Someone asked about my tray in Post #158. I thought I posted all the info about this package tray in Post #164. I had to dig thru this thread to find I was wrong. I purchased the tray from the same guy most of u bought from...Lee Sulis. At the time, he was the only guy advertising package trays in the Riview. For the record I am by no means bashing the work or end result of my package tray as u can read in Post #164. I shoulda bought mine right after my buddy bought his 2 from Lee. I procrastinated & when I finally pulled the trigger Lee had been forced to stop working due to health issues & he was trying to sell off the molds (or whatever they are called). He offered to sell me this tray of mine at a great price with the explaination of it being in poor condition. I still think its in GREAT shape comapared to my original. Rumor is Lee Sulis is back to making more?? Is that true?? If so & u are thinking about buying one dont hesitate. I saw the two my buddy bought & they look awesome. Oh, one of those trays is on that Rivi on the Jay Leno show. 9 hours ago, arnulfo de l.a. said: Beautiful! Good job david. Also like the temporary solution to the interior panels. RockinRiviDad
A couple pix from the show...one just outside & one inside. Kinda looks like the a$$ is riding lower huh? I’m not liking the tail dragger look. I hope it was from all the gear I was carrying in the trunk (canopy, 3 chairs, toolbox, backpack, radio, ice chest & skateboard haha) I was the only Riv...she brought some attention ?. That guy in the white hat has a 65 Riv. He LOVED to see another Riv at a show. He says he never sees them. He needed some parts that I had spares of. But then he disappeared when other fam & friends show up. I didn’t get his name or number...
RockinRiviDad
Just in case u guys didn’t believe this is a ‘budget build’… Here is a pic of my seat frame that deserves some attention but no $$ I should probably fab something up huh haha
RockinRiviDad
Horrible seat bottom pix right? Sorry…I know…I know…this is suppose to be family show…? Seats has to come back out in order for me to get after crumbling seam sealer, wire brushing rust, good cleaning with pre-paint prep & finally a bath of KBS (POR15 type stuff). RockinRiviDad
Sorry…I lied… Seats actually came out cuz I wanted to scrape the old sound deadener from under the rooftop (dirty work ?). Scraped, cleaned & rattle canned it with Rustoleum. Once I did all that I said ‘what the heck? May as well do the floors’…
Seafoam65
David, you're getting so much done so fast right now I would suggest calling the fire department because your hair is on fire! By the way, your engine compartment looks fantastic. It looks like your rear seat frames spent some time on the deck of the TITANIC!

RockinRiviDad
As usual...one step forward two steps back...at least I’m consistent haha EDIT: My EFI has a digital display showing the basics functions. In an effort to clean up my wiring mess I removed my aftermarket analog gauges. This is what I found when I pulled the temp sensor out of the block...?...Is it normal to have rust in the block?? Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Does my coolant look a little brown too? I’m at the 800-900 mile mark since my radiator repair ?. RockinRiviDad
Nobody knows if this rusty discovery is normal huh? Oh well...the plan is to change my coolant with every oil change. Hope u all had a good Father’s Day. Family was good to me ?...I got my walnut wood inserts from Robert @ Scanlan Classic Auto Veneer...SUPER nice guy...SUPER nice product...Apparently, there is two different shades to choose from. There a gold oak like shade & this darker brown shade that I absolutely LOVE... thx for the recommendation Robert...LOVE the “Proudly Made in the USA” touch ? I will call this my Mickey Mouse’d door panel revival haha...it took many steps to tear down, disassemble, clean, apply veneer, reassemble & reinstall panels...I did not fully rebuild my panels....I probably should...door cards need to be replaced but I reused them along with the old vinyl/carpet too...if anyone wants to donate a paint job for my car then I’ll redo these panels the right way ?...even after taking all the shortcuts that I took to get these panels nicer I still clocked TONS of hours...& I’m still not quite finished...but I’m liking the results...so far, so good

Seafoam65
David, since you had plenty of coolant in the car, this is rust that was not gotten out of the block when the engine was overhauled. On a car that sat as long as yours did, giant chunks of rust can form and it is difficult to get it all out.

Or is there some sort of additive that can help break it down before I drain & refill the system?
Seafoam65
I would buy a chemical flush and follow the directions and run the engine a long time with the flush in it, then follow the directions for flushing the system with clear water and refilling with coolant. fatbuick
I would buy and install a Tefba inline filter in the top hose to catch all the loose particles in the system too. Available in the US from www.tefba.com or google it. RockinRiviDad
Great ideas…thank guys… I just looked for the Tefba filter on YouTube. Coincidentally, I found a dude with a 63 Riv showing his approach using a window screen. Lots of rusty junk came out of his Nailhead…I hope mine isn’t that bad ? RockinRiviDad
2) Finally got a rebuilt “quicker” ratio steering box. My original box was 3-5/8 turns (lock to lock). It’s been said multiple times on this forum that if the number of turns on the input shaft (lock to lock) are 3 or less with the steering box on the workbench then the number of turns (lock to lock) will be less once the steering box is installed. My first hand experience proves that info is NOT true. Rebuilt steering box was 3 turns (lock to lock) on my workbench. Guess what it was once installed…yup…3 turns (lock to lock) ? But at least I don’t have a leak anymore…?
RockinRiviDad
3) I learned how to rebuild my rag joint (steering coupler). I really didn’t want to rebuild it. I tried to buy a complete one. But I found I had to use half of my old one to make the new one work. I will start a “how-to” thread on how I did it if someone is interested.
RockinRiviDad
4) When I pulled my steering column out I noticed there wasn’t anything keeping engine heat & road grime from finding its way thru my steering & into the passenger space. So I cut 1” foam into a donut shape & shoved it in there. A little wheel bearing grease helped steering shaft spin smoothly. I should’ve paint the column…I was lazy ?

RivNut
If you can find a non tilt '63 that's being parted out, you can pull this from the end of the steering column. Don't know why one wasn't used on the tilt column cars. TIP: In the tech tips section of the ROA website there are measured drawing for the foam piece as shown in one of the above posts. Reference to the "donut" I've pictured is also mentioned in the tech tip. Edited September 28, 2018 by RivNut (see edit history)
RockinRiviDad
6) I am scared to death about taking these window regulators apart & messing up the alignment. I read it’s a PITA to get them all back together correctly. So I did the bare minimum to pull the motors & had Steve rebuild them too. I also bought new mohair liner rubber liner for the front & rear window channel. Wing window rubber seems in good condition All my rollers are in good shape. None are broken. A little WD freed up some of the rollers that felt tight I plan to replace the plastic grommet where the side view mirror remote cable passes thru. Looks like a standard grommet from the parts store will work.

RivNut
That I do not know. The picture that I posted is from a 63 that was in a shop the same time mine was. The reference in the article says "non tilt" cars. But the tilt wheel was standard on the 65. I'm betting that it would be easier to find a non tilt LeSabre and pull one from it than trying to find a non tilt Riviera. Might be worth a look around. RivNut
In post #344, I made reference to the drawings for a foam plug writeup in the Tech Tips section of the ROA website. In that same post I made a reference to an addendum, although I didn't call it that, that also mentions the "donut" plug that is found in non tilt cars. I then went on to say it might be easier to find a non tilt column in a LeSabre or other lesser model than a Riviera from which to find one of these plugs.
