John_S_in_Penna
Since 1979 Regals aren't on most collectors' radar yet, I think a near-perfect low-mileage original would be a better buy---for maybe $5000 or so, if you could find one.

Finding the low miles 79 is tough one. I occasionally look for any 78 Regal coupe as I owned one as my first car. Just interest sake. I generally find baskets cases. This 79 for sale overall looks to be a good candidate for a restoration. I notice that this body as well as later models are sought after for low riders. Who knows, she just might sell! RivNut
On the V8Buick website, there's a forum dedicated to BBB V8 Regals. This one looks like a great candidate for a 455/THOO transplant.

That is key for a dude like me at the age of 17 making $2.10/hour as a maintenance man. Soon as I got her I put on Dunlop white letter tires. Looked good with the Buick rally wheels she came with. By pure coincidence, I found an ad for a nice 1979 Regal-- and the asking price is $4995. It appears to be in the Seattle, Washington area. Here is a picture and a copy of the ad: "This is the 1979 Buick regal to do an automatic 3.8 Liter, tires like new 61,800 miles one owner always garaged. Gold. Contact name: Robert. Call or text: (206) 963-0211." https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/1979-buick-regal/6530572928.html When he says "to do," I assume he means to hop up, not restore. But of course it would be much better preserved in its original state. Edited April 12, 2018 by John_S_in_Penna (see edit history)

White paint and white vinyl top. White interior with red dash/carpet. Buick rally wheels. For a kid at 17 it was the tops. Looked sharp and different than all the other cars in the school parking lot. It was one of the best vehicles I owned.
lancemb
Dang that nice one is where my sister lives. Would be a great excuse to visit if I was a buyer, which would be very tempting if it was a v8. Very nice car!
