The Beast of Turin Runs Again

Recommended Posts

This is the Fiat S76 land speed record car. It's a behemoth, nearly as tall as a man, with a four-cylinder engine displacing a staggering 28.5 liters. You could power plenty of motorcycle on what the S76 leaves behind the decimal. In 1911 that massive engine propelled the Fiat S76 to 135-mph, an extraordinary accomplishment at the time, and one that snatched the land speed record away from the Germans.

I do hope I am not overstepping any boundaries here. But the beast has been driven!!!! David G of oldmotor.com posted a video a few days ago.

I hope my attempt to post a link works?

Should take you to the full posting.

And, yes, that thing is incredible.

Thanks for that Wayne, I missed that one.

That thing turned the serene country side into a neighbor pissing noise fest.

And no mosquitos !!

Great video.

Thanks go out to Wayne Shelton for mentioning this MONSTER. Watch and hear the 28-litre (1729 c.i.) S76 Fiat run up the hill at Goodwood in a test-run with Duncan Pittaway behind the wheel and Lord March along for the ride in a brand new video at The Old Motor.

You can also link to all of the many posts and photos covering this project over the last four years that we have been following the story.

Since the Beast was built to set Land Speed Records, it's a true speed machine. Can you imagine driving this thing at 150MPH? I would think half that would be thrilling enough for me.

Hmmmm,,, Wonder if there is a chassis dyno they can

get it on for long enough to get a good reading of

Hp curve and torque,,

I got 84 Hp at 15 mph out of the black Stanley racer

then the water glass plugged and tubes leaked,,

Fun day,,,Ben
