SuperNova75
Anyone know how I could place my arm rest back on my door panel ?
joe_padavano
It appears that the plastic step for the screws in the arm rest has broken out - it appears that one of them is still under the head of the screw in the door in the first photo. If that's the case, you need a new arm rest. This is not uncommon with these cars and I believe repros are available.

54vicky
do not laugh but gorilla glue would probably work.a new one if available would probably need to be coloured to match.forgot to add the pieces that are missing plus screws will probably be laying in bottom of door when you remove the panel Edited March 30, 2019 by 54vicky (see edit history)

Glue will not work.

joe_padavano
Well, there's one thing you might want to try first. If you can find (or make) a washer that is just large enough to fit into the recess in the arm rest and catch whatever plastic is remaining at the bottom of the hole, that MIGHT last for a while. I doubt you'll find an existing washer of exactly the right dimensions, so you probably would need to file one down.

95Cardinal
Looks like some retailers are discounting the OER price, but it looks like it's going to cost close to $200 to replace both armrests. https://www.oerparts.com/shop/1978/chevrolet/nova/parts/interior-soft-goods/door-panels-components/armrests/ https://www.classicindustries.com/shop/1975/chevrolet/nova/parts/interior-soft-goods/door-panels-components/ https://restorationpartssource.com/store/Nova_1975_1979_Interior_and_Soft_Trim_Parts_Armrest_Parts.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyoHlBRCNARIsAFjKJ6Cv9GEYhBW_FasoptOib9u4KB0Q5GV350Nud86oNuQeJ0DWKXtv3P8aApImEALw_wcB#969875 https://www.ss396.com/nova/ICI-X75R.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyoHlBRCNARIsAFjKJ6CplUnrD53E6-3p9_e1QijUWnmR_EhZihT0cWeuM31qykOVJZ4ECfQaAtkLEALw_wcB If you don't care about originality, you might be able to use the earlier (68 to 74) style armrests, they are a lot less expensive. That would require some sort of close-out to cover the front "snorkel" attachment hole.

More to the point, the screws don't attach to the cardboard door panel; the pass through the door panel and screw into the metal of the inner door. Guest
Make sure your hinges and latches are lubed and adjusted correctly and then remind yourself and teach your passengers that the door closes easily and never needs to be slammed.
