BGerrells
Hey guys what's the best car to grab a engine out of to replace in my 1988 Reatta? The local junk yard here has a 3.8 out of 1990 Riviera. Would that work? Edited September 12, 2018 by BGerrells (see edit history)
handmedownreatta
i think the 1990 engine is different but someone will say for sure.i would try to find a whole riviera or similar car for the engine.
Barney Eaton
The 1988 - 1990 3800 V6 from any GM car will be the same basic engine.... there may be minor changes in location of sensors but if you have the '88 as a example (take photos before unhooking electrical and mechanical connections). I know a Reatta owner that got a 1990 Riviera engine with 62K miles for $250......there are a lot of 3800 engines out there and there is not a big demand for used ones....so if you find something you like, bargain for it.
SpecialEducation
Yeah, even a LeSabre or Park Avenue in that year range will do it.
padgett
What you want is a code "C" 3800 (is in the VIN). To be correct you need to use an '88 intake as that was the only year that had "3800" cast on the top and not on the engine cover (also unique).
