Edwin The Kid
This was a bit of an impulse buy but here we are! I own the majority of a 1934 straight 8 and 3 speed transmission. Oops! My plans with the engine are to either sell all the parts, or build the engine for making a replica of the Buick Shafer 8 race car. I won't be using some of the parts like the exhaust manifolds or carburetor, so if anyone needs some parts let me know! I will be asking some technical questions on this thread later as I dig into the engine and parts.

Robert Winters
Do you have a Marvel carburetor ?
Edwin The Kid
Marvel carbs are sold to Mario(32buick67), who also helped identify the engine as a series 60. Exhaust manifolds are for sale if anyone is interested, as I will be building headers if I ever get this engine running!
Robert Winters
Hi Edwin, What is the shape of these manifolds , are the level and smooth, any welds ? and how much are you looking for. Can you send pictures.
nzcarnerd
Something which would need to be confirmed - as far as I know the 1934 Series 60 engine has the same cylinder bore as the new-for-1934 Series 40 engine. The Series 60 phaeton here in NZ has a later Series 40 manifold set up with a down draft carb. Whether all of the ports are an exact match I don't know. The only photo I have is from the wrong side but the carb can be seen. I think it is from a military Ford V8. It was fitted many years ago (50 years or more??) by the mechanic who was maintaining the car at that time.
Frank Wilkie
Question, what model of a Oil filter is on this motor? I can see AC but what comes after that?
Robert Engle
The oil filter looks like the repro design that has a modern spin filter inside. The out cannister is designed to look like the original filter. Bob Engle
Edwin The Kid
Parts are slightly more organized now, but more importantly taking up less space! As soon as I get gas for my welder I'll be making a cart so i can roll the block around the shop. Exhaust is in decent shape, the center section has been repaired at some point. One of many It's one of my extra blocks for my '66 Corsa! Here's a pic of my good block I'm building to be a turbocharged engine, as the car is a factory turbo car.
Edwin The Kid
Pistons and rods: pistons look like they may have scoring from the cylinder. I don't know very much about babbit bearings but they seem okay? I'll ask my engine professor what he thinks as well. What is the purpose of the 4th ring groove on the piston, is it just an additional oil control ring?

I think that idea was mostly overwith by the late 30s. Oil consumption was high in those days no matter what, but if I am not mistaken the consensus later on was that the fourth ring was doing more harm than good.
