32plywood
Hi new to this site but not new to Plymouth cars. I have had PA and PB cars and parts for many years. At this time I need a rumble seat lid to work on my PA convertible. not sure what all will fit the car but I think the 30U ---PA ---and the PB with the steel inner structure would work by moving the bumper stop pads from the bottom of the drip rails to the top side. The correct lid would be the one with wooden inner structure and it needs the rounded corners. any help or wisdom would be something I could also use at this time. Also if I had a list of the cars that may work would be a big help. Thanks for your help Allan

32plywood
well it's been over a year that I posted this want add. ---- still looking for a rumble seat lid that will work on a 31/32 PA coupe or convertible ---- the PA car used a wooden framed one ---but I could use a PB lid with a small amount of changes ----I do know that it will need to be from the coupe or convertible ---- the roadster lid has a different inner structure and the drip rails on the 1/4's would need to be changed --- some of the Chryslers and Desoto's would work also ----Any help on this issue would be nice ---the project has slowed to a crawl with out the lid. I have no plans to stop on this but a lid would brighten my day.-I would consider buying a parts car or Body to get one ----Thanks Allan
keiser31
I am not surprised about the length of time you have been looking. A door or trunk lid for a coupe are absolutely the toughest items to find. If it's any consolation, I have also been looking for one for you since you first posted the ad. There is a guy there who made his own and one for another guy. See what he would charge to make you one. The lids turned out VERY nice. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/31-plymouth-business-coupe.951308/page-7 Edited October 2, 2017 by keiser31 (see edit history)

Graham Goetze
Hi. I've just seen this posting now so hope you've found a lid. I'm just putting the finishing touches to a new wood frame for my lid. It's no easy task getting it perfect. Best of luck.

JamesLay
hi, i made my frame also, you should go ahead and make a frame. even if youfind a lid it will likely need new wood. when you get the frame done. you will find a way to skin it.i spent more time repairing a junk lid than it would have taken to make my own skin or have a hot rod shop skin your frame. the frame is the hard part. JamesLay
i thought coupes and convertable coupes had the all steel lids. only roadsters had the wood framed lids. i didnt know they would inner change.
32plywood
Thanks all well I did find a lid but needs wood and a bit of metal work along lower edge --- better than what I had when I posted ---at this time also working different angle to the issue. 32PB cars had all steel lids but all of the 31PA cars have wood in them --- also coupe and convertible coupe are same but the roadster has different drip rail and the older lid. I had lid off of a roadster and put it on would not close due to drip rail issues and lid construction . nice too see people working on Plymouth cars .
32plywood
Graham do you want to build a set of wood for me??? I would take a set in knocked down form I could fit and put it together --- the lower section of mine is bad . 32plywood
Dale Thanks my car is a 31PA convertible ---- the 31 coupe/convertible with wood inner will work or a 32 PB with steel inner will work if I change the lid stop location. This would be rumble lid not the deck lid. Thanks for any help Allan
Graham Goetze
Sad thing is that the guy who did my basic woodwork passed on a few months ago. He copied the original pieces very well but even so I've spent man hours fitting , planing ,measuring and re-fitting.
Graham Goetze
I'm trying to figure out the correct way to upholster the surrounding edges of the rumble seat lid - the bit that shows when the seat backrest is in place. I think that they are narrow strips that get nailed to the wood frame and also under the steel frame that goes between the wood and the lid edge. I'd appreciate any advice as I'd like to get this correct. Regards, Graham
Soupiov
For what it's worth this is the way the trim around the rumble seat looked on my 30-U coupe.
