mike6024
There are many of those ridiculous things for sale on my local Craigslist. 1929 Mercedes Gazelle on a Volkswagen chassis. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/5934158115.html http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/5953263898.html If you want you can look up Mercedes Gazelle on your local Craigslist and probably find an owner you could give it to. You are very generous. here's 4 more http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5953572856.html - front engine! http://stockton.craigslist.org/cto/5957063759.html http://monterey.craigslist.org/cto/5910407187.html http://modesto.craigslist.org/cto/5945953633.html Edited January 18, 2017 by mike6024 (see edit history)

mike6024
Yes there were a lot of them back then. I remember, I subscribed to Car and Driver, Car Craft magazine, and some others. Many kit cars advertised in the back commercial classified ads section. Make your Corvette "look like' a Ferrari. There was a 1930's Alfa Romeo VW kit car, saw one for sale recently. The most natural kit would be to make your VW Bug into a Porsche 356. Most the kit cars used VW bugs i think. these are very expensive, Intermechanica fiberglass Porscche body to put on a VW http://www.kitcarlist.com/porsche356.html
Frantz
Quote I collect and would like to see this go to a guy that has the car. FWIW sometimes its good for such things to go to the kid that wants the car, not the guy that has it. I started my automobile collection with vintage car advertisements and such things back in high school. I haven't quite gotten away from that with my back office desk having 4 currently (and I just got #5 in the mail). I always found it a fun way to own a piece of what I couldn't afford. Just my 2 cents.
padgett
Most kit cars in that period were either VW or Pinto based though some used Corvairs and a very few SBCs on a flopped Corvair transaxle
Restorer32
Your first drawing reminds me of a customer who brought us a pair of Model A front fenders to paint. He had labelled them Right and Left and asked us to be sure we replaced the labels so he would know how to reinstall them.

We did 3 frame up restorations for him. Nice guy, just the least mechanically minded fellow I ever met. He has long since gone to that great junk yard in the sky.
