alsancle
Looking at this a second time I think I actually like the colors and the top. Usually vinyl delete is my choice. Also, I'm reminded that I like the hidden headlights which are only 68 & 69. But I believe Matt or one of you guys mentioned 68 got the big motor, so then I guess the one to have is a 68 vinyl delete in a good color.
Matt Harwood
If all it needs is a battery, why not spend the $100 and get it done? Exactly how much BS does this guy expect us to swallow? And are we certain that's an original interior? I recently bought myself a '67 Eldo but I regretted it almost instantly. Turns out I really do want a '68, black, no vinyl top. One just sold at RM for about $40,000 so I guess that's the one everyone else wants, too. I'd probably settle for dark blue or charcoal gray or some other dark color. I bought this one just because I had the fever, it was close enough to drive home, it really is a nice car, and I thought it would be close enough to what I wanted. Spent a small fortune servicing it, just in case the way it drove wasn't because of how it was built. Nope, the 429 just feels overmatched and fragile compared to the 472. It's just not the same car. I am often an opportunity buyer, but in this case I'm a very specific buyer. A just reward for not following my own advice, I guess.

I never follow my own advice but I expect everyone else to listen to me. Black on black 68 is the way to go. For 16K this is the one you missed unless you want to pay an extra 30k for the vinyl delete. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/fl17/fort-lauderdale/lots/r0157-1968-cadillac-eldorado/562798

Just for clarification: The front-wheel-drive Eldorados came out for the 1967 model year. The 1967 and 1968 models have hidden headlights. The 1969 and 1970 models are very similar but have exposed headlights. And I agree with Matt, that the authenticity of the upholstery is questionable. The golden brown paint and the vinyl roof look good to my eyes. Edited February 3, 2021 by John_S_in_Penna (see edit history) 1

Rarest of the rare 68 is vinyl top delete with headrest bucket seats. I totally agree about the black.
TerryB
By putting a battery in it then you will know the other dozen or so things that need attention, better to just say it needs a battery. 1
John_S_in_Penna
"Just needs a battery" is like the common claim, "Air Conditioning just needs a charge!' 2
JamesR
Really one of the best looking American cars of the 1960's in my humble opinion. Somehow they designed the roof and body to give a four-seater car almost a two-seater coupe look. I also hate the words, "It only needs a battery." That's almost as believable as, "I haven't tried to start it, but it should run without a problem," and "Your state will issue a title."
