50DeSoto15
Hello, Can anyone help me find the screw that holds down the ignition points on my 1950 DeSoto? The screw it had was stripped and I don't know what size I can use as a replacement. Thanks in advance. Edit: I lost the screw. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with the correct size. I'm going to check junkyards to see if they might have one. JFranklin
take the stripped one to the hardware or auto store and you should be able to match it up.
keiser31
Are you sure it is the screw that is stripped and not the plate it screws into?
keiser31
You can probably get one from these guys....https://www.wildcatmopars.com/
JACK M
Its easy to take the distributor out and pull that plate. (also make for easy installation of your new points and condenser) Then a trip to one of those hardware stores where they have lots of bins and drawers full small hardware. There is usually some one there to help you match a screw to your part. You will probably spend 19 cents or less. JACK M
Hope its not down in the distributor. Its probably just a plain old #6 screw.

That was my thought; it fell into the distributor. Don't they have enlarged heads?

JACK M
I guess I had forgotten about the enlarged head. Some people are accused of that as well. Maybe a plain number six screw with a washer glued to it. I suspect that 50DeS... figured it out by now. I have a box with a bunch of distributors in it that I rob parts from all the time. 50DeSoto15
Thank you to everyone for your replies. I was able to find the right part at Oreily's. The person on their tech line used to own a 1950 Desoto he said it was the "dorman 49810 Ignitn screw set". I also found a universal ignition point set with the following sizes: * 8-32 x 5/16 fillister head w/lock washer * 8-32 x 1/4 fillister head * 8-32 x 3/16 Fillister head * 8-32 x 5/32 Binding Head * 6-32 x 5/32 Fillister Head. Hope this helps anyone who might need them in the future.
