removed from my car and sitting on my work bench . I ground off the rivets , removed cage. I cleaned the contacts and wire brushed the whole unit. I see no reason this will not work again. The resistors are available from venders. The cage can be reinstalled using very small nuts, bolts; and lock washers. Be sure and TAG EVERY WIRE! Take photos--- Larry
  14. Ralphnof49, This will be a long answer, you have 2 questions. There are 2- 6 volt feeds to the light switch. I checked my '47-'48 Lincoln headlight schematic with a large magnifying glass and came to this conclusion--- The circuit breaker, P/N 16H-11624-A; used from 1941 to 1948; has 3 posts ,one of which is for connections only. This is stamped "B" on the 1st pole, "H" on the 2nd pole and "A" on the 3rd pole. The letters can only be seen when the wires are removed. This is viewed looking right at the breaker under the dash. The 1st post is for connections only. On this post is the battery feed from the ignition switch with a wire going to the "B" post on the voltage regulator. This post is not protected by a pr. of con- tacts. The 2nd post, stamped "H" has 1 wire going to the rt. frt. connection on the light switch as viewed looking down on the top of the switch. This is protected by a pr. of contacts. The 3rd post. stamped "A" (accessories) It has 4 wires, the most im- portant goes to the 2nd lft. connection on the light switch, the next wire goes to the rear brake light switch, the 3rd wire goes to rt. & lft. door lght. switches. The 4th wire goes to the clock power and clock light . All of this protected by a pr. of contacts. Now the remaining light switch wires. The rt. side 2nd and 3rd connections on the switch are bridged together and feed dash lights, rear tail lights, and a spare connector ( unused ?) The 3rd connection on the left side of switch feeds the . frt. parking lights and another wire feeds the light for the ignition key hole.I hope this helps, any questions "E" mail me at Zephyr38 @ Verizon.net or call me at 1-410-756-5310.----Larry
  15. Hello Lee, Thanks for your offer, but I think I have a source for the caps, but I'll keep you in mind if this falls through. Larry
  16. Need for '48 LC Coupe__ I need the 4 stainless steel trim caps for both doors at window frame. Body parts List Aug.'46 lists them as: Cap, Door hinge pillar,RH-06H-5720974 RH , O6H-5720975LH And 06H-5720972 RH, 06H-0973 LH-Cap door lock pillar If no one has these off of a parts car, at least a tracing of 1 door ,front &back posted on this site. Thank you-- Larry Butcher 410-756-5310, "E" zephyr38@verizon.net
  17. When I restored my '38 conv .coupe, I found a lot of wood- plywood top and bottom shelfing be- hind front seat ,also wood header over windshield , rear top bow, inside of side windows support posts. rear trunk floor( covered with trunk lining material) Now I'am working on a '48 LC Coupe and have found the dome light support is wood and so far the rear arm rests on each side are made of wood and covered with leather. Larry
  18. I have spare front & rear springs removed from a parts car many years ago.........but the problem is they are my only spares and right now I have decided to keep my car , for a while I guess. We have at least 2 good old spring shops in this area, Baltimore, MD. A shop that does truck work should be able to make you a leaf, It may not have the "grease groove",but if the right arch , bushing eyes; it should work----Larry
  19. Thanks everyone who replied to my question, and especially 19tom40 ; you hit it right on. I remember when I removed the old harness, this very little fragile wire just disintegrated. L.E.B.
  20. Thanks for your reply, I'll continue to search for the paperwork, but your explanation does make sense
  21. I messed up again, you'll a magnifying glass to see the detail! L.E.B.
  22. While removing old wiring harness from the horns on my '48 LC Coupe, I noticed a very fine wire wrapped around some fabric. I remember somewhere reading in my 45 years of paper that this was resistence drain to prevent shock? I'am enclosing a copy of 1 page of "Lincoln/Mercury Service News," Vol1-#13-- Nov. 1947. It is attached to horn relay. Any explanations?
  23. Bernie, "E" mail me at zephyr38@verizon.net I can't "E" mail you, your spelling or something
  24. My '38 conv. coupe did not have a vacuum tank and was an original car, probably a 2 owner car. My '42 LC cabriolet had 2 vacuum tanks, one under each fender. Each one long and narrow and about 1000 cubic ". The 42 LC used vac. antenna, vac. wipers, and vac. windows. The top was 2 electric motors. On my '48 LC, one tank under the driver's side fender, rather round in shape( whats left of it). Just vac. wipers and antenna. The '41 Zephyrs and LCs, don't know
  25. Thanks to 19tom40 and others , I'll will be working on this and will post pics! Larry
