Driving light

I have a sealed beam driving light that I bought awhile ago to use on my 35 Buick. I accidentally had the battery charger on 12 volt to test it and blew the bulb. I located a replacement but my question is were sealed beams available in 35? It's in an Appelton housing about 5" diameter. Thanks. Greg.

What does the rest of the assembly look like? Is there a reflector with a bulb socket or just a sealed beam in the light housing? Sealed beam lights showed up around 1939 so if it has a sealed beam bulb it might have been installed sometime later. 6V sealed beam bulbs exist, but if it's not a headlight bulb it might be a little tougher to source. I'm sorry, I don't know where to look for a 6V 5-inch sealed beam light, maybe a motorcycle or tractor supply shop?

1939 for 1940 models in headlights. Individual bulbs and reflectors hung around longer in things like driving lights.

 

IMHO a sealed beam driving light is post-1940 and likely postwar. On the other hand, someone could have stuffed a sealed beam bulb in a much older housing.

I do have three (3) "GUIDE" correct GM Accessory units for a 1934/1935 - era Buick,

one has a "PASSING" lens with bulb and an excellent "GUIDE" center,

one has a "DRIVING" lens with bulb and an excellent "GUIDE" center ,

The 3rd one is missing the lens but has a very nice reflector,

the other two (above) have clouded reflectors.

I also have a pair of new flat glass lenses which were cut to fit these units as spares.

All are used and show wear, and one has a repairable dent - but very repairable.

 

I will add photos and come up with a price if anyone is interested

I may also have spare correct "GUIDE" decals to be applied to a lens

Just took these pics with cellphone, so may not be best quality.

Each group of 3 pics is one unit:

IMG_1318, 1319, 1320 - GUIDE DRIVING LAMP" is moulded into lens - clouded reflector

IMG_1321, 1322, 1323 - GUIDE PASSING LAMP" is moulded into lens - clouded reflector - 3 very repairable dents

IMG_1324, 1325, 1326 Lens missing and bulb broken, but very good reflector

 

I think $500 plus shipping is reasonable for the 3 units and the 2 flat glasses.

These units with the original Guide lenses were bought many years ago as backup to the perfect units which were on my (former) AACA Senior Grand National 1934 Buick, and I had substantially more than the $500 invested in them

I understand, but as I'm sure you know, correct originals are scarce, regardless of condition, 

Guide - GM, more rare than aftermarket,

and with DRIVING and/or PASSING LAMP made into the lens,

and with an excellent "GUIDE" in the center of the fluted lens,

that much more desireable?

 

What $ range are you looking for?
