Fast Freddy
Hello, I own a 1950 Chrysler Imperial. It's all original. I tried to start it a few days ago and it just turns over and doesn't start. I put a new 6v battery, thinking it was the battery and it's not. I check the voltage on the battery and it reads 6.22 volts , I check the starter and it's getting the same 6.22 volt. When the vehicle is in neutral and the E brake is on there is a green blinking light on the dash. Well this light is not on also when I press on the break pedal the break lights do not come on. Is like I'm not getting power to half the vehicle. Any ideas?
Fast Freddy
I also checked this with a volt meter. Theres a wire coming from the starter to this ( relay?) And it has 6.22 volts aswell.
plymouthcranbrook
Have you checked the obvious things. Spark at the plugs, fuel at the carb? Timing? Must have these to start.
Fast Freddy
I have checked for spark and I'm getting spark. I have spray starting fluid on the carb and still no luck. I'm going to put some new plugs and wires tomorrow. What has me confused is that I'm not getting power to my accessories. Example the break light, the green blinking light on the dash that indicates that the E brake is in gauge. I have not checked the timing, I'm not sure how to check it Edited October 21, 2018 by Fast Freddy (see edit history)
61polara
The green blinking light on the dash is your turn signal indicator. The parking brake warning light is the light under the dash right above the parking brake.
Fast Freddy
Yes you are correct. Is like I'm not getting power inside the car.

Fast Freddy
Which one ? I dont see a fuse box or relays
Spinneyhill
After attempting to start it, are the plugs wet with fuel? If not, find out why it is not getting fuel. If they are, and you have spark, is it at the right time? Has the car sat for quite a while? If so, there may be white deposits in the carb, left when the fuel evaporated. 61polara
Your Chrysler has only one fuse, that is for the radio. Chrysler used only circuit breakers during those years.

JACK M
I think the circuit breakers are behind the drivers side kick panel or there abouts. (I know I said relay up there but I misspoke)
c49er
There are two CB's on the steering column support brace back side of the dash....on all the NewYorker, Imperial and Town and Country's for 1950..
Fast Freddy
Well gentleman I got her started, the vehicle is positive grounded, I have it negative ground when i replace the battery good thing it didn't mess anything up as far as I can notice., I had to turn the battery around and re polarize the voltage regulator. As soon as I did that she turned right on. I change the plugs and wires while I had some stuff apart. Thank ya'll for all the input.

c49er
Beautiful marbled steering wheel. A nice steering wheel free of cracks in any 1950-52 Chrysler is a rare thing to see!!!! Keep it covered in the hot sun or one day you will see a crack. Soon more. Nice rich color in the horn button too! Years ago I got into a money match to buy a wheel!
