The 55er
Call me a skeptic. Al Capone died on January 25, 1947.
Marty Roth
If despite his death, Mae was still handling Al's "business" and assets, maybe she bought it through his business account?
DrumBob
I'm skeptical too. I'd want to see paperwork, and those Mae Dury crooked nameplates are awful.
The 55er
Heck, I'm skeptical the car even won a beautiful trophy at a car show but you might want to look inside that cavernous trunk, you never know what might be in there. Look for one of these.
Malo48
Hoo boy, that article. I consider myself to be well-versed in the history of organized crime in Chicago and I've never, ever seen the name Mae Dury mentioned, even in the most tenuous of ways (and believe me, people like to fabricate stories about Capone all the time, especially when it comes to buildings). That said, basic Google searching shows that Mae Dury owned a popular super club in Duck Creek WI, sold it in the early '60s and retired to Gaastra MI, where her house was featured in an article in 1970. No idea when she died.

LOL I don't think the car to give to impress was an entry level Plymouth either. None of this undermines the Mae Drury connection, but the Capone link seems tenuous at best. plymouthcranbrook
And I don’t think the idea of being associated with some heretofore unknown mob mole warrants the premium price this Plymouth is listed for. Custom interior and home made name plate notwithstanding. 1
1957Birdman
I think the potential mob connection actually detracts from the amount someone is willing to pay. Of course, the frumpy styling doesn't help its value, except for Mopar fans maybe. There is a reason why the Chevy and Ford outsold Plymouth.
